Vehicle Detail
Welcome to the auction of this rare 1985 280 GE Mercedes GWagon! Only serious and ethical bidders are invited to bid here. Please read the description and feel free to contact me with any questions. I bought this very rare, relatively low mileage 1985 Mercedes Gelandewagen almost 10 years ago, as a commercial realtor specializing in land sales. Only really used it for off road driving on one occasion, but surveyed a fair amount of mountainside land sites on paved roads, and have had a lot of fun with it. This has been a real novelty, showcase type of a vehicle and continues to be a head turner, any time I drive it. Since I've transitioned out of the land business, I really haven't driven the vehicle more than 1,000 miles in the last 2 years, and would rather sell it to a G-wagon enthusiast, rather than to just keep it garaged. I''ve also only put just over 6,000 miles on the vehicle in the 10 years that I've owned it. It has been a 3rd vehicle, used way too moderately, though it's been extremely reliable. I am now moving to a home that will only accommodate 2 cars, and with a heavy travel schedule, I'm not able to drive or garage this any longer.Imported into the US by Europa, The G-Class was originally the offspring of a 1979 joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Austrian companies Steyr and Puch. This early G 500 ( 280 GE) was also imported into the US by Europa, for two decades before officially arriving on U.S. shores. Powered by a variety of gasoline and diesel engines, early Gs are rugged utilitarian workhorses with a go-anywhere reputation, and this one certainly is a rugged workhorse. At over 2 tons, some would describe this as an over engineered, expensive, rugged, rolling bank vault because of it's size and early military utilization. Ebay does not recognize the VIN on this European vehicle, but it is WDB46023317901737.The pictures attached to this listing show the car in both the previous state, and the current state. Really, the only difference is that about 18 months ago, I had the front headlights changed from the original, to a lower intensity HID set of headlights. The mechanic failed to tighten the screws on the right casing, and so the casing disengaged while I was driving the vehicle out of the parking lot, and so as you'll see in some of the latter pictures, the paint has scraped off of this casing and the casing will need to be painted. The car also has some rust on the front right just below the windshield, as you'll also note in the pictures, and some minor rust on the back fender. In the last 3 months, I've had trouble starting the car, since I don't get a chance to drive it often anymore. My mechanic put in a cold start bypass switch, but now it appears that the problem was a clogged fuel pump, that will need to be replaced. The average mechanic isn't trained on this vehicle, and isn't confident in their ability to diagnose and repair. But someone who knows and understands older cars well, and/or optimally, is familiar with the Gwagon, will be able to pick up this rare vehicle at a great value. With less than 100,000 miles on this vehicle, this vehicle may have only driven 30% of its capacity! An absolute workhorse, and a great minor restoration project for the right owner. Early pictures show the vehicle without the chipped paint and rust below the windshield. This will give you a great idea of what you're working with. Just Beautiful!! Later pictures above, will show the vehicle in its current state, but not tons of exterior to repair, in comparison. Custom accessories on this car,. i.e., 6 inch chrome trim all the way around the bottom of each of the 5 doors, and other great Gwagon accessories. As you'll see from the pictures, the interior seats are in great condition. I have the original operating manual and records/receipts, as well as clear title, of course, and with just some minor work, this rare vehicle is a GREAT find. Here are some of the additional improvements made to this Gwagen over the course of the years :Upgraded Magnaflow Exhaust SystemNew OEM Lenses-Tailights, Parking side markers, clear turn signal lensesStainless steel lense protectors on tail and front signal lightsReplaced Hard tire coverEibach Europa 2" suspension lift from Europa, with front and rear springs and Bilstein shock absorbersOriginal Gwagon rims, powder coated in black metallic33X9.50 Goodrich KO All terrain tires. 285/75/R16190 Amp AlternatorAC compressor, and rear exhaust system replacedPlease do realize however, that this vehicle is still 30 years old, and will need some work. With the fuel pump clogged and possibly in need of replacement this will need to be repaired before putting it on the road. If necessary, I am available to show the vehicle in person, with some proper notice. I do travel for business and so weekends are best for me. I would be happy to arrange and facilitate shipping to your location., though shipping is not included with this purchase. I do only accept PayPal, unless a verified cashier's check is delivered in person. The vehicle is located in Las Vegas, NV. Car is being sold in as is condition. Best of luck to you in the bidding process. Deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction's close, with shipping arrangements and full payment made within 7 days. Thank you for viewing! I know you'll enjoy owning and driving this rare, classic vehicle.
