Vehicle Detail
I found this rare Sears Allstate at an estate auction this summer. The original owner had passed away and his family was liquidating his assets. He was a retired Erie, PA motorcycle policeman and had bought this bike new from Sears. According to his daughter, and the 1968 registration stickers, he only rode the bike for one year before locking it away in his shed for the next 46 years. After I purchased the bike, I gave it a basic cleaning which revealed the amazing condition this survivor is in. I put air in the tires and reattached the gas tank, which had been stored separately, filled it with the proper 25:1 fuel oil mix and attempted to start it- with no luck. There was no spark at the plug or the points. I cleaned the points and tried again- a beautiful spark! After putting everything back together the bike started easily with a few kicks and was idling beautifully. All of the accessories work- horn, lights, kill switch. I found that the clutch needed a minor adjustment and after doing so it shifts very well and is an absolute joy to ride. People seem to love it as many stopped what they were doing to smile and wave. The bike is 100% original down to the tires, Allstate spark plug, and the Puch rubber on the pegs. I did change out the gear oil, but it should be done again soon to make sure all old oil is out, also I'm sure the bike would benefit from a carb cleaning (as it does take a few kicks to start) and new rubber on the pegs, as they have detiorated. All the seals are good as it has not leaked a drop since I had it. I have a reproduction manual for the bike that I ordered from motorwestmotorcycles dot com. They are experts on all Sears bike and sell replacement parts. I will be including all of the original paperwork from Sears, including the deposit slip, receipt, and thank you for your purchase letter. The bike also comes with it's original tool kit, which has made working on the bike simple. That, and it's very basic, easy to work on design. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. The bike will be available for viewing if you wish to see it. I am selling the bike because my hobby is finding interesting items, cleaning and getting them working, and then finding them a new home where they'll be properly appreciated. On Sep-03-14 at 12:53:46 PDT, seller added the following information: I do not have the key for the steering lock. If you wanted to lock the steering perhaps a locksmith could make a key, or a new steering lock could be found.
