Vehicle Detail
Here's your chance to bid and possibly own on one of the nicest, truly all ORIGINAL 1979 Fiat Spider to come on eBay in quite some time so don't let this ONE get away... She has only seen three owners over the course of her 35 years of pleasure cruising and has been meticulously cared for as can be seen from all the detailed photos. It is also obvious that she has been used very sparingly over the years and only brought out of the garage only on the nicest of days to be fully enjoyed with the top down the way it was designed and built for! And yes you are correct when reading the mileage is 100% correct and has been documented! She runs as good as she looks and is a true turn key gem that is begging to be driven more. She still wears her original paint which has been cared for over the years and still looks new with a few nicks here and there, after all she is 35 years young. The interior is also all ORIGINAL and in wonderful condition. The vinyl seats are soft and supple with a two very small punctures that looks like it could have been caused by a set of keys. The dash, radio console and lower console are absolutely perfect! A very are feat in itself... Not a single crack or scratch which is amazing considering how often when you look at many that come to market they almost always have cracks and all the reproduction pieces or caps do no justice to the original. Another indication as to the care, attention of preservation and low mileage of this beauty. Along with all the original interior are the cornrow carpets that are in very nice condition and under those you find all the original tar sound deadening material and SOLID floors with no sign of rust ever or past repairs. Again, another amazing sign of her originality and not like the average car you will find with rusty floors or poor patch jobs. The only thing you will find missing are the "pockets" from the lower kick panels which were removed at some point in her lifetime so very large '70/'80s era speaker boxes could be installed. I would assume they may have even been original to the car or installed shortly after the car left the dealer because they were Pioneer units that matched the original 8 track head unit which is period correct. I did remove them as I didn't care for how they looked and being 6'3" could use all the lower leg room possible not to mention they didn't sound all that well to be honest. Everything in the interior works as it should and the way it did the day she left the factory. All switches, buttons, lights, levers and knobs function perfectly. All outside lights including headlights, turn signals, brake lights, parking lights and reverse lights work perfectly. The car runs wonderfully especially after a recent tune up where the original plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil pickup wire and air filter were replaced with all new top shelf replacement parts followed by an oil/filter change as well. To top it all off and make the total tune up perfect the carb was sent off to a local well known Fiat/Weber specialist to address a small fuel leak in one of the diaphragms and the choke pivot arm which caused a high idle. After those issues were addressed it was cleaned and tuned up to make the car run at 100%. After 35 years the original exhaust had a few small holes in the muffler and I opted to replace it all as I wanted this car perfect so you will find the entire system was replaced with a dual tip Ansa exhaust which was sourced from an old, closed down Fiat dealer out of CT. This is a FULL Ansa cat back system including an original Ansa mid section which has not been available for many, many years not even for the more common 4 bolt flange systems found on the '80-'85. This was a model year specific unit as the '79 had a 3 bolt flange setup not to mention Ansa has no longer sold the mid section for many years. This is truly a one of a kind system that you will most likely never find or see again. The rear sections are still available from many of the Fiat parts vendors but again the mid section is not! I paid a pretty penny to secure this one of kind piece but in the end I think it was worth it to have a piece like this on such a nice car. Along with the Ansa full catback exhaust I opted to swap out the large/heavy and power robbing cat with a straight pipe for some added power and sound. She now has a beautiful sound but to keep the originality I have kept the stock cat which will go with the car for anyone wanting to swap back. The car was converted over from the original mechanical fuel pump which can be unreliable at times and is known to take a few cranks to get the carb Spiders' to fire up as it builds up the required pressure. With the addition of an electric fuel pump the car starts up on the first crank and actually starts up faster then my '82 fuel injected Spider. The car still rides on her original tires with matching spare in the trunk but I would recommend replacements in the future mainly due to the age. Again, this car is ORIGINAL, ORIGINAL, ORIGINAL! They are only like this once in a lifetime and can not be duplicated. The real value in this car is its originality and the fact she is ready to go. No need to refresh the paint, rust repair, no mechanical issues to work through or interior repairs/restorations which spiral out of control and in the end ALWAYS cost at least double if not triple the original budget. Rather then buy a "fixer upper" thinking you could save a few bucks which is never the case this car can be sitting in your garage and save you a lot of time and grief. How many people can say they have an original 36k mile Fiat Spider sitting in the garage now a days? Having owned many Spiders' over the years I know what to look out for and what true enthusiast look for, so in the photos I have taken that into consideration while documenting the cars condition and have been covered to make your bidding experience that much more easy. I've also acquired additional parts that will go with the car as well. A few parts that are specific only to the '79 model year and are hard to come across like the carb setup and all the vacuum hoses/switches associated with it, also the downpipe which has the 3 bolt flange verses the 4 bolt found on '80-'85. Being a one year only the downpipe it has not been reproduced like the others so I have a low mile spare in excellent condition that will also go with the car along with some other odds and ends that I've collected to ensure the car will always remain 100% original. I am open to anyone who would like to come in person to view the car or have it inspected at your expense at an independent shop of your choice. I could recommend the only Fiat specialist that I know of in the area called DiFatta Bros. of Baltimore, MD who have been servicing Fiat, Alfa, Ferrai, Lamborghini for over 40 years. I have done my best to document and describe the car with complete honesty and will answer any and all questions that I may have missed. Also, for those who want a video of the car running or driving I can try to arrange that or if you have an iPhone we could do a FaceTime session and video chat which would be even easier. I can and will work with you with shipping arrangements and can recommend a few that I've used with success over the years but YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE. If you want some ideas on how much shipping will cost check out uship.com. They are a auction shipping site that will send out the bid to anyone in their network and they will bid on the job competing with one another which gets you the best possible deal. Please feel free to contact or call me anytime to discuss the car. Since I'm sure I'll get asked I'm really not looking for any trades with maybe the exception of a very clean '70 Ford Torino GT with cash on top on my end obviously. I know it's a long shot but who knows... Also, you will notice the first photo shows a different set of wheels... As I mentioned I also own an '82 Turbo Spider and wanted to see how the wheels looked on the '79. If someone was interested I would be more then willing to work out a deal on the aftermarket 15" rims/tires. They make a HUGE difference over the stock 13" rims/tires. Lastly eBay only allows a maximum of 24 photos but I have well over 100 additional photos with much more detail and close ups so please feel free to email me or text me for a link. Thank you for taking the time to view my auction and happy bidding! I'll answer a few questions already asked... All the chrome is in excellent condition, absolutely no pitting and shines like new. The bumpers and all the rubber is also excellent. All the stainless trim and bright work is polished and shows incredibly well. Again, this is more evident in the additional photos. Take your time and go through them all. The top is also in very good condition with a clear window. I somehow forgot to take pics with it up but will update within the next day so in the gallery. The cars' body is very, very straight no noticeable dings or dents with the exception of one in the lower portion of the passenger side rocker. Not something noticeable standing but if you were laying down you can pick it out. I'll try and see if I can get it to come through in a photo and also see if my dent less repair guy can pop it out. It carries a clean and clear title with all the original manuals, pamphlets and further documentation over the years that follows it's mileage. Also take notice of all the hardware that still has the original Zinc coating which has usually faded away with cars that were subjected to the elements or not cared for. Please take the bidding on this car seriously and please ONLY bid if you have serious intentions of going through with the transaction if you are the fortunate person to win the auction. Please have your finances in order and be prepared to make the deposit in the alotted time followed by full payment within the week. Lastly, please take the time to ask any questions or concerns before bidding so that there is no confusion as to avoid any issues. Thank you so much and good luck! As I suspected eBay will not allow me to include the link so please feel free to text or email me.
