If you have been searching for the ultimate Mk1 MR2 then this is your car! Where else are you going to find a nearly perfect all original, 1-owner Supercharged MR2 with only 83k original miles? Here is this cars story: This car was sold brand new at Rodland Toyota in Everett, WA on January 18th 1990 to its one and only owner, a VERY particular Boeing engineer. This car was his prized possession and was only driven on nice days. He loved this car as if it were his child, not even allowing anyone to wear shoes in the car. When I test drove the car I was the only other person other than the Toyota mechanic drive the car! For 100+ high resolution photos go to: Toyota MR2 Photo Album. For a 8 minute complete Exterior, Interior, Engine and Compartment video tour, follow this link: Exterior Condition: Overall 9.8/10 Paint- The car is wearing 95% original paint that is nearly perfect, please see the photos. I have had the car polished to the VERY highest standard, no swirl marks, no imperfections. Truly unreal! I have used a paint meter on the car and it measures 3.5-4.5 mils (consistent with original paint) on every panel with exception of the right rear quarter panel. It measures between 6-8 mils in the area from the mid-point of the quarter to the rear underneath the pinstripe, the rest of the quarter meters 4 mils. The original owner says it has never been painted. I believe it was done at the dealership or port probably due to a blemish since there is no evidence of repair. Bear in mind people cannot believe this car when they see it! There are some very minor micro-pitting type chips in the hood and lower valance, none of any size or that would show in photos. Frankly I can’t figure out how he drove it without getting any real chips or dings? There is one spot on the right rear quarter that has one touched up chip ~5mm in size. Body- All the doors, trunk, hood, hatch, etc are wearing the original VIN tags. All the bodylines are perfect and all the original bolts on the car have never had a wrench on them. I had my favorite Paintless Dent Repair guy (PDR) take out the couple small door dings, it is laser straight. The Car Fax is of course perfect and I am happy to send it to any potential buyer. Glass- All glass is perfect; everything is OE including the windshield. Wheels and Tires- The original wheels are pristine, no damage, no curb rash. Tires are less than 1 year old and have under 1,000 miles on them. A note about rust: For those of you not familiar with the climate in Washington, it is the perfect place to buy a car from. Our temperate climate means that we rarely see snow and we use no harsh chemicals. As a result if you crawl under this car every last piece of metal, nut, bolt, etc is like NEW. When we say no rust, it doesn’t mean there is no rust SHOWING, but that truly there is no corrosion anywhere on the car. Additionally we do not have the harsh sunlight or heat so it is easy on the paint, rubber and interior pieces. In addition this car has never seen bad weather, take a look at the engine compartment, can you believe the metal and the fasteners? Like new! Interior: Overall Condition 9.8/10 You will not believe the interior on this car, it’s almost like new. The rest of the interior is likewise perfect. It of course has never been smoked in, carried pets, nor even been ate in. I got my halogen spotlight out and scrutinized the interior. I could not find a flaw in the dash (no cracks or fading), the carpet, the headliner, door panels, etc. etc. The only item that caught my eye is the felt material that lines the cubby on top of the dash has faded slightly to navy blue instead of black. If I were to show the car I would want to find a set of original factory floor mats as the originals show some wear and I might replace the shift boot/knob (not torn, just a little dry). The original T-top headliner inserts are present (not faded at all!) as are the storage bags behind the seats. EVERYTHING in the car works (all dash lights, interior lights, horn, HVAC controls, stereo, cruise control, wipers, rear window defrost, etc.). Mechanical: The car only has 83k miles and it’s a Toyota so not a lot to report here. The car starts up perfectly from cold, does not smoke, leak or burn any oil. It builds boost smoothly from about 1500rpm and revs freely to 7500rpm. The transmission shifts very well and the clutch engages smoothly. It brakes, steers, and drives 100% the way it should. This car has been taken care of and it shows. I feel confident saying that you could dig through the car extensively and not find real fault. I feel like I should tell you more, but I don’t know what else to say? Originality- The car is 100% original with two exceptions: The original radio was swapped for a Pioneer head unit (in factory location, nothing cut or modified) and an Ungo alarm was installed with remote entry. I have an original Toyota radio that will go with the car. I thought about removing the alarm but its a nice convenience since it remotely locks and unlocks the doors (you forget what a pain that is since every car in the last 15 years come with keyless...) Background on the MR2SUPERCHARGED: This might be review for some, but for those of you not familiar with these cars, here goes: The MR2 was first produced in 1985. The Supercharged version was only made in 1988 and 1989. Believe it or not these cars were only sold in Japan and the United States. I tried to find out how many were produced and could not find reliable numbers. The 1989 model is the most desirable because it is the only Mk1 MR2 that has a rear sway bar other than 1985 and also features the LED 3rd brake light. 1989 is also the lowest production year of the AW11 with just 2,537 Normally Aspirated and SC models built. Best estimates are less than 20% were Supercharged so that’s under 500 of these cars were ever built, in both 5-speed manual and the less desirable automatic iterations. So how many 1-owner, all original, pristine, manual transmissions examples exist in the world… a very rare car indeed! The specs are on the car are as follows: Horsepower- 145@6400 rpm vs. 115@6600rpm non-supercharged. Torque- 140lb/ft @4000rpm vs. 100lb/ft @4800rpm (40% increase!) Weight- 2494 lbs (talk about a great hp/weight ratio!) 0-60 time- 6.82 seconds (Toyota) Skidpad- .92g (Toyota) MPG- 24 City/ 30 Highway Original Price MSRP- $19293.00 The Supercharged Cars came fairly well equipped; the only available options were Air Conditioning, Cruise Control, Power Windows and Locks, and Leather. This car has everything but leather, which is a bonus since it doesn’t seem the leather on these cars holds up as well as the cloth. I have the original books for the car, as well as the original window sticker (see photo). I have also photographed the original Toyota advertisement for the car. Overall, I would be surprised if someone were able to find a nicer Mk1 Supercharged MR2. Please do not forget this car is 25years old, but it is an amazing specimen. I have tried to tell you as much as I can about the car. I feel confident that any buyer would not be disappointed in the car. Please feel free to ask any questions via email. The fine print: I will not disclose the reserve, so please don’t ask. A non-refundable deposit of $2,000 is due within 48 hours of auction close.
