Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my 1980 Mercedes Benz G Wagon. Nice Condition, runs well & starts instantly, good original condition for the age. SEVEN passenger truck with the rear split doors.Underwent a massive mechanical overhaul 6 years ago at a cost of $20,000. Due to the age, the engine needs valve stem seals. They cost about $2 a piece x 12 & about 8 hours of labor. Engine runs great with loads of power, but smokes at start-up. The engine is a gas burner, but features the M-B Auxiliary fuel tank for greater range.Engine has the original Low-Compression pistons to enable it to run on third world "gas." Also, I have service records going back 20+ years! Original German First Aid kit is still present. This engine is equipped with CIS basic. No computers or O2 sensors. A wonderful fuel injection system. Highly reliable & trouble-free. Factory electronic ignition keeps it running beautifully. Non-ethanol fuel used at all times. ***ALL MAJOR WORK PERFORMED BY ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC *** Work performed: FIVE new tires w/ less than 1,000 miles on them $1,173 NEW main & front driveshafts (cost of $3,000+ installation)Recored Radiator, belts & hoses.$448 Complete new brake system inc hoses, master cylinder, rear proportioning valve. $839+ New Bosch Fuel Injectors, ignition wires, cap, rotor, plugs New Bosch starter w/ heat shieldProfessionally steamed cleaned both fuel tanks-not rusted, new filler neck Installed low-mileage engine from a 1984 280GENew clutch kit, Clutch Master & Slave Cylinder & hose Re-Sealed 4 speed transmissionRe-built 4WD transfer case from Collie Autoworks w/ new mounts New Wiper shafts & caps, New wiper motor $285 Lubed heater fan, new resistorNew Heater Valve, cable & flushed heater core $90 New Rebuilt front axle w/ new bearings & CV joint $1,290 New headlight switch, & accessory switches (hazard, fan, foglight, hlamp washer)New fuel pump, accumulator, filter,Fuel tank sending unit $273 Proffessionally rebuilt CIS pressure regulator New Glove box $149.00New Propeller Shaft bolts (a must!) $56.40Tony's Automotive-Montgomery, AL Labor-$4,476 (inc 1-driveshaft)Used engine & CIS system: $750 (cheap!) + new engine mounts Water pump, hose $56Hood release cable $61Rebuilt accelerator linkageExhaust system inspected-hanger installed $50HD w/ retrofit bracket Steering shock absorber $302NEW drag link bar & steering bar $600NEW power steering pump (not installed) This is only a partial list of repairs/restoration. Body: The vehicle has been in Dry Storage for the past 20 years. However, there is rust that accumlated in the first 15 years of life. Rust is present some of the rear seams, but nothing major. The left floor pan could use some attention as the gas pedal bracket has worked loose. No accident damage whatsoever, vehicle drives very straight. In-person inspections are welcome. Recommendations: vehicle capable of being driven DAILY. You can fix the valve seals now, or keep an eye on the oil level & keep motoring. The rust issues are not urgent. These trucks are built to a very high standard & rust mediation is not a big deal. The differential locks are non-op. Simple to fix, needs master cyl/slave x 2. Suspension: drives very straight & brakes very well. Possible to lock up front end on dry pavement! Still has original shocks, but handles fairly well. Replaced the front track bar w/ bushings & steering arm. Seats-RECARO front seats, 20 years old, but I replaced the webbing & added additional foam support. Second row seat folds for additional storage. It weighs 100+ pounds. Factory Build List: Options: differential lock front & rear, two-part rear bumper, trailer socket-seven pin, antennae, mb-telephone w/ card, headlamp washer, glove compartment, lockable, HEAT ABSORBING GLASS, clock, tach, foglamps, rear foglamp, radiator guard undershield, trailer coupling, ball type, spare wheel carrier, drivers & co-drivers headrest, seat bench safety belts, center console tray w/ heat duct, first aid kit. If you use the "buy it now", I will throw in, at no additional charge, the factory bull bar. I removed it due to the weight placed on the front suspension.
