NO RESERVE!! Up for sale is a rare, 1977 Porsche 911S Targa wide body tub in all steel....this is not one of the types where someone haphazardly fiberglassed and bondo'd on some flares...I have been told by some Porsche specialists that Porsche converted some 911S Targas to the turbo widebody. I believe this is one of those RARE cars (see attached letter from Bodymotion Porsche). I've owned and driven this car since 2003, and putting it up for sale is a bittersweet decision, as it's part of the family. I'm in the military, and for past years I've been moved all around the country, and have also been deployed overseas such that I had to park the car in dry Texas storage for some time. I recently moved to Germany and left my car covered up in the garage of my parents in South Carolina. It's always been a thrill to drive....very fast and exciting, but unfortunately, sitting these past years is just not kind to mechanical things. Currently, she will not start - I believe it is an electrical problem as the spark plugs are not sparking when you turn the engine over. Prior to my new assignment overseas, I didn't have the time nor energy to find and hire a trustworthy (and I'm sure expensive) restoration shop to properly go through it and fix, restore, etc. I was planning on just keeping her in the garage until I returned from Germany, as this style 911S is becoming extremely rare, sought after, and therefore should continue to appreciate in value. But for now, I've reluctantly decided to put it up for sale and let the marketplace decide for me whether I should keep it or keep the insurance paid and "pay the man" in a few years when I return to restore my olde friend. MECHANICAL OVERVIEW It's showing 120,807 miles, and according to my title and paperwork, I believe that is the actual mileage. When purchased (~February 2003) I was told it had an upgraded and recently rebuilt 1985 3.2 liter engine. For me, it's been the f a s t e s t, scariest, and best handling car I've ever driven, or ever ridden in. It has the highly desirable 6 weber carbs and dual K&N air filters. It came with Borla dual exhaust, which I had to have welded/repaired some years ago, and the last time I drove it and parked it, the sound of that sweet Borla growl and whine will be one of my best, and longest lasting fond memories...very Indy and European sounding. The transmission is a 5 speed, and overall worked well, but in the past few times I drove it I had some issues getting it to click into 5th gear...I was told there's an adjustment collar on the linkage, but I got deployed before I could get under it to find that adjustment. When last driven, the clutch and engine were strong, but the engine was using and leaking some oil,,,(some smoke at revving), while the leaking (drip drip) part I'm told is not uncommon. The brakes worked good (has upgrades...cross drilled, big calipers) and with the exception of an occasional creak from what I believe are worn bushings in the front torsion bar area, the suspension was quite responsive. I believe it had air conditioning originally, as there appears to be a condenser and lines, but some components (like the compressor) are missing. The car has chrome 996 wheels. The rear tires could be fatter/wider, but I've been impressed with the rubber it has, and so have not upgraded. What will it take to get it running and on the road? I'm not sure, but it spins over with good sounding compression and sounds like it always has when I turned the key, but now it won't fireā¦like I said, I suspect an electrical problem, as the fuel pump is running and the carbs are pressurizing up according to the rear line gauge. Some years ago I had an ignition switch wire problem...loose wire that had shorted, and this was repaired. Could that be the no start problem? It could be a contributor, but my Dad suspects a bad ignition brain box or bad ignition coil. Take your chances, but I think it's something simple like the ignition switch or what Dad said. BODY/CHASSIS OVERVIEW The sleek lines, large flares, and large whales tail of the wide body 911 are impressive and flat out "in your face catch me if you can" awesome looking. There's nothing out there like it, and everyone gawks at traffic lights (or when they're passed)...hah. On the way home from buying this beast I tangled with a black Ferrari Testarossa on I-20 in South Carolina. Suffice it to say, we were both impressed and maintained a deep and thorough respect of each other. My Dad was following us in a Toyota, and said the scene reminded him of the famous Gumball Rally movie. That's all I'll say about that. On the body tub, You will be hard pressed to find a better example to restore. I cannot find a single spot of any rust cancer anywhere on this car...the tub metal is extremely straight and nice and worthy of the highest level of restoration...and it's very hard to hide anything when it's painted high gloss black! The doors fit and close with a nice and tight click, and with the exception of a few minor scrapes, scratches, dings and maybe very slight surface rust on a paint chip, I would give the body high marks. The paint still looks respectable, and with some work the car could be a driver like I did for awhile in Texas. When purchased, the interior had the racing seats as pictured, and I haven't changed them. The targa top is unusual in that it is not the web type made of a collapsible steel frame and canvas like on most 911s, but is the very rare solid (one piece) type, used I'm told in racing applications to add rigidity to the chassis. I have been told that the hard top on the car is quite valuable as it was only produced in 1975 and would fit under the hood since there was no brake boost. One of the latches on the top is broken but still functions properly. I have the receipt from 1991 where the owner bought the hardtop for $1000. A viper alarm system was in it when purchased, but after a couple years it quit working...not sure why. When purchased, the car came with a stack of paperwork about an inch and a half high including all receipts, the original bill of sale from 1977, as well as "911 Turbo Carrera" manuals and some other paperwork. If you are considering a very cool investment car that should always withstand the test of time, this wide body with a targa top is certainly not something one would see everyday. It will need some TLC to get back on the road, but there's just nothing like driving a vintage 911. If there was an easy way that I could manage it, I'd keep it and spend a couple years taking the whole car apart and restore, repaint, re-upholster everything to concourse...in my opinion, it's frankly worth it, given that new 911s are over $100k. Restorations are expensive and time consuming, and doing military stuff and car fix up is not a possibility at this time, so it's either sell it or continue to store it. Note the opening bid with NO RESERVE. Cash and carry only, clean title in hand. $500 PayPal deposit required within 24 hours after auction ends. Car not released until completely paid for in full. No checks, no Nigerian bank cheques, promises, plastic, or other folly and time wasters. Sold as is, where is, no guarantee, no warranty, no refunds, I am not a dealer. I am selling it as NOT running...if you want to tinker and experiment on it, you'll have to do that after you buy it...I can't spend my Saturday watching someone work on it to help them decide if they really want to spend this kind of money to buy the bad boy - a rare wide body 911. Pickup and shipping is to be arranged and paid for entirely by the purchaser. I can arrange for my someone to be there to see it winched into the truck/trailer, but I will not ship. If no bids, I reserve the right under eBay rules to withdraw advertisement and car from auction. Once there is a bid, I will let the eBay auction finish until completion. ASK if you have questions...it costs me $$$$ to advertise, so please don't waste my time. If you provide me an email address, I can mail you a short video with sound showing me trying to start it. 803:::645:7:3::6::5 is my father's # (where car is located)The car must be paid for in full within 7 days.
