Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 2003 Boxster S, Midnight Blue with Cinnamon leather interior, 6-speed, Litronic headlights, lots of options. I purchased this car used but in factory new condition in the Fall of 2003. From the beginning I loved the styling, the handling, and how fun it was to drive but it really needed more power to complement the very competent chassis. After researching engine conversion options in 2005 I sent the car to Roock Autosports in Atlanta originally to transplant in a 3.6L 996 motor in. However shortly after the car arrived the new 997 model of the 911 debuted and along with it the larger 3.8L motor. We decided to go with the 3.8L Carrera S motor instead and a new motor was purchased from Porsche to use in the conversion. The transplant included custom headers (a work of art in and of themselves) along with high performance catalytic converters coupled to the stock muffler. With the added 100 HP, and more importantly lots of extra torque, this car is a blast to drive. The drivetrain is otherwise stock and has performed flawlessly for the past 9 years since the conversion. The exhaust setup has a nice growl that'll remind you of the 911 GT3 RSR leaving the pit stall at Le Mans but without being overly loud. I replaced the factory shifter with the much improved 997 unit that offers smoother and more precise shifting. Lastly, I upgraded the stereo system including the head unit, amps, and speakers. Cosmetically the car is virtually indistinguishable from a 986 Boxster S and that is what I wanted - a sleeper. I installed clear marker lights and a couple small decals (easily removable) bear the Roock RSB 370 moniker. The gauge faces were also replaced by Roock with custom white-faced gauges bearing the Roock name. This car was driven regularly and for a couple years was my daily driver. The paint is good but does have fine surface scratches and stone chips. There is a deep gouge in the left rear bumper cover from a parking lot altercation that I've touched up but you can still see up close. In addition there are some small marks and a scratch in the leather dash. She's beautiful but not cosmetically perfect. She still runs great and I've performed regular maintenance but otherwise haven't had to fix a thing. I do love this car but it's time for me to downsize so I'm selling and I've set a low reserve to make sure she sells. On Oct-03-14 at 04:43:28 PDT, seller added the following information: 8/3 UPDATE: I wanted to add a few more facts to address some common questions I'm getting on the car. How are the tires? The tires are Goodyear Eagle F1 and were replaced at 12,492 miles. I just went a checked them with a tread depth gauge and they have 7mm/8mm depth front and 4mm/5mm rear depth. What were the stereo mods? I found the receipt from the installer and it was an Alpine CDA9835 CD/MP3 head unit, XM Commander, MB Quartz Premium 6.5" mid-bass and 4" speakers, and dynamat door kit. I actually don't see a separate amp listed but thought that was part of the install. In any case it sounds light years better than the Porsche OEM system. How many miles since the engine conversion? Unfortunately I didn't log the exact mileage when the conversion was done but it was approximately at the 10,000 mile mark. So the new engine conversion has ~20,000 miles on it and has been rock solid. Any issues with overheating? I've driven this car in lots of hot humid stop and go traffic with the AC running and never had a problem with the coolant temps climbing. Finally, folks have asked for more interior pics and I'll get those and post them later today. Thanks for all the interest! On Oct-05-14 at 07:44:53 PDT, seller added the following information: One more update. A couple folks have asked for the engine number and if it is the earlier smaller IMS bearing. Yes it is the early IMS bearing, at least according to what I read on the Internet as far as engine numbers. I didn't realize this was a concern with the 3.8 until a couple folks asked about it yesterday so I did some looking. The car still runs great and you can decide how much of the Internet hype is real but I want to make sure everyone has all the information to make an informed decision. The engine number is M97/0168507185 and I'll add a pic of the number plate.
