The undercarriage, frame, floor & trunk pans are rock solid. The chrome and trim has all been done and look superb. Done to SHOW QUALITY! The interior is new and looks & feels terrific. It is the best I've ever seen since I rode in a brand new Riviera back in 1964! The trunk is the nicest detailed one I've ever seen. (since 1964) The engine compartment is spectacular and all correct. The engine runs smooth and powerful and the transmission shiftsperfect making this car a real joy to drive. If you so inclined, put the pedal to the floor, open up the dual Carter AFB'S and this car "Hauls A**" I prefer to relax and cruise at the legal speed limit and listed to the great sounding original AM/FM radio with the factory reverberator....it delays the sound from the rear speaker to the front speaker and makes it sound like your listening to music in a grand concert hall! It cranks right up the first time...every time and the factory air-conditioning blows ice cold. In 1963, the Buick Riviera was introduced to plug a gaping hole in GM's line. Buick's fortunes had fallen precipitously to ninth in the overall market, and it was desperate for a flashy new product. All the GM divisions were fighting for the car, but Buick's general manager Ed Rollert convinced GM design czar Bill Mitchell that Buick was the perfect division, likely because Rollert agreed not to alter the stunning design of the original "La Salle" design sketches Mitchell presented. Out of 37,658 Rivieras built in 1965, only 2122 were ordered with option code for the 425 CID Super Wildcat V-8 rated at 360 Horsepower and 465 ft. lbs. of torque at 2800 rpms. This is one of those very rare cars. Of the 2122 built in 1964....how many are in this condition? Less than a dozen at the most. This was judged to be the best of the best this past August of all of the 1963-1965 Buick Rivieras.ENGINES Referred to affectionately as the "nailhead" due to the shape and size of the valves and their configuration, the 425-cu.in. V-8 was stout! The engine's original design debuted in 1953. The 425 is heavily based on the 401-cu.in. V-8, with an 1/8-inch increase in bore, allowing most of the engine internals to carry over. All 425-cu.in. V-8s feature a unique camshaft, however, with more conservative valve timing. The Super 425 features a dual four-barrel, 600cfm Carter AFB carburetor setup. With the twin four-barrels. The 425 was good for an easy 360hp and 465-lbs.ft. of torque at just 2,800 rpm. Coded LX by Buick, the 425 features 10.25:1 compression and has hydraulic lifters. Both the block and heads are cast iron. They breathe through cast-iron exhaust manifolds, into a special 21/4-inch dual exhaust system that was laminated to control noise. The standard Riviera had duals, but with only 2-inch pipes. TRANSMISSIONS The 1964 Riviera Super 425 had a greatly improved transmission, the Super Turbine 400. The Super Turbine 400 featured a reinforced valve body. These transmissions also benefited from recalibration that allowed the Super Wildcat 425 to shift at higher rpm. The three-speed Super Turbine 400 featured four pinions in each planetary gearset, versus the usual three. Gears were engaged by a combination of overrunning clutches and multi-disc clutches, so that the overrunning clutch for each lower gear released while the multi-disc clutch for the next higher gear engaged, guaranteeing an ultra-smooth transition between gears. Kickdown on the Super Turbine 400 is controlled electrically. And to compensate for changes in altitude, the transmission features an aneroid bellows that adjusts hydraulic pressure automatically. These revisions caused Car and Driver magazine to refer to the Super Turbine 400 as "without question, the best automatic transmission in the world."DIFFERENTIALSThe standard & only-rear axle in the Super 425 was a 3.23-1 ratio .Rivieras ordered with the Super Wildcat 425 dual quad package package were all gifted with a limited-slip differential. BRAKES In their day......and even in some present-day circles-Buick's massive 12-inchfinned-aluminum, four-wheel-drum brake system was considered the best in the industry. While the brake linings covered a massive 320.5 square inches of swept area, the aluminum drum's superior conductivity allowed Buick to get by with less lining area per pound of vehicle than most other big car manufacturers. Motor Trend noted that the Riviera's "Al-Fin" brakes would "survive at least two more panic stops than other cars with cast-iron drums all-around." And even when they did fade, they were noted to recover in half the time as cast iron drums. These Duo-Servo brakes were backed with Moraine vacuum boost as a standard feature. They had air-cooled fins in the front and finned drums in the rearBODYA bit of trivia: All 1963 to 1965 Riviera doors were assembled without the exterior doorskin in place. This allowed assemblers to fit the frameless door glass properly; and then the outer doorskin was attached. The all-steel body of the 1963-1965 Riviera is stout and, in contrast to A-body Buicks, more rust resistant. Thicker gauge metal was used on Rivieras a INTERIORThe interior in the 1964 Riviera is a beautiful mix of chrome, vinyl and authentic walnut veneer. trivia: The Riviera's high center console was actually an engineering benefit. It allowed a straight route for the driveline, so that the Riviera could use a simple universal joint on its two-piece propeller shaft, rather than the more complex and expensive constant-velocity joint used in the other big Buicks. REPRODUCTION PARTS The high nickel content in Buick nailhead V-8s makes them extraordinarily durable. Though not as common as the Chevrolet 350-cu.in. V-8, a good number of mechanical parts are readily available from a number of Buick engine specialists, and even older neighborhood auto parts stores. The Super Turbine 400-essentially the same as the Turbo Hydra-Matic 400-is one of the world's great automatic transmissions, and is easily rebuilt by any competent transmission shop. This transmission and engine were completely rebuilt. The car runs fantastic and shifts exactly as it should...this is an amazing car to drive and hard to believe it is 52 years old! I drove this car a few days ago all around Boca Raton....I am hard pressed to remember when I've received as many honks, waves, thumbs up and people actually stopping & getting out of their cars to take photos of this car. I realize most would call this car a "Trailer Queen" I really don't like this name given to any vintage car that is restored to this #1 level...and to be blunt, we do not want to sell