1990 Porsche 928 GT 5-Speed Under 73,000 Miles on this Rare 5 Litre 4-Cam 5-Speed Grand Touring Porsche in Black over Tan Leather Reportedly Bought New by a member of the Rockefeller Family - Long Term Recent Ownership in Virginia Very Good Service History - Major Recent Work Includes Timing Belt/Water Pump, New Bridgestones & More! Oh... and... Happy Thanksgiving! Please Wait For All Pictures To Load! Most recently in the care of a (now) retired radiologist in Richmond, VA since Christmas of 1996, this 1990 928GT has just under 73,000 original miles from new. The car wears beautiful all original paint with the exception of some blend work to the bumpers (as documented and ordered by the last owner on his purchase in 1996!) and an entirely original and nearly spotless tan leather interior. It has been fastidiously serviced including a timing belt and water pump replacement less than 2 years/2,000 miles ago. On our acquisition, much more recent servicing has gotten it fully caught up in all aspects by our Savannah Sports Car clinic who stand behind their work. I love 928s - my father was a Porsche salesman par excellence from 1984-1998 and I have some great 928 "Unterseebootkapitaen" stories I'll share with you if we get to know one another. There's nothing quite like the huge Porsche of yesteryear (all the new ones are about this size today, which is funny to me...) One serious consideration that needed to be addressed immediately was where the rubber met the road - literally! The tires on the car were very dry-rotted and have just been replaced with fresh Bridgestone Potenzas on the original Porsche rims. At this time, the entire braking system and Porsche SperrDifferential system were completely flushed out, pads and rotors are fine and documented as having been changed not many miles ago. Another thing we did was lovingly claybar, buff and polish all the paintwork, nothing was overly dull, stained or damaged in any way but the car was dirty beyond what could be done by a heavy wash and a regular detail, so we went the extra miles. The following photos will show you just how sharp the finished product turned out! Gorgeous original finish! Magnificent shine all the way around, straight as an arrow, all original VIN stickers on every panel. A menacing stance from the great grand-touring Porsche. Just about to turn 25 years old, this 928 is weeks away from being an Antique. Who'd have thought it? Let's have a quick look inside the rear compartment.... All the original books and keys are present along with the upstate New York selling dealer's card - Gordon Rockefeller was reputed to be the original owner, which fits, since he's in charge of their farming operations up in that neck of the woods. Records go back to the second owner in Furlong, PA, the owner of a lamp and shade company. The car was then purchased by an independent European car specialist (who happens to now be the Porsche dealer in Richmond!) and sold to its most recent owner, from whom we bought the car. There are a few gaps but the documentation is pretty solid going back about 20 years! Just the original carpet and cargo cover here All of the original spanners, towing eye, pliers and spark plug wrench. Looks like a screwdriver went AWOL over the last quarter century. We were even so picky as to replace the roof-mounted antenna as the original was somewhat dry-rotted. Clearly, all the glass is original to the car as well, I don't even think the windshield was ever replaced! A magnificent car from every angle! The original engine has been well kept over all these years, it starts on the first twist of the key and runs very well. Among the many other records that do come with the car, we could not find the record of the timing belt and water pump job though a Contitech sticker was put on the left hand plenum tube at the airbox denoting date and mileage (2013, 71,xxx miles). So that we could guarantee that this was done, we did a full visual inspection to confirm this fact and we stand behind the work. So, now, let's have a look inside the car... The all original full power leather seats are lovely with just minor patina from age. The carpets are similar, plush and undamaged. I must mention that the sole inoperative part on this car (to my knowledge) is the memory setting control for the driver's seat. The ECU used by Porsche is shared with no other cars, it's typically bad and would seem to be here as well. There's no ready solution to fixing it and we didn't. The dash is likewise uncracked and in really great shape. 