Vehicle Detail
For sale is a well-maintained 2004 Saab 9-3 Aero with just a tick under 145,000 miles. The previous owner put about 120,000 on the car commuting to/from work on the highway, and the car’s been a great driver for me for the last four years. Now that I’m moving away from New York and taking a new job, it’s unfortunately time for me to part with this terrific car. Mechanicals: The car is mechanically sound and has been maintained by a former Saab dealership mechanic for the past four years. (If you’re local, be sure to check out Briarcliff Classics and Imports in Briarcliff Manor, NY - they’re familiar with all the unique qualities of Saabs and have connections to source OEM parts.) The turbocharged engine (making 210 hp, and 221 lbft of torque) pulls incredibly well, and the 6-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. Clutch engagement happens in a narrow range (just something to get used to) but there are no signs of clutch wear or slippage. Servicing: There were several recalls on this model year Saab, all of which have been recently addressed. The driver’s seatbelt and tensioning mechanism are brand new, and the water pump, battery, and ECU - which can be prone to failure - have been replaced in the past 10,000 miles. The car has also been outfitted with front struts and a new radiator (around 125,000 miles). It’s also had regular oil changes and periodic services for the entire time I’ve owned it, I’m a firm believer in preventative maintenance. Interior/Features: This car is the top-of-the-line Aero trim level, which retailed for about $39,000 with options in 2004. On the inside, this car has been outfitted with just about every option straight from the factory. It has iPod compatibility, dual zone climate control, 3-way power front seats with seat heaters, power sliding sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, and a refrigerated glove compartment, all of which work like new. The front and rear speakers (in the 13-speaker sound system) have also been upgraded to component models, with crossovers mounted in the trunk. Bluetooth phone connectivity has also been added, alongside a stereo microphone for full handsfree functionality. On the down side, the central locking system on the rear left door can be a bit finicky, so it occasionally needs to be locked by hand. However, the alarm system is still functioning perfectly. There is also quite a bit of trim rattle (especially at certain engine speeds) but nothing out of the ordinary for a car of this age. Cruising noise on the highway, all things considered, is not bad at all, and the ride is comfortable enough to make the car a great long-distance cruiser. Exterior: On the outside, the navy blue paint still looks great, and complements the 17” upgraded alloys to make for a distinctive looking sedan. There are almost no noticeable scratches on the bodywork itself. However, the front chin spoiler has taken a bit of a beating thanks to uneven NY roads and steep driveways. Damage is not noticeable from a distance, but the underside is quite scratched. In truth, this component can be replaced for about $300, but I’m not sure I’d opt for that, as a new one will probably get scratched just as much in the course of daily driving. If you have any questions or concerns about this special car, I invite you to contact me at (eight4Five)-825-244(one) and I’ll do my best to answer you! I’d also be happy to schedule test drives for anytime after December 16, as I’ll be out of town before then. The car is located in Tappan, NY. Don’t miss out on a car that’s been so kind to me, I look forward to finding it a great new home. Happy bidding!
