Vehicle Detail

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for all the interest you showed in this car, and to those who bid on it. Up for sale is a 1963 Mercedes 220b. This is a 2.2 liter 6 cylinder gas engine with dual Solex carburetors mated to a 4 speed automatic on the steering column. This engine is original. This car is currently not running. From what the owner told me, it had a bad head gasket. He took the engine apart and didn't know how to put it back together. It has been apart for 11 years now. I bought this car last summer, in hopes to restore it and make a nice driver. The previous owner had this car for about 40 years, and was going to scrap it. I thought it was too good for that. This car is mostly original. The only things that are not, are the seat upholstery and the Kenwood radio. It has the original headliner, that is in great shape. The dash has a nice molded dash pad, however the dash and wood are in nice condition, without any cracks. The front seats have a couple of minor seems coming apart, but otherwise in nice condition. All of the windows go up and down, and the doors, trunk and hood shut as if they were new. You don't have to slam them. As far as the body goes, it's in pretty good shape too. It is an Arizona car. The only real signs of rust are the drivers door jam, at the bottom, and the right rear fender behind the tire, shows a little bubbling. The trunk is solid, with only the fuel tank access caps being rusty. The floor boards all seem to be solid too. It has the original carpet also. The rest of the car appears to be solid and clean. All of the glass is in great shape and original to the car. The car has 2 number plates under the hood. The one on the right is the body serial number, and the left is the chassis. The chassis number plate is there, but has a little damage to it. There is a number on the chassis, however I have not found it. Most of the chrome is in decent shape. There is some real minor pitting, and one rear bumber guard that is quite rusty. But, I have an extra one in good condition. There are no dents in the bumbers. In the trunk, there are 2 jacks. One is too jack up the car, and the other, I believe, is to lift the tires on to the studs. It was very thoughtful of Mercedes. This car has four seat belts, all 3 point, and all work. Just looking at the car, it looks like it should drive. I'm not going to sugar coat it, this car still needs quite a bit of work. I think it would totally make a great project, or if you needed parts, it would make a really good parts car. The previous owner didn't have any receipts or manuals for this car. I did find the original manual for this car that is in good condition. I also bought the original manual from Mercedes, on disc. I am reluctantly selling this Mercedes, because I can see the potential. I just don't have the means to afford it at this time. I just don't want to see this beauty rot away in my driveway. The previous owner also lost the keys. I found a locksmith that can make them, however there just hasn't been enough money for that. As a result, the steering wheel lock is engage, and right now will only go in a straight line. The mileage says 49k miles, however I believe it to be at over 149 thousand miles. This car does have a clean Arizona title in my name. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
