Vehicle Detail

I have a very solid, strong running, 1981 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler up for auction. The previous owner stated that his wife was driving the Jeep and the thermostat didn't open or the water pump went out, he didn't know for sure which one, but she continued to drive the Jeep to try and get home and overheated the original 4 cylinder engine to the point that it quit running and was basically ruined. Thus the original 4-cylinder/4-speed was replaced with a rebuilt Chevrolet 350 V8 engine mated to a 3-speed transmission with a new clutch and pressure plate that was already prepared to go into a CJ7 that he was in the process of restoring. The engine specs are as follows: 350 c.i.d. 2-bolt main block bored .030 over stock with new forged flat top pistons and total seal rings installed, new oil pump and double roller timing set, HEI distributor, the heads were completely gone thru with new valve seals and a 3-angle valve job. The cam is a slightly oversized hydraulic unit that has a little "thump" to it, but is not radical at all. It has a quadra-jet 4 barrell carb and true dual exhaust out the back. This Jeep would be 50 state legal on emmissions, because it has catalytic converters on both exhaust pipes. The Jeep sounds and runs great with no issues. It does not smoke, rattle or leak any fluids at all and runs very strong. This Jeep has had 1 repaint in 2005 and is extremely solid for a 1981 Jeep with the only significant rust being in the drivers side floor pan. It looks like the padding under the original mat may have held moisture and rusted thru a spot under the mat on the drivers side. The passengers side has surface rust only under the mat. This is the only place I have found that is rusted thru on this Jeep (see pics). A patch panel has been installed in this spot. Everything works on this Jeep. All the lights, heater controls, fog lights, wipers, radio, interior lights, all exterior lights, everything ! ! Transmission, transfer case, manual hubs all work as they should with no problems. Tires are a matching set of 31x10.50x15 with 80% tread on them. This Jeep would be fine to drive as is with no problems or a perfect candidate for a complete restoration given the very small amount of rust. Mileage is correct on the body at 62,000 . It still has the original wood side boards on the bed. The CJ8's are getting rare and the prices are appreciating daily. This one has a low reserve compared to others on ebay. You can come to Bassett Va., pay for it, take the title and drive this one home. Feel free to email any questions. This Jeep is sold as is where is with no warranty implied. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time as it is for sale locally. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. On Oct-30-14 at 19:47:34 PDT, seller added the following information: Engine was put in at 45,668 miles and the Jeep has 62,202 miles on it now. 16,534 miles on the engine, clutch and pressure plate. New battery also. Inside the bed has some surface rust only. No rusted thru places at all. It does have a few bubbles and small surface rust places on the body (see pics). This Jeep is ready to drive for the winter without doing anything to it if you want to. On Oct-31-14 at 05:26:12 PDT, seller added the following information: On Oct-31-14 at 05:29:05 PDT, seller added the following information: Its a picture of a 304 V8 in a burgundy Jeep that was put in this ad by mistake. It is another Jeep. Sorry for the mistake. On Nov-03-14 at 06:25:54 PST, seller added the following information: I've had a couple of questions as to what this Jeep needs to be road worthy. It needs titled and tagged in the buyers name and thats all. It is ready to be driven just like it sits. The 4 wheel drive works fine and its ready for snow/winter/sunshine whatever you want to throw at it. Come in pay for it and drive it home.On Nov-03-14 at 10:08:49 PST, seller added the following information: I had a brand new set of 4 shocks that went with the Jeep also. I will have those installed before the auction ends.