this car to anyone who is going to only put it inside a trailer and take it to only car shows to win a "best of show" or 1st place award. This car should be enjoyed and driven. If you want to take it to a car show thats a few hundred miles away...then PLEASE drive it to and from the show. Your smile will be as broad as mine was when I spent a few hours driving it around South Florida on a gorgeous day. I started off with the AC on and the power windows up.....but the AC blows so cold...and the weather was so glorious...that after twenty minutes, I lowered all the windows, turned off the AC and cranked up there FM station playing oldies and enjoyed the great South Florida day. I could talk about this incredible car for hours....but better than more details...please study every photo and then pick up the phone and call me at (954) 873-6495 and I'll give you the lowest acceptable price. This car is inside my residential air-conditioned garage....Hire an inspector or even better come in person. This is guaranteed to be a "NO DISAPPOINTMENT" 52 year old PRISTINE very collectable Buick Riviera at it's finest. She has arranged shipping for myself and several of my friends of more than 3000 cars over the past 10 years.Twenty First Century Auctions has been selling fine Late model sports cars, vintage and collectible cars on EBAYMOTORS since March of 2000 and we have a 100% feedback rating.Even in this very tough economic times where real estate has tumbled down a very steep hill....vintage cars...the real ones...the pedigreed cars in great restored or near perfect original condition continue to hold value and in most instances appreciate. Invest your money in something you just don't "Put in the Bank" but something you can "Drive to the bank and anywhere else you might choose to do with your family & friends." Why not have fun with your money? ...enjoy your life and know that when you wake up in the morning your dollars are still safe in your garage or warehouse and haven't evaporated into thin air! I asked Jerry while staying at his house in September of 1989, "why do you now have over 1000 collectible cars?"He replied with a slight grin and replied "Should I buy more?" We made a 10 car deal involving V-12 Ferraris on a breakfast napkin at the Dobbs House restaurant in the Houston Hobby Airport just before I boarded my flight back to Miami, Florida...and that was Jerry J...having fun and wheelin & dealin 24/7...anywhere and anytime! I considered my self very privileged to be close friends with the late Jerry J. Moore from Houston, Texas. Jerry was a Real Estate Mogul and one of the largest owners of shopping centers in the world. I really miss my pal and think of him often. Jerry was also an avid car collector and amassed one of the largest and best vintage car collections on the Planet. If Jerry told me once....he probably told me over 100 times......"In case you forgot...remember..."You will never see a Brinks truck at a funeral service or a Hearse with a luggage rack at a cemetery!" He believed that at best, life is uncertain and that one should enjoy desert 1st. Car collecting is a family thing...everyone around the world admires and loves these great vintage and collectible cars. We have sold cars from Australia to Alaska...From China to Saudi Arabia.....From Manhattan to Moscow....and the hobby keeps growing & expanding all the time. Collector car insurance is dirt cheap...about $250-$300 a year for a quality collectible like this. and you can buy full coverage! They usually require a garage and not more than 2500-3000 miles a year put on the car. I recommend you only buy a car like this if you have a garage to keep it in. I always try and look for major flaws and mention them and try to point them out when I see something. If you call me I will go over the car with you in great detail...both inside and out. I always try and find some flaws in every car and mention anything that doesn't work. On this Riviera the only thing I could find not working was the clock and the liter...I am going to try and fix the liter or buy one on Ebay. Also the clock does not keep accurate time. I could not find any cosmetic negatives to mention on this car-It is the nicest Buick Riviera I have ever owned, seen or driven! Your welcome to come in person to inspect this car for yourself...hire anyone you like to come on your behalf....bring your Experts and magnifying glasses........see if you can find anything really negative worth mentioning...we tried and couldn't find anything other than what we stated in the description...maybe you can?We have tried diligently to find any MAJOR flaws in the paint, body, interior, mechanical or electrical systems and have not been able to locate anything that we could list as a MAJOR problem in the description or that we haven't already mentioned. I truly believe there is NO such thing as a "PERFECT" old car or even a late model car that has been driven, WE ARE NOT making such a claim.....but this car comes close to perfection...ESPECIALLY when you consider it is 52 Years Old ! We are urging you to PLEASE come and inspect the car in person, drive it or to hire an expert inspector to do this for you. AGAIN....Please do not ask us to recommend anyone....we want you to select & hire your own inspector. If you wish to schedule an appointment to see this car, please call me at 954-873-6495....We would appreciate at least a 1-2 day notice. It is currently being stored in Boca Raton, FL. It is started and driven a few miles on occasion if it's a beautiful SUNNY day and allowed to warm up, possibly once a week. This car is owned free and clear. After you speak with us on the phone, it is possible to have a scanned copy sent directly to you. We know this is a Platinum investment collectable car..this is a car that you can still drive & enjoy and will increase in value...not decrease in value.....and if you chose to...you could drive it every day. We feel very strongly that a car like this will not only hold its value but in years to come will continue to appreciate. Please don't buy a Museum quality car like this unless you have a garage to store it inside. We do not believe this car has ever been left outside. You can look at this car in bright outdoor sunlight or indoors under halogen or florescent light...it still looks spectacular....but don't take our word...PLEASE...come and check it out yourself. I don't like surprises. Our goal not's to give you any....this is a NO DISAPPOINTMENT collectible classic Buick We don't "play games" We love when a car is inspected prior to meeting the reserve.
