Vehicle Detail
I have owned 100’s of Porsches over the last two and half decades, many of them, indeed most of them midyears (74-77), in the early years because they were the affordable ones, back when all Porsches were still relatively cheap. Lately, over the last few years, I am drawn to them again. I guess it’s just the familiarity. I know these cars like the back of my hand. This particular car epitomizes everything I like about these cars. Porsche provided the perfect platform for the hotrod, custom, racer types to play with, and then stuck with the design long enough to make them iconic. Being in California, where so many Porsche dealerships were established early on, and the climate preserved them better than most, I have been fortunate to have owned many of the very best air cooled examples. This is likely my 15th or 20th 74 Carrera not counting the same amount of 75 Carreras. Given the 74/75 Carreras are among the lowest production numbers of any model Porsche ever produced, I still can’t believe it when I come across the opportunity to purchase another one. With this one, I thought, yes, it’s numbers matching, and yes it’s a clean, well owned rust free CA example that should be restored to original to maximize the ever increasing value…but I wanted to revisit the good old days. And for me, the car has a soul that has taken 40+ years to evolve. To restore this vintage weekend toy would be erasing everything I like most about it. Instead, I went all-in with a fast forward/ catching up, on where I think the car would have evolved to if it had not been outgrown, forgotten and to some extent neglected due to lack of use in the back of the owners garage where it has more or less hibernated, the last second half of it's life. I have enjoyed this car personally and consider it my 'company car'....selling to build the next one... .....so here is what we have: Numbers matching with COA, original US Carrera #260 sunroof delete coupe. Vin # 9114400260, Motor # 6341472, Build Date 11/73. 81,432 miles. Rust Free CA garaged car from new. Purchased new at Neillo Porsche in Sacramento, CA. 2 owner car. 2nd owner since 76, and a well known industry enthusiast (owner/creator @ Performance Techniques). It is absolutely exhilarating to drive and handles like it's on rails.Hotrod 2 in, 2 out custom muffler (sounds amazing/original included), with custom fully rounded rear lower valance.New fuel pump.New battery. The 915 trans shifts smooth and confidently without issue.Front and rear sway bars. Larger, stiffer torsion bars. Factory optioned Koni shocks/struts.Factory optioned front oil cooler. Strut tower bar. Car is lowered and corner balanced properly.New 17X7&9 Fuchs.New 205/50 and 255/40 Sumitomo HTR tires with custom white 'MIDYEAR' rubber decals (removable). Pop out rear windows. Exterior is very straight with perfect gaps and lines. Paint is aged, and really has a fantastic patina. Front hood and real grill are outlaw inspired personal indulgences. All glass is excellent with period correct decals for 74. New front trunk perlon. All sorts of nuances and attributes I am sure I am missing, but this listing should give you a pretty good general idea of what we have here. I am happy to discuss all the pros and cons with those interested in an opportunity like this. Priced realistically for the early Carrera market, taking in to account that while numbers are matching, car is pretty far from 'all original'...yet very cool. PPI is welcomed and encouraged.
