Vehicle Detail

I have a nice old 1956 Buick Special that I can no longer walk by without doing something with it. She needs lots of work, but the body lines are very straight with some rust-through, but all easily repairable. I purchased this car with the hopes of restoring it myself.... but as the story goes... have too many projects... and a wife who keeps reminding me of it.... This is such a good looking car .... such possibility... I will include some pictures of how I wanted to restore it. I was debating between doing a resto-rod, or trying my hand at a rat-rod (but the car has too many good parts for me to want to mess it up). For those who want to restore it to original, it has not been modified in any way. Nice thing - it is a Buick - you will not see yourself coming and going like in those Chevy's and Fords! Great news is that most of the parts are there (including trim) so very little junk-yard hunting! It was a great starting point for someone with the know-how. I will try to describe everything to the best of my ability. Please feel free to write with any specifics that i missed. The GoodAs you can see from the pictures, the body lines are straight and most all of the sheetmetal is in good condition. The motor starts right up and drives around the farm nice. Obviously i have not had it on the roads, but she moves about wellTransmission works wellRolls easily - nothing seized up or bound, and the brakes work98% of the trim is present and most is in pretty good shapeDash is all there - needs polishing and paintShe has REALLY cool body lines - and those beautiful Buick Ports!!A lot of the glass is in pretty good shape. A few cracks but all solidFrame is very solid It's a COUPE The BadThere is a fair amount of surface rust - but i sanded a few of the spots and there is lots of good metal underneathThe main spots that need repair are (see pics):Floor pans (front). Back have just a few spots that can be spot filled/weldedDriver's side rockerDriver door lowerLip of the hood (the hood overall is in great shape!, but the lip rusted through - easy repair)Front bumper pretty rustySmall holes in trunkPassenger side rear fender has a spot of bondo Lower front fender and rear driver fender need repairSeats - present - but need complete recover. Whole interior needs restoreDash needs restoration - all parts are there including radio, but needs polished & paintedIf i were keeping it, i would be rebuilding the engine. Brakes are very softStarter sometimes works - needs rebuildOtherThe car has manual seats, windows, etc. It is the base model I believeI have a clean title in hand!!I do not know if the engine is original, but if you can tell me how to identify, i will do my bestI have the car for sale locally, so reserve the right to end the auction earlyHear the engine at: http://youtu.be/tQ2nJA4rlhM?list=UUEuJZpC8v0Hts-7lOAFHqWA Best of luck to you all in your bidding. Please do not buy and expect you will be showing this in the parade next week. It needs work - lots of it. But as I said, it has very good lines, lots of good metal, and most all of the original parts. Great starter for someone who knows how to work on cars.
