2004 Volvo V70RYV1SJ52YX42416423118,xxx milesTitanium Gray Metallic, tan leather interior2.5 liter turbocharged five-cylinder, 300 hpManual six-speed transmissionTwo owners from new Many more, full-resolution photos:https://picasaweb.google.com/105268812019894088012/2004VolvoV70R02?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCOv2l_3Zq8uN7wE&feat=directlink Major Issues (more info below on each):- Rear drive is not working, so this car is front-drive only -- this is a common problem and fixable of course, but it’s been this way for years and practically has been no issue.- Wheel finish is very bad -- I’d recommend replacement with OEM wheels.- Various minor things, please read the description below. OverviewI bought this car in May 2011 with 93k miles, after an year-long search for a six-speed V70R. My wife has been the primary driver for the three years and 25k miles we’ve had it. I have the original window sticker (showing car has Premium Package, Touring Package and Climate Package), and three factory remote keys. I don’t have the service records from the first owner, but as you can see from the Carfax, he was pretty religious about taking the car to the dealer, even after the warranty expired. I do my own work, so the most of the records you’d get from me are just parts receipts. Engine+ No issues; pulls strong, no leaks, no lights or warnings.+ Oil changed annually with Mobil 1. Transmission and Driveline+ Clutch takeup smooth and positive. I’ve not replaced the clutch and I don’t believe the previous owner did either, so this could go any day.- Shifting is very balky when cold. Seems to be a common issue according to the forums. I put in Royal Purple 70-90 thinking this might change things but had no effect. Shifting action is better when warmed up but still pretty stiff.- No rear drive. That’s right, I discovered, like many others, that the bevel gear has failed and all power is sent only to the front wheels. I’ve never been motivated to fix this because it seems to have no practical effect on performance. Search the forums for this issue, but you can see the fix falls somewhere between installing a $180 part in your driveway (not easy; need a hydraulic press and lots of time, expertise and patience), or have a dealer install a brand new bevel gear ($1800 for the part, plus a lot of labor). Brakes, Suspension, Steering, Tires+ Brake pads replaced with all OEM parts in last year. + I replaced all four electrically controlled “4-C” struts with OEM parts in June 2013. The three firmness settings on the struts work as expected; actually the difference between the three settings is quite dramatic.+ New IPD heavy duty lower control arm installed in January 2014, which cured a bad wandering issue. Now tracks straight, no pulling, no spooky wander.+ Tires good: Goodyear Eagle F1 AS installed at 112k miles in October 2013. - Still occasionally a sloppy clunk from the front suspension over road imperfections; I never got to the bottom of this. Interior+ Overall ok shape. - Driver’s seat leather is fairly well cracked all over, and some leather surfaces, especially in the back, are a little dirty and dried out. Keep in mind this car was used to carry kids. No pets though. - The tan carpeting could use a good steam clean.- Cup holder cover is loose and otherwise pretty banged up looking. Electrical+ Wipers, windows, washers, mirror, lights, signals, locks, cruise control, horn, power seats, sunroof, all work fine.+ Original radio sounds pretty good, including internal CD changer, one line of pixels occasionally appears burnt out, but then reappears.. + AC blows cold, heat blows warm, seats heat up, vents all work.- Seat memory on driver’s seat doesn’t seem to work anymore (it did when we bought the car). That is the buttons 1-3 don’t do anything. However, the seat still remembers where it was last based on the key used to unlock the car, so in practice it works.- One foglight does not light up. I’ve never even looked into this. Body+ Nice original paint, ok shine. Front bumper appears to be resprayed, but not by me.+ I’m not aware that it has had any major body work or ever been in an accident.+ Always a California car, rust-free.- A fair number of dents, chips, scratches and scrapes. I tried to take pictures of the biggest ones. This was mainly driven by my wife, and she tended to bang it into things. - The photos maybe look a little better than the car does in person. This is a 20-footer.- Three of the wheels are pretty much trashed cosmetically (don't appear to be bent though). The previous owner had them resprayed, but it appears not to have adhered well, and the result is any curbing has caused the finish to come off. The amazing thing is the OEM wheels are still available at $183 each. See: http://www.tascaparts.com/oe-volvo/30647396. I would replace these if we were keeping the car. On Sep-30-14 at 09:13:06 PDT, seller added the following information: Add'l info: Current mileage is 118,600 or so (300 mi more than shown in pictures, which were taken Sept 6). Typo above, I did replace both lower control arms in Jan 2014, not just one. Questions? Please ask. On Oct-07-14 at 06:01:20 PDT, seller added the following information: Maybe some confusion about the AWD issue. The car is perfectly drivable as-is, just like a normal (but powerful) FWD Volvo S60 or V70. I only discovered the issue (a couple years ago) that the rear wheels were not being driven when starting from a stop on a slippery steep hill, and found that the front wheels spun. The issue is not detectible in normal driving. Doesn't need to be fixed, though you may want to.
