On Sep-30-14 at 20:27:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional engine information others have requested: Block casting number: 3946052, dated 4/17/69 Heads: 3946074, dated 4/15/69 and 4/17/69 Engine build date: 6/27 at the Tonawanda engine plant Engine has the correct part numbered starter, starter brace, alternator (restored), alternator pulley, distributor, water pump and pulley, fan, fan clutch, and the various brackets and hardware. Here’s where it gets interesting. The engine suffix code is CZT. The three letter code was first used by Chevrolet for 1970. I have looked through many references to try to decode this, but have not found this code documented anywhere. Most of the other CZ- codes are for 1970 454 Corvettes. The gentleman I purchased the engine from had owned it since 1970, and had never installed it in a car. When I bought the engine, I discovered it had an LS-6 454 crank and pistons (with GM part numbers stamped on them). This engine could have possibly been intended as a 454ci version of the ZL-1 for the 1970 model year that got cancelled. (A 1970 454 ZL-1 Corvette?) The engine has been professionally rebuilt and balanced by a race engine builder. Has 10.75:1 compression ratio, with a hydraulic Comp Cam. (Comp rated it for 550HP in this configuration). Engine runs strong on premium pump gas. Easy to drive in town, but more than half throttle in first or second and the tons of torque will push you back in the seat and smoke the tires. Engine has been tested on a chassis dyno. We were unable to get a maximum horsepower reading, as it overwhelmed the dyno. It has so much torque (at least 350 lb/ft above 2700 RPM) that the tires were having a hard time getting traction on the dyno drum. So we only ran it up to 5100 RPM, and with the wheels slipping, the power was still rising and was approaching 400HP. That equates to 500HP at the crank. Obviously, there was more there.
