Vehicle Detail
This ad is for my 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Pick Up diesel affectionately named Bun Bun. (cause you know, rabbits?) She's a strong pulling 1.6l diesel with a GP code 4 speed. This is a .71 fourth gear that is great on the highway. Engine and trans has approx. 80,000 miles and is a transplant into a body with 188,8xx (working odometer!) Repainted factory LE5B by previous owner less than a year and a half ago. LE5B is one of the rarer colors VW offered and in my opinion one of the best looking for these trucks. This is a beautiful example of what is getting hard to find. This is a great jumping off point for someone looking to do a full rotisserie restoration or ready to be put on daily duty like I used her for. Very solid strut towers and floor pans with virtually no rust which is a rare thing for an old VW in the south! I had a local VW mechanic who specializes in older water-cooled VWs do a major tune up when I first got her ($1600 parts and labor) to get her reliable and he did a great job. She starts first time every time and does not idle rough, even on a recent 15 degree morning! No block heater needed! Recent (within last 8000 miles) work includes: Installed rebuilt Injection Pump (the weakness on many of these old diesels) New Bosch alternator. New Bosch Glowplugs New Bosch Relays New Bosch Glowplug wiring New HD Motor Mounts (including the passenger side which can be an all day ordeal even with the right tools) New German brake booster New Bosch OEM Injectors New Gates Timing Belt New German Water Pump New German Radiator Hoses New Pulleys and tensioner New V belts A/C Truck; all intact just not charged and needs condenser (included in sale) More recent work (last 1000 miles) New adjustable coil overs up front (ST made by KW suspension $550 for the pair) New Corvette air shocks in the back to adjusting for load and leveling the rear with the front (Very nice ride at 20psi unloaded up to 200 psi with a very full load) New German Ball Joints New German axles and CVs. New German strut bearings New German outer Tie Rods New Bushings New Control Arms (includes GTI front sway bar if you'd like) New Brake Pads (front) New German wheel Bearings (front) All fluids (coolant and trans) flushed and changed with Bentley spec. Good used tires put on two wheels and two new tires Parking brake goes to three clicks and holds just like it's supposed to. Changed all filters (fuel, oil, and air) and changed motor oil less than 25 miles ago to get her ready for you to drive home! I did lower the truck just a little to give her a sportier look but it's hardly noticeable: New ST Coils up front ($550 for the pair) New Corvette Air Shocks On Caddy Pan Axle Flip Kit (air adjustable with a bicycle pump so you can still use it as a truck, I used her to haul band equipment and multiple full kegs) Theres more I'm forgetting but contact me with inquires. I'll get back to you ASAP. I have over $4500 in parts and labor alone for this project not to mention the $4000 I paid for the truck. I realize that i'll never get that back out but that's not why we own these old VW projects, it's to keep them going. I want to be straight up with anyone who likes Volkswagens so this is everything I know that's wrong: -Misc. small flubs on body work but way cleaner than 90% of the mk1s I've seen. -Slight leak out of head gasket. Not bad, but spits just a little oil out the front on to the block. Never had to add more than a splash every 3000 miles. Always used synthetic rotela and german filters. No smoke from exhaust except faint smoke on start up which is normal. -Transmission leaks a little at the main seal and she could use a new clutch (it doesn't slip at all yet but you can tell) but for the right price I could include a very nice rebuilt and resealed 7A code 5 speed with new linkage and refinished mounts. This transmission has the same .71 final drive gear which makes it the perfect highway 5 speed. Let's discuss this before the end of the auction if you're interested as I was saving this for another project. -Interior is rough but complete and original. It never bothered me you can tell it's 30 years old. I hate to sell her but it's time to move on to another project (the rusty yellow truck in the last picture). I've driven her daily and even lived in her for a short period of time and she never left me stranded. With a couple weekends work she could be perfect in my eyes. I just like an on going project so theres still some fun left but the major BS has been worked out. Looking to pass her on to someone who will love her as much as I have. These are the only pics on my phone but I will take some better one's tomorrow and have them up by tomorrow evening. Don't hesitate to request specific pictures… I'd love to help! Buyer assumes responsibility for pick up or shipping however contact me and maybe I can help out. I'm not an unreasonable guy!
