Vehicle Detail
If you are familiar with the story of the MGB GT V8, then you will be impressed with this vehicle. This 1974 MGB GTV8 is built as a tribute to both the effort that Ken Costello exerted in building the first V8 powered MGBs and one of the 7 factory left hand drive V8s imported to the states. Please note the following about this vehicle Straight, clean 1974.5 MGB GT built in October 1974 VIN GHD5UE362059G, Commission Number: G23D080735, Body Number: GU23D 00231GP; Correct 215CI, 3.5L Aluminum V8. The block number is HI305245 which is the 1-year only (62’) 190HP@4,800 rpm 11:1 compression engine. Please note that is fed by an Edelbrock or Holley (?) 600cfm 4 barrel carburetor instead of the factory SU set up;Factory brass top MGB GTV8 radiator and overflow canister;Electric fan;Factory 4spd overdrive transmission with 3rd gear lock out;Chrysler 7.25" rear end5 correct Dunlop composite alloy factory MGB GT V8 wheels;New tires (less than 1,000 miles);Damask Red paint that looks impressive from 3 feet;As a whole, this is a clean and well appointed interior including black vinyl seats with new foam and coverings (front and rear) mounted over grey carpet with grey headliner. White Smith gauges;New interior panels and switches;Proper MGB GT V8 badging; Leather wrapped small steering wheel for increased responsiveness; 4 wheel tube shocks; All glass and seals are in above average shape and/or have been replaced;Later model vacuum assist brakes, stainless brake lines;New battery;Former museum vehicle; We would like to point out the following observations: Passenger front fender has slight cracking in the paint. Does not appear to be “Bondo” cracking. Two small to get a photograph of and cannot be seen from 3 feet. It is there however;Speedometer works but does not read correctly. I recommend having recalibrated; Overall this is one of the best built V8 MGBs we have come across. It has a little age but has many many miles to go. It is not a restro-mod. Aside from the carb and intake you have to know what to look for to know it is not a factory car. Car is in great mechanical condition. I just completed a long weekend at the Texas MG gathering in Tyler (car placed 2nd in show) along with several shorter trips. Driving daily. Car runs and drives beautifully. One of the most modern feels of any MG I have owned. I would have no hesitation driving this vehicle anywhere. Feel welcome to contact me. October 26 Update: To answer a few questions/clarify info: The tires in the pictures are not the tires on the car. The tires are new Hankook speed rated tires. The car is being driven daily which is why the ad reads "less than 1,000". Spare is not new;Tachometer reads 2,100 RPM at 70MPH in 4th gear with OD engaged. I do not know how fast it will go. I have seen a significantly higher speed in a safe, non-public location without straining the engine;Yes, I would drive this vehicle anywhere and would not hesitate driving it home;Yes we will entertain a partial trade;Yes, the price is negotiable. Rest assured we are selling the car and you will not offend us with your offer. Please use the "make offer" option in this listing. If we do not sell, it will go to a classic car auction. Yes, you can come view the vehicle and/or have it inspected. We welcome that. Let me know and we will set a time for a private showing.Thank you and don't hesitate to ask any/all questions. October 29 Update: To answer a few questions/clarify info:"Why did you reduce the price?" Serious inquiries but no takers at asking price. Auction registration is closing in soon, so we are getting serious about price/selling. Rather not pay the fees/commission;"What rear end is in the car"- The rear-end appears to be a Chrysler 7.25". I am not 100% positive about that, but it has every indication to me."Have you inspected the brakes?" Yes brake components have been inspected. It has new rear cylinders, new shoes, turned drums, good front pads, clean disks and new stainless brake lines. I really think its just me. "Any rust?" No rust on the body, floor boards are solid, sills are solid, gar is in good shape."Would I drive it to....?" Yes I would. Driving it daily. The car runs and drives solid. "Would I pick you up at the airport"? Yes and deliver the car there or bring you to our shop depending on which direction you are heading home. We are an hour-hour 15 from either Dallas airport"What color is the carpet" It is a silver/grey. I intended to change it when we redid the interior, but it really grew on me. I am willing to either order a set for you or discount price if you want a black carpet kit. "Do horns, lights, etc work?" Yes. Just had a a Texas safety inspection. I noticed that the cigarette lighter and map light have stopped working yesterday. I believe those are the same circuit. Working when we reinstalled interior, so probably a loose connection. Will evaluate. October 31 Update:Brake soft pedal sorted.
