This is a 1984 230GE with VIN 46023917033943. This vehicle was purchased in 1984 and legally imported by the rules in place at that time. Over it's lifetime it has been well maintained and I continue to use it for occasionally just for short trips around town. I've done continuous maintenance and many upgrades to keep it looking good and driving well. Most recently a completely new air conditioning and heating system was installed and keeps the interior very comfortable even in very hot weather. Dynamat (generic brand) sound insulation has been installed in all doors and additional thermal insulation installed in above the headliner much like current models of the G Class. The insulation combined with Bilstein shocks, new motor mounts, and new transmission mounts results in a very quiet and controlled driving experience. The steering dampener and tie rods have been upgraded to improve handling. The complete interior has been reupholstered in a comfortable and durable tweed type fabric. The floor liners are original Mercedes that have been reconditioned and have removable custom black carpet mats over them. The dash and steering wheel are in excellent condition as are all of the gages and switches. The 30 year old clock still keeps near perfect time. The center console in also in excellent condition with both shifter boots replaced. Original rear jump seats have been completely reconditioned with powder coated hardware. They fold up and original Mercedes straps hold them out of the way. The front seats can recline and have new foam installed in the base cushions. The under seat storage compartments are functional and have been restored with a durable black powder coat finish. A custom made car cover and miscellaneous documents and spare/old parts are included. The odometer is currently reading 30267 which I and my mechanic believe is actually 130,267, but I have not been able to verify this. The overall condition of the vehicle is great, but the engine does have high mileage and will at some point likely require additional maintenance. I have never driven this Gwagen more than 10 miles at a time and just around town. It doesn't use oil as far as I can tell and there are seldom any drips on the garage floor. If it sits for a month or more it may put out a bit of smoke for the first mile or so but then it's fine. This only happens when I've not driven it for long periods of time. The transmission shifts smoothly and the four wheel drive works well. The differential locks (diff lockers) need maintenance. I've never used them and apparently neither did the previous owner, so my mechanic tells me they need fluid and likely new O-rings. The non-working diff locks do not effect driving in any way and I have simply never had any desire to use them. The lock in the left side passenger door doesn't work with the key. It locks and unlocks from inside and opens (if unlocked) normally from the outside. I'm including a spare door handle and lock that most locksmiths can rekey and easily install. I am selling this because I seldom ever drive it and it mostly sits in the garage. I have two other vehicles that are my daily drivers. It's not good for a vehicle to just sit (plus I pay taxes and insurance) so I'm putting it up for auction. Following is a list of NEW components installed in the last 3 years: clutch and pressure plate, engine mounts, transmission mounts, Bilstein shocks, rear bearings/seals, air conditioning/heating system, alternator, clutch master and slave cylinders, brake master cylinder, fuel lever sensor, stereo with Bluetooth, spark plugs/wires/distributor, heavy duty steering dampener, tie rods, all exterior light lenses, headlights, LED 3rd brake light, radio antenna, radiator/heater hoses, rear view mirror, Hella fog lights (original housings restored), interior door latches, headliner, LED interior lights, Mercedes badges/stars/logos, door weather seals (4 side doors), gage lights, front left-right-center speakers. Following items have been checked and are functional: headlights hi/lo, fog lights, parking lights, brake lights, headlight washer, windshield washer, rear window washer, windshield wipers, rear window wipers, turn signals, hazard flasher, air conditioner, heater, blower lo/med/hi, rear window heater, clock, gages, gage lighting, radio am/fm/Bluetooth, manual shift 1-2-3-4 gears, four wheel drive, seat recliners, back seat folding, jump seat folding. Items needing attention: Differential lockers need servicing (does not effect driving in 2WD or 4WD). Rear door on driver side needs to be rekeyed, otherwise works fine (spare door handle and lock included with auction). Battery (Interstate MT-93, 750CCA) was installed spring 2011 and cranks fine. IMPORTANT: This is a 30 year old vehicle with a high mileage engine. It is only used infrequently and for short local trips. It is not driven at high speeds and for long distances. This vehicle many not pass state or local inspections or emissions testing. You are purchasing this vehicle "as is." Personal inspection and test drive is strongly encouraged.
