Vehicle Detail
In October 1976 I purchased from Dick’s Suzuki 2920 W Clearwater Ave, Kennewick, WA 99336 my one owner 1977 PE 250 B Suzuki, 2 cycle, 5 speed. I believe that it was the only one that they were able to get that first model year. It was a race bike made to compete in the ISDT International Six day Trial or Endro type races they were very popular in the rest of the World in particular Europe. Most were sold in Europe, and few in the States. This still is ongoing today. Check it out on line. It is a race over six days that involves on and off roads, over varied terrains, some at night up to 100 miles a day. In the US we were focusing on Motocross and Rodger De Coster might as well of sold me the screaming Yellow PE. By the way nostalgia Trials racing is now a growing thing in the US today. The B model was the Full Race and Solded as Competition Only. I had to pay the full price $1,450 no dickering, I think I may he have wangled the vintage key ring that comes with the Bike. A street TS Endro ran about $650. I was just out of College single, still living with my parents, had my first real job, and no business buying this bike. Back in town my friends all has full race off road big bore off road bikes, and my T/S 185 Suzuki Street Endro just did not cut it. As I had no way to get to the dirt sporting a 71 Firebird I needed to have a way to meet them there. I paid extra and before I picked it up had the shop add a different Lighting Coil better suited to the street, (still have the original box), an ignition key, Boyesen Powers Reed Valve, Mirrors, a bigger taillight that had a license plate holder, a horn and a Washington license. These were in addition to the cost of the bike. After and break-in I hit a straight piece of pavement and 90 miles per hour, I changed the front sprocket down one tooth (original sprocket Included). That’s what you see today other than a chain upgrade and new DOT approved aggressive rear tire (match to Original), and rear Buddy Pegs (so latter on my Wife could ride with me). It comes with and old school rack with a helmet lock that will unbolt as well. There are two strap-on handle bar bags (one contains bottle of Oil and Syringe for mixing in emergency, and one with Factory Tool Kit New Clutch lever, and plastic rain Jacket). I put on softer Handle Bar Grips (still have original unused). All this was bolt on and no holes were drilled except for two ¼ in in the rear fender. A side of Pride: All my friends put me down for a 250 rather than bigger, more macho machine. We went to a place we called the “Wall”. None of us had ever climbed it. We just used to watch each other and laugh as we all failed trying to climb it. I am not the rider they were, but with the lighter weight, power and nimbleness of the PE I made on the second try, sat atop the hill and gloated all day. Then I proved it a second time. Most eventually made over time after more money and experience, but the PE made me a proud hero for a while. In an off road drag race when you keep the front end down it would out run them till more CC’s event eventually ruled. The PE had lower end than the RM’s and immediate throttle response at any time. I never looked back and it is still the best overall ride I have ever had. The Bike has right at 2,500 original miles, and is in amazing condition. It has always been stored in shed or garage. Here is its history to date. Enough for the early dirt stories. In 1978 I moved from the dessert, Kennewick to Spokane, WA where I live today, this was a more forested mountain area, and I did a life style change, Marriage and bought a house. Riding was more in town and trails with my wife on the back. It would set for a while, I would get it re licensed have some fun, and it would set again. I would start it very so often to relive the old days. In 1992 I was in an auto accident and had a spinal fusion. Kick starting a motorcycle or riding off road was never the same again. Around 1997 I stared the restoration of a classic convertible and during the 14 restoration, years don’t think it made it out the garage and licensed more than a number times for various periods. It was staring to get noticed. I rode it to several car and motor cycle shows and it got lots of attention. People either did not know what it was, or very much knew. Comments were I should have been in the show, or at car shows even parked outside there would be people gathered to question or just check it out. I had a Suzuki Dealer ask me to contact me if I ever wanted to sell. The answer was always NO I would never sell. Whenever you ride it you get thumbs up, or comments when parked. Around 2010 I ran in to a group if of guys my age that had 4 wheelers. I got out the PE refreshed it, (not that it needed it) had the cylinder checked and honed, put in new pistons, and rings, cleaned up everything and had a great time low key trail riding with them. The 4 wheelers got sold and the party ended. It was last licensed in 2012. Its 2016 and I am now 65. Back problems from the past have caught up to me. My priorities are grand kid oriented, and the bike needs to be ridden and appreciated. It starts and runs amazing when you use it. But starting it (not bad, may take 10 or so good kicks) when it hasn’t run for a period, that will take me several trips to the Chiropractor to recover. Bottom line is, I rode it hard the first year or so and from then on it lead a charmed and stored life. A few weeks ago I decide to sell and I took it in to a local shop to have the front fork seals replaced. They thought it was very cool and had a customer ask if it was for sale. I ask about doing touch up and replacing the speedometer there are two NOS on eBay currently. They thought to sell on eBay and leave everything as is, and not to do touch up as the condition is excellent as it is. That leads me to besides the Old School Cool and inspection of the pictures I want to point out the Following: No Oil or seal leaks; Tight solid Exhaust; Solid Clutch, Gears, and Transmission; Never had to replace original Head, Tail, or Brake lights, all bright; Air Box, Air Cleaner, Carburetor original; Tires like new condition (Front Tire Original ); Cables good, all Adjustments good; Bright Shinny Appearance; Handle Bars Original Straight never bent; Seat no Tears, Rot or Soft Spots; Tank and Cap no leaks; Mirrors, Headlight, Taillight good. Hoses, Rubber Bushings, Boots, Seals Bushings good; Forks, Swing Arm, Frame not bent, no cracks, re-welds or repairs; No non OEM Suzuki Parts other than the enhanced Boyesen Reed Valve; All Factory Connectors and Tie’s except for lower Fuel line is a hose clamp. I believe that every bolt on the bike to be the Factory Bolt except for the rack (they may have come from Suzuki as days back you could not buy a metric bolts just anywhere); I have only used Bel-Ray Racing Oil MC-1= 50 to one mix. In about 2012 I was unable to find this and went to Bel-Ray Synthetic H1R at the same mix; Two sets of ignition and Helmet lock Keys, one Vintage Leather Suzuki Key Ring; Original Tool Kit and Owner’s Manual; Original title. Disclosure: Tank Right Front has small wave indentation, no paint damage, Right Upper Front Small Ding ¼ in by 1/16th deep with slight paint chip, Left side small 3/8 by ¼ in piece of clear tape may pull or soak off, not really noticeable but I did not want to chance pulling off, Left side around Suzuki logo Scratched see pictures; Front and Rear original Fender still bright yellow, there are few lighter areas after 39 years; Original Rear Shocks work good but are Soft; In 2012 the Speedometer after 30 mph starts to float, Trip and Odometer, and Reset work perfect, Lens is clean and clear; Left Side Number Panel has Crack in the inside, still solid; Soft Plastic Button on Horn Switch has gotten hard over the years and is hard to push, Horn works; Screw Driver bit for Original Tool Kit is broken so the Phillips Head is not usable. That’s it as I know it. As picture Shows, I have extra Font and Rear Light Bulbs, Three New Spark Plugs, Several Brake and Clutch Levers some new, Front Sprocket, Original Hand Grips; Owner’s Manual. I have entered a reasonable reserve, and will accept only US Funds thru eBay, Total Due after bid closes, and Buyer pays for and arranges shipping. No returns. Feel free to ask questions, and I will provide reasonable assistance with shipping as needed. I would Like to move bike within 30 or so days of sale. Bob
