Vehicle Detail

Custom style, stock reliability.Built from a brand new 2013 Triumph Bonneville, this bike is part cafe racer, part scrambler, and all attitude. The bike features dozens of custom touches, many complete with custom finishing. Yet unlike many one-off customs, this bike was built using a carefully curated set of components from Triumph, British Customs and Biltwell, so it's 100% serviceable by your local Triumph dealer. This is a bike that's as easy to own as it is to look at. It even has a set of heated grips. The Press. This bike has been featured internationally, including these mentions:Silodrome: Custom Triumph Bonneville ScramblerThrillist: The Best New Custom Motorcycles In The WorldWind Blown: Bikes for Week of October 3rd, 2014Moto Lady: The Salzmoto Lady Rider Photo Shoot The details. The bike was left stock in key places to ensure maximum reliability and serviceability. Here's what was left alone:• frame (no cutting or welding)• paint on the tank and front fender• suspension components• wheels and tires• front braking system• stock wiring harness (no splices)• ignition, charging system, and ECU• intake• engine internals Stock is reliable but boring, so here's the fun stuff. Remixed Triumph components:• Triumph Scrambler performance exhaust from Arrow (with ECU tune from Triumph)• Triumph Scrambler right side cover• Triumph Scrambler right side cover / fuse box mounting bracket• Triumph Scrambler engine crash guards• Triumph Scrambler right foot peg brackets• Triumph Scrambler rear brake master cylinder assembly, reservoir, pedal, etc.• Triumph Thruxton front turn signal bracket (modified and mounted upside down)• Triumph skid plate (modified)• Triumph fork gaiters• Triumph accessory tach• Triumph adjustable control levers for both clutch and brake (not shown) British Customs components:• Brown leather "Slammer” seat w/gel insert• Turn signals front and rear• Enduro-style foot pegs with heals via Joker Machine• Flat dual gauge dash panel (modified)• Front brake master cylinder reservoir• Ignition relocation (to frame)• Reg/rec relocation (to frame)• Air Injection removal• Passenger peg sliders Biltwell components:• Tracker bars in black• Thruster grips Misc:• Finned engine stator cover from Speed Merchant• Mirrors and fork ears from Dime City Cycles• Universal heated grip kit from Aerostich• Headlight stone guard from eBay• Bolt-on bobbed rear fender and tail light from eBay (which I painted myself)• Braided stainless steel fuel lines front and rear• Machined, motocross-style adjustable handlebar risers• A color-matched custom rear fender and tail light assembly• Stainless steel rear brake line Custom fabrication (from scratch):• Rear exhaust hanger made from 22-g steel • Rear brake pedal return spring mounting point Design notes:• The bike has an intentional belt line under the seat and tank. The profile is focused on going dark and subdued below that belt line, white and warm above it. This is why the exhaust headers are wrapped and the heat shields are blacked out.• Throughout, there are black components with polished edges to echo the engine fins. This includes the Speed Merchant finned engine cover, the wheels, the skid plate, the dash plate, the heated grip switch plate, the fork ears, and the exhaust heat shields. These details provide a cohesive theme without each component visually yelling for attention.• The overall design centers around the side exhaust, which draws a bold line down the side of the bike. Removing the big headers and pipes from the stock Bonneville also alters the bike's visual "stance", even though it’s the stock suspension. This reveals the very thin profile of the Bonneville frame and makes the engine look like it’s overflowing out of the frame.• The intention was not to build a “scrambler” because I had no intention of ever taking it off-road, and I did not put knobby tires on it just for the affectation. If anything the idea was to push past the very trendy idea of a scrambler and more toward a “cafe motard” vibe. Hence the tongue-in-cheek artwork on the left side cover.• Also tongue-in-cheek is the bicycle bell on the handlebars. This is something I’ve taken to doing on all my motorcycles. It’s acknowledgement that our motorcycles are really just an extension of what our bicycles were as kids: the freedom of two wheels. It’s also a reminder not to take this custom motorcycle stuff too seriously. Build notes:• About 50 hours total build time What you'll love most about owning it: rolling up to your local bike gathering with 100% certainty that nobody else will have the same Bonneville. What you'll love most about riding it: the addictive, atomic raspberry growl made by the exhaust. It is so choice. ValueThe MSRP of a Triumph Bonneville is $8,099. There are $4,200 worth of additional custom components on this bike, plus about 50 hours of labor pulling the whole thing together. Had this been a commissioned build, the total price would have been in the $16,000-$18,000 range. ConditionThe bike has a mere 1,618 miles on it as of the time of this posting, so it's nearly new. There are a couple of incidental scratches. One on the tank, and another on the exhaust (both pictured) that could be polished out easily enough if they bother you. The graphics on the side covers are under clear coat, so they should be nice and durable. It's received all its scheduled maintenance by our local Triumph dealer, Motoworks Chicago, which is also where the bike was originally purchased. Everything works, including the heated grips. The bike has never been wrecked, dropped, raced or so much as wheelied. PaymentA deposit of $250 is required within 24 hours of the auction closing. Payment in full is required before pickup.
