Vehicle Detail

You are looking at my 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser in remarkable, original condition and super low miles. I have owned this for almost 15 years and invested in only original Toyota parts. I drove about 55k miles on it over those years. I am the 3rd owner and the second owner had it for only 6 months. I have had the truck since 2000. It came from TX and I found it on some antiquated "cars for sale site" back in the day, not ebay. I cant remember the site and it is likely defunct. It took me over a year to find a good one. The guy I bought it from purchased it for his 16 year old son that same year and I guess his son's grades were horrible so he sold it to me and his son was pissed. Anyway, he bought it from a guy who was a lifer in the air-force who bought it new and lived in AZ. I was a part of the Toyota Land Cruiser association back then and located a guy within miles of the truck and asked him to look at it and report back. He told me if I did not buy it that he would. He had a 1989 FJ-62 at the time so he knew what's what. I took his word and bought it sight unseen. I had it flat-bed shipped to me. That cost me a little over $1000. I intended to drive it every day so I immediately called Jim Chenoweth who is a local guy in Ohio and renown nationally for his experience with these old LC's and carbs. He had it for 2 months (too long) and I asked him for a complete look and recommendation on what needed done as if it were his own. He did a carb job, tuned the top end and fixed a lot of seals and vacuum hoses lighting and many other minor tweaks and adjustments. That cost me just under $1600. He said it is the tightest driving and nicest FJ-60 he had ever seen. Again, no rust and no salt (at that time). I then took it to Zebart and had it undercoated etc. as I intended to drive it in the winter. That was $400 or so. After driving it a little bit I was experiencing a lot of wind noise so I had the dealership install 4 new Toyota door seals in the cabin as the originals were compressed. It helped a little bit. I drove it daily for 3 years and in the winter and loved every minute of it. The salt up here is brutal. The whole truck looked practically new when I bought it minus some serious paint fading on roof and hood from the hot AZ summers. The engine bay looked totally new when I bought it. Those 3 winters took a bit of a toll on the truck. It never saw salt again. The rust is still VERY minimal. I want to be hyper critical because I purchase a lot over the internet and I deplore inaccurate information. I will be straight with everything and a whole lot harder on her than most would be. I am a collector so details matter to me. The door seams are like-new which is what typically goes first. The only exception is the driver door which I was told was damaged by the first owner and was replaced with a used door from a northern state and repainted. It had rust on it when I bought it. That is the only seam that has rust and it is fairly significant on the inside under weather stripping and you can now begin see some on the outside. Again, other doors are crazy tight with zero rust. The upper clamshell tailgate door has rust around the wiper and under the window seal. Not horrible but it needs fixed. There are a couple light bubbles around the rear driver side rear fender. Not even close to being a big problem and very light and only on outside. Needs a new paint job and the light rust needs addressed. That was my plan for this Spring. The driver door will get water in it when you take it through a machine wash. The floor under driver has light surface rust. I noticed wetness on the carpet after a wash and lifted the carpet and found the surface rust. Needs a rust-inhibitor brushed on it or a pro's touch when the whole thing gets painted. The original wheels have some light rust and I have another set of factory wheels from a friend who bought an FJ 60 and changed them out from his '89 FJ62. They have a tiny bit of rust from being in my old barn that was uninsulated. They wheel clean up perfectly. Those wheels will come with the truck too. Much less rust on those and easily fixed by hand. It used to have a CB on it and a large antenna bulb on the rear passenger side by the gas cap area. I backed out one time in a hurry for work and did not realize that my 1994 Land Cruiser FJ 80 was outside and slightly dented both of them. I had the FJ 60 professionally repaired at Tansky Body Repair in Dublin, OH (no new panels) and they fixed and just repainted that quarter panel. You can still barely see the slightest indent in certain lights and 99.9% of people would never see it. I had the hole patched where the CB antenna ball was and that made me happy. I am a weird perfectionist so most people would not even be able to see it. The storage compartment console between the front seats has a CB holder attached to it and it is missing the cup holder where he wired in the CB. There is a small piece of black tape where the cup holder should be. The radio went out last year and it is a after market CD/Radio. I have not had it checked out. It has a removable face. Could just be a fuse but I have no idea. I also have the original Toyota radio with it in mint condition. That will go with the truck. I intended to put it back in during the paint job phase. I was noticing a tiny bit of road noise in the exhaust and had it checked at the dealership. They said the muffler and pipe was aging. I had them use a genuine toyota muffler and pipes from the motor back. That was all done around 2002. Stupid pricey on factory parts (especially this huge muffler system) but I wanted to keep it as original as possible. The AC went out the next year and I spent $1200 with Tansky trying to find the leak and they finally did. It still has Freon as this was right at the time they were doing the conversions. It blows very strong and very cold to this day. The radiator went out in 2007 or 2008 and I spent another enormous amount of money on a genuine Toyota radiator and it runs cool and strong. The air and Rad were done by a local Toyota dealership again, (Tansky). It has always been stored inside since I have owned it. I only had a 2 car garage for 20 years, so when it became my 3rd car and not a daily driver I had to pay $110 per month for 4 months out of each year to store it during the Fall/Winter. That was since 2003 for every year until last year when we moved to a place that has 5 car bays. The interior is crazy nice. Headliner is truly perfect and almost new looking. Driver seat has a subtle crack/tear in side from in and out over last 30 years. Driver cushion is compressed as expected but not like most you see. The fabric is crazy fresh, bright and super clean everywhere. I have never seen a better interior on one of these. I looked long and hard for a perfect truck. Carpet is pretty solid. Cargo area carpet is a little more distressed as the original owner was a bicyclist and he threw his bike in the back. No cracks or color fade on the dash. Another truly amazing thing coming from AZ. It did not come with mud flaps so I found some originals on ebay to the tune of $250 and installed them myself. I have bought new batteries over the years and this one is at least a couple years old but it still turns fast and easy. It is a true tank and super reliable. Tires are stock size Michelin and still has super deep tread. I intended to keep it stock and have the exterior painted and replace the driver side door and have all rust addressed this Spring. It is a great truck and I have frequently driven it during summer months and have had multiple people ask me if I would sell it. These trucks are few and far between and especially in my area. Especially in this condition. Local pickup is what I truly prefer. I will work with you if you need to have a highly reputable freight company come pick it up as long as you arrange everything and keep me in the loop. I will require a $3000 (non-refundable) deposit within 5 days of auction close. Will hold for only 3 weeks as you arrange pickup or delivery. I have too many toys and recently just bought a super nice '92 FJ80 (my favorite Land Cruiser) to play around with so I feel like I should go ahead and part with it. I hate selling it but I can't keep everything. Good luck and happy bidding. If you have other questions or need more pictures please let me know. You will be way more than delighted with this if you are looking for a bone stock, super solid FJ60 for your collection.