1990 was the first year for dual airbags in the 928. We just replaced a non-working aftermarket stereo with a brand-new Blaupunkt. This also has a remote for rear seat passengers. Note also the rear A/C controls in addition to the climate control for the front passengers - the air blows nice and cold thanks in part to a newer A/C compressor some years ago as documented by the records. If you were worried about a black car in summertime, don't be with this one. Note all the lights in the binnacle that light up just prior to starting up.... As they should, they all go out! The PSD (rear slip control) light came on during our ownership, which prompted a full brake fluid flush that was sorely needed and now that system again works as it should! The sunroof transmission was also recently repaired and this, along with all other power options, works very well. More luscious tan leather, soft and supple. Looking across the rear seats from the right, note the rear A/C vents. Neat, huh? More of the same! Both door panels were off to service the window regulators and reattach the panels correctly as one was out of whack. Born on the 21st of December, 1989, this 928 is coming up on its 25th birthday in less than a month! I hear it likes Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte with a little BG MOA on the side, so get some before it gets to your garage! The matching VIN plaque in the windshield Just a quick tour of the original rims with original Porsche wheel locks and the brand-new Bridgestone Potenzas! All very nice! Not everyone will put their car up on a rack for your close inspection but we do. The car still has a great amount of its original Dinitrol coating on aluminum parts under the hood as well as underneath. There's no rust or evidence of crash damage anywhere nor are there any issues that we found troubling. We did rebuild the shifter mechanism with new bushings and a thorough alignment, since loose shifting was an issue with the car when I retrieved it. Lots of light on the subject here. Nice and dry underneath and nothing rearing its ugly hear anywhere. The gold residue on many parts is from the protective Dinitrol applied at the factory when new. payment/shipping This car is being sold by a licensed and bonded dealer of fine used automobiles in Savannah, Georgia, with whose owner the car presently resides; as with many of our ventures, we own it together. Please understand that this is an unusual 25 year old sports car built by men and not gods - and is thus sold as-is, where-is with no implied or stated warranty or guarantee. As stated above in the listing, we have made a herculean effort over the last two months to correct issues that we found with the car (at the end of the day, very few) and believe it to be in extremely good health based on many years of experience with Porsches of all types over many years. Full payment is due within seven days of auction close unless discussed with me in advance of your bid. Your winning bid is a contract to buy, not just to look or for first right of refusal; the only reason your contract would be null and void is if it was found that I willingly misrepresented the car in the above description. If you feel you need to inspect the car prior to purchase, please arrange and have this inspection done prior to placing a successful bid. Accepted forms of payment include a cleared certified cheque or wire transfer in the dealership's bank account, or cash in person on pickup (no cash via the mail, eBay!). Georgia residents MUST pay sales tax to the dealership in addition to your purchase price just as you would to any other automobile dealer. We require that paperwork be completed prior to or at the time of pickup (should you do this in person) in any case. We do not charge tax to out of state buyers as this is something you handle at the DMV or, naturally, other dealers in all 50 states. Shipping or pickup must occur within fourteen days of auction close unless discussed with me in advance of your bid. We are happy to refer you to one of the high-quality enclosed collector car shipping companies that we use frequently in the normal course of business - and we cannot stress enough the importance of using such a carrier and not a random open transport broker or carrier you might find online, particularly as this is an unusual car in phenomenal original condition. For international buyers, we can carry the car to the port of Savannah at no charge or to other ports for a nominal fee, though shipping beyond the U.S. border must be entirely arranged for and paid by you. Please contact me if you need any assistance with logistics and I'll be happy to help. We reserve the right to cancel all bids and end the auction early at any time during the course of the sale should a sale occur outside of eBay as the car has been offered quietly through other channels over the past month. I typically do not do this at all and only when full payment has been received from such a buyer will the auction be pulled. You may rest assured that if and when the reserve price is met, the auction will run to the end, period. Any legal action associated with this sale from either the buyer or the seller is to take place in the State of Georgia in the Chatham County Courthouse. The bidder/buyer further agrees that any legal action will be heard in Chatham County in the State of Georgia. All legal actions associated with this auction/sale will be governed by the laws of the State of Georgia and buyer agrees to be responsible for all legal costs including, but not limited to, court costs, expenses, attorney fees, cost of process service, and all other costs associated with the normal course of business.
