If you're looking for a Chevelle to restore here is the one. This is not just a date code correct but an actual 1968 SS 396 Convertible with the original engine, transmission, and rear end that came in the car! The partial VIN # is stamped on the block and it still has the original Muncie 4 speed and twelve bolt rear end. Even better still, this car came from the factory with deluxe interior from a Buick Skylark. There was around a two month period in 1968 when the factory ran low on interiors for these cars (supposedly because of riots because of the Martin Luther King Jr. assassination) so they used other GM interiors. It can be decoded as original by the data plate. That makes this car a little extra special. The engine has been rebuilt and I have included a picture with the valve cover off to show how clean it is. The car is very solid. It will need some small patches on the bottom rear of both quarters and work on the drivers fender and passenger door and some small places along the upper windshield area. All have been shown in pictures. No rocker rust, trunk just has surface rust and retains a lot of its original splatter paint. No cowl rust. No wheel lip rust. No frame rust other than surface rust. The top even works when the switch is bypassed. (bad top switch) I do have a new in the box SS hood that goes with the car. The old one just wasnt worth saving. This would be a big money car fixed and is about as good a car to start with as you will find any more. There is no exhaust on the car but I have fired it up with open headers and it ran great. It has been switched to HEI. I do have the original split bench front seat and rear seat. It will all need to be taken to the springs and redone. Tires will hold enough air to get it on a trailer. The original color combo was Butternut yellow with a black top and black deluxe interior. It has had two repaints since the factory and then a thin coat of urethane primer you see in the pictures. I expect there will be lots of questions about the car so please send them through ebay so I can share them with everyone. I will also add to the description if I think of anything I missed. I do have a buy it now on the auction and the reserve is set quite a bit lower so if you don't like the buy it now price feel free to bid. You still may win. Please don't ask if I will take less money. The reserve is set at my keep it price and I think it is set very low for what this car is. I think even at the buy it now price you are getting a good deal especially if you consider that you do not have to track down any drivetrain parts, what is there is original to the car and the fact that it is only one of a handful of Chevelles that came with Skylark Deluxe interior from the factory.
