Vehicle Detail
0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false Up for grabs is this classic street legal 1971 Honda SL125 in full operational and running condition with a clear FL title and over $5,000 in parts and labor put into it over the last couple of years. This was the culmination of taking the best of two old 1971 SL125s (see pics) and combining them into one head turning killer little ride. The bike was completely stripped down to the frame, nuts and bolts and electrical. New parts include a NOS wiring harness and coil, foot peg rubbers and new stainless steel wire spokes. All of the electrics work; the high and low beam headlight, the tail light and break light, the neutral and high beam indicators in the instrument cluster. The old spokes weren’t worth salvaging so we replaced them with stainless (for easier maintenance). The head was re-bored about 250 miles ago, the fork seals and fluids have all been replaced. I don't think the front forks are original, they are slightly extended, which actually improves the appearance in my opinion. Note that there is minor bubbling under the paint by the gas cap (it is not rust). the dribble is just gas before I wiped it off. I did not rebuild this bike myself; it was done by an authentic old school Italian mechanic (and racer) who moved his family to Pennsylvania (where I lived before I moved to Northeast Florida) and started a shop that is now full of 1970s and 1980s Ducatis, BSAs, Triumphs, Hondas and Kawis. Claudio broke a leg racing when he was young and so became a mechanic. He only works on old bikes and… he really knows his old bikes. He’s meticulous and a perfectionist. We even scored with the original tool kit – so hard to come by today. Claudio rebuilt the wiring harness into the handlebars to get all of the switches working – no easy task for anyone that has tried it. He only agreed to my 'non stock' paint job because he knew how cool it would look when it was done. I can’t even begin to tell you the hours he put into this rebuild and the painstaking work that went into breaking everything down, cleaning, polishing, prepping and painting, and then making sure that everything worked - perfectly. The detail on Claudio’s work speaks for itself when you look at the pictures. We did have to cream the inside of the tank – not much rust in it, but we wanted to be sure it wouldn’t compromise the gas. I have an extra side cover (cracked) and a little extra paint (both colors) for the bike. I also have a workshop manual. I get more compliments about this bike, every time I ride it, than I can tell you - it is a real head turner, and tons of fun to motor around on.
