Vehicle Detail

Hi There. Up for action is my 1963 Corvair Corvan 95 camper special van. This van is very original and is in extremely good shape. I purchased it in the Napa Valley last summer, and drove it 1000 miles home to North Idaho. It was a beautiful ride. This van has 75,000 original miles after 51 years! And it is very obvious that this is real. I have always planned to totally restore this van, but I have been diagnosed with a physical disease that keeps me from being able to do it myself. So I am going to sell it. This is a great chance to own a beautiful and unique "Hippie Van" that absolutely gets more attention than any of the old cars and trucks I have owned in my life. And I have owned/restored many of them. It blows my mind how everyone freaks out about this cool little van. Men, Women, Old and Young. Everybody does a double take and a thumbs up! And with very little work, this can be turned into an absolute showpiece. History: This van was always from Northern California. They guy I bought it from was the second owner. The van was originally sold in Santa Rosa at a dealer called Commanche Chevrolet. Apparently it was purchased by a winery owner that used it for wine tastings, etc. in the area. It was always kept inside, and was just not used a lot. Interior: This camper van option includes a gas stove, and icebox, and a sink. The walls of the interior have wooden cabinets for storage. The main seating area in the back has a platform with several large and comfy mattress pads that can be made into a bed or seating. The "cockpit" is amazing. The original seat cover obviously has been used, but it is in generally great shape. The entire dashboard area including the steering wheel, radio, gauges and glove box all look like they have been restored. But they haven't! The Heater, AM radio, and Horn all feel and sound like they are new. I guess that they had almost never been used. I have owned maybe 25 old 1960's-70's Chevy trucks. The functionality of rolling the windows up and down is the best in this Corvan than any other I have seen. Exterior: The paint is original, and shows its age. If you were to wax it , it would shine nicely. But there are scratches here and there, and there is a rumpled set of small dents right at the driver's side door handle. (see pic). But there is absolutely no rust, and the body is very straight. This particular van has a special chrome trim option, and it has the extended "deluxe" rear light trim that you don't see very often. I always envisioned painting this in a metallic turquoise blue with the roof and center "stripe" staying white. Drivetrain: The motor runs great. I drove it 1000 miles home from California. It went 70+ MPH and got 20+MPG. I have only put about 1000 additional miles on it since then, cruising around town watching everybody hoot and holler! The transmission and clutch work well. The only thing that is not absolutely perfect about the clutch system: If you are at a dead stop and just pop the clutch to get moving, it can do a "chatter". I am sure this is just an adjustment involved with the rear engine/ clutch setup. I quickly figured out how to slightly rev the gas and slowly engage the clutch at first, then let 'er rip. It's no problem, but it's something to take a look at, just the same. This is a very special van and is a lot of fun. Please let me know if you have any questions. My name is Tommy and I will be available to answer any questions that you might have. Good luck!
