Vehicle Detail
14.00 This red/parchment (beige) 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450SL is a fun and mechanically sound leisure cruiser that turns heads in Miami, and is ready for an occasional long drive up the coast. There is also the exciting opportunity to complete valuable restoration of the last two owners that will increase this classic car's longevity and overall condition to good/very good (depending on rating guide used). The canvas top and interior are original parchment (light tan) color, and hardtop is original to the car. Included are original Owner's Manual and maintenance booklets (through 1995), all car top locking handles, vehicle tool kit, and Sony FM/AM CD player manual. The title is clear. There is no body collision. I planned to keep my dream car in our family, but sadly I must sell the car because I can no longer drive it after a fall injury. This classic car, named Scarlette, was originally delivered to Mercedes Benz, Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA (love the history). The car was owned, well-maintained, and driven an average 3,890 miles per year for 18 1/2 years in California. For most of the last 10 years, the car has been a Florida leisure cruiser (very low miles per year), garaged, well maintained, and professionally restored as needed. The car was driven in Western NC for 2-3 years prior to my ownership. I purchased the car 3 years ago from my neighbor (owner for 4 years, previous car dealership owner, could no longer drive the car) because Scarlette still had her classic car beauty, a no-collision safe body, powerful engine, and fun driving spirit. Scarlette drives very well in Miami local traffic and on long distance drives in South Florida. First, a 1999 Sony FM/AM Radio/CD Player sounds great with favorite music! Steering lock/unlock mechanism functions. The engine fires easily and runs smoothly (I love the sound), with no exhaust smoke. The original horse-power of this engine was 180HP SAE. 3-Speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly at all speeds! Tight steering and independent suspension turn easily and ride very well. Power breaks work very well and quietly. No leaks are visible. Very good condition Goodyear all season tires (the recommended P205/70R14) add to her smooth and safe drive. Recent service includes: 2/2014 oil/filter change, and 37 point inspection; 2012 new rear sway bar links for wear, and driver's floor vent lever adjusted for continuous hot air; 2011 new starter, alternator belt, power steering drive belt, air pump drive belt, radiator hose 1 and 2, shift lever bushings, cold start valve gasket and breather hose, passenger door actuator, and trunk lock. Odometer shows 83,806 miles and doesn't work (estimate only 110,000-120,000 original miles from maintenance records through 1995, last 10 years of reported miles, and statistics for remaining years). The body and hard top paint is original Signal Red with a smooth, brilliant shine. Hood and trunk were repainted for wear when I purchased the car, with a perfect match to existing repainted body and hard top. Not immediately visible are a tiny paint chip around the top bow lock plate (plate put on backwards), 2 tiny chips and a small paint blister above a tiny dent in the chrome trim of the passenger door, and 2 small paint blisters above and below the driver door trim. All original Mercedes emblems are in place. Grill is in very good condition. Shiny chrome trim is mostly original and in good condition. Stripes have tiny peeling. Sturdy, in-line, large safety bumpers (US federal regulation) wrap the front and back body. Metal is shiny and rubber is in good condition. Almost unnoticeable, three small dents in the top rubber and metal of the front left bumper. All exterior lights function and are bright, and covers are shiny and intact. Right 2 headlights appear to be original equipment (OE) Sylvanias. Left 2 headlights are upgraded halogen GE headlights, meeting OE specifications. Original hard top is in very good condition on exterior and interior. Appropriately, I only drove this car with canvas top down, but sometimes got stuck in an accidental South Florida rain shower. I always garaged the car with top up. The canvas top leaks slowly in rain, and two clear patches cover tears from wear over metal. Windows are clear. Canvas and hard top framework, locks, storage compartment cover, and lever work well. Front windshield is intact, and wipers function well. Doors are aligned and function properly outside and inside, except for master lock system. Driver window appears to be a newer Mercedes model of OE specifications. The passenger door window has a tiny chip at top front. Molding of door windows has mild wear front/back but seals well there. The top of each door window has good molding but leaks a tiny amount of water with both tops on. Windows probably need adjusting to hard top, then canvas frame adjusted to windows. Scarlette's interior maintains much her beautiful, classic look and function. Soft, comfortable, and supportive seats are restored with original horse hair (cleaned) and recovered with new foam and OE MBTex vinyl parchment color, in excellent condition (much more comfortable/breathable in sun and heat than original leather, removed for wear). Seat joint and knob plates are new. Beautiful, new German Loop factory carpet in original multi-color parchment(or beige/cream) is throughout the interior. Interior doors, console, window molding, and back lining/lever appear original, with age appropriate, top-down wear. Top passenger windshield molding has a hair-line partial crack. Original dashboard is intact; top is in very good condition and bottom has fair condition wear. Instrument cluster is easy to read, lights up well, and functions, except for odometer. Speedometer reads about 5 mph below actual (good excuse for police during fun cruising). All controls, knobs, and levers work and are easy to read. A lever cap is missing from the right passenger ventilation. Steering wheel appears original and is in fair condition. Cruise control and all combination switch electricals function except for washer fluid; switches are mostly readable. After I purchased the car and removed worn front carpets, the floor-boards were rusted through. They were professionally repaired by a rare craftsman, refinished, and the bottom chassis was resealed with original quality rubber seal. I have an updated evaluation and estimation from the same professional to finish my planned repair and refinishing of small rust patches on outer and lower doors and at right front engine compartment floor, rust of trunk floor, and reseal the bottom chassis.I want you to find your dream classic car, and I want to find the right new home for Scarlette. So I am happy to provide more pictures (have many) and answer any questions to help you make the right bid and purchase! Have fun bidding! Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
