Vehicle Detail

Vehicle History: Unknown until mid 70's. Purchased at that time by a gentleman who drove it gently, made no changes or repairs, and garaged it during the winter. Purchased in mid 90's by owner immediately previous to me, who also used it very little and garaged it. I purchased the car in Massachusetts in September of 2012, put it in winter storage, and then brought it to Vermont in the spring of 2013. What I have had done to the car: new headlights, convertible top hoses, tie rods in front end, rebuilt carburetor, stereo conversion, new speakers, installation of true dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers, new wheels and tires. (I do not have the old wheels). Car has power steering, manual (drum) brakes. I did not want to cut doors for speakers, so I attached one to the bottom of the glove box and stuck one under the seat, so that they would be impermanent and easily removed. I have long since dispensed with the alarm and aftermarket radio (seen in one photo) and I wrapped the steering wheel with a neoprene pad and then wrapped that in leather to soften the grip when driving. The good: Well, just look at it. It's a vintage convertible with power steering and a V8 engine. It gets a lot of attention. It fires right up, it runs smoothly, stops well, shifts well. It's a reliable car, I feel comfortable driving anywhere, I've taken it on trips going 200 miles each way with no problems. Everything works except the heater and the cigarette lighter. 289 V8, transmission shifts well, runs smooth. Mostly original, except for the Flowmaster dual exhaust and the wheels. The original AM radio retains its appearance but was actually converted into a modern stereo on the inside, with a cord that can be connected to an MP3 player. Power top functions perfectly. Hood, quarter panels, door, fenders, etc all solid and straight. Currently registered, insured in Vermont with a passing inspection sticker. The bad: Please do not be fooled by the pictures, the paint is not that nice. It is original paint and in bright light looks every one of its 48 years. It's not a show car. There are scratches and dings. The top is all there, but leaks a bit and could stand to be replaced in the next few years. The car is straight, the panels line up well, the fenders, quarter panels floors etc are solid, but whoever owns the car next year (me or someone else) will probably need to have some welding done underneath in the right front. Got a sticker this year with that issue, but maybe next time they won't be flexible, so it would be good to address that. Let me be clear on this issue: The car passed inspection with the rust. As you can see in the pictures, the body panels are solid, and the underside of the car is in great shape for 48 years in New England, with potentially some of those early years in the snow. The last photo shows that the great condition of the rest of the undercarriage does not extend to the front right area. I had it priced for repair twice. Once was during the inspection, which it passed. The second time was when I had the carb rebuilt at another garage. The first guy said $800, the second guy said $1000. I haven't had it done yet, because I live in central Vermont, and the local places are all collision centers that want/know how to work on modern cars. I would really only feel comfortable taking it to a place that has people old enough to have driven and worked on these cars, and in my case, that's a trip to the Boston area. So I have taken the cost of getting this repair done into my setting of a reserve price. Also, like an idiot, I backed into a tree just after I bought it. I dented the rear bumper, kind of visible in photos, but didn't hurt the car. I picked up a spare bumper on craiglist but never bothered to install it. It comes with the car. The interior is original, which is to say old. The seats and carpet are due for replacement, but clean up reasonably well except for front seat bench which is splitting because of frequent use, visible in picture. Mileage: I have it listed at 93,500. I was told 89k original by previous owner, and he wrote that on the original bill of sale. But he also said he was guessing. I made the mistake of being that vague at the Massachusetts RMV when I registered the car, so they wrote 189k on the title. Which it may be. I doubt it, though, because it just doesn't seem that worn out. She runs strong. Title is clear. A word about value. Because I am not desperate to sell this car, I have no intention of selling it below what I paid for it. That is my reserve price. That is a good bit less than it's assessed value, which was $11,500 before the dual exhaust, wheels, tires, carburetor and tie rods. I will provide that documentation along with a folder of receipts to the new owner. Even $11,500 is less than the insurance company and NADA think it's worth. However, the market may not bear that out, it's almost winter, it does need a little work, and so I'm being fair and realistic. I reserve the right to end the auction early. PLEASE do not select Buy It Now unless you have either come to see the car in person, or are completely satisfied that I have been forthcoming and you're prepared to come pay for and collect the car. I will not ship this car. You must make arrangements to pick it up in Northfield, Vermont, about 10 miles south of Montpelier, 45 miles south of Burlington. Obviously, there will be no return accepted. Anyone who wishes can contact me to come see the car, and I am of course happy to answer any questions. I have included pictures that show the real condition of the car so that there should be no mystery. Many of those pictures were taken today in its current unwashed, not very clean, couple of leaves scattered inside condition. I did that for the sake of honesty. Please do not waste my time in return. Thank you.On Oct-21-14 at 21:07:27 PDT, seller added the following information: Just a quick addition in light of bidding process: If you have feedback of 10 or less, please contact me before bidding. On Oct-21-14 at 21:19:02 PDT, seller added the following information: p.s. I didn't have the VIN # at work when I listed the item. It is 6H45C110217. Won't help you much because I don't think you can look up VIN numbers this old, but there it is anyway. On Oct-23-14 at 21:05:52 PDT, seller added the following information: I have lowered the Buy It Now and perhaps more importantly the reserve price a reasonable amount to encourage a sale. Thanks.
