This is a fantastic 1938 Chevrolet Master body to build into a street rod. I found this car in South Dakota and it spent its whole life prior to the owner moving from ND to SD in North Dakota. It has been in dry storage (not a barn) since 1955. The body for its age is virtually rust free and is just super solid thru out. This car has never been repainted and only has the primer and original brown top coat. I took a DA and sanded the trunk because they are normally rusty, all way down to bottom of quarter panel and the paint is so old and hard it comes off like butter. Found no rust with the DA. The normal rust areas are perfect, bottom edge of trunk, the front lower cowl area, rocker panels, bottom of doors, rear quarter area behind door, all great shape. There are two rusty areas that are easily fixed, there is an eight in square in the drivers floor area (leaky vent glass), (flat repair area) and in what I call the tool tray, the very back of the trunk area and is about 14 inches long and 3 inches wide, ( flat repair area). They sell the whole tail pan with this area included but the tail pan is pretty solid with the two holes for the bumper brackets needing just a touchup weld. There is a small collision area in the tail pan also, easily pulled out but if you replace the tail pan the dent will be gone. The fenders have never been repainted either and have no rot and only have a little surface rust underneath. I have built 4, 1938s and never seen fenders like this before, really really nice. There are the normal bumps and bruises a 75 year old car might have but nothing deep or severe. It is just a very solid car, besides the tail pan issues which are way better than normal, it could have been built just a few years ago. All the sheet metal is there including the running boards and they are NOT rusty. There is really no rust pitting anywhere on the car but the underside of the floor pans have surface rust, not rot (with the exception of 8” driver floor). The previous owner started to build it into a street rod and had the frame blasted prior to being forced to move from ND to SD due to the oil boom. In the move he lost his desire to complete the car. He had added a Mustang 2 front suspension from some kind of weld together kit and thou it is probably fine I was going to cut it off and go with a Heidts. Right now it has small block motor mounts and could be used as is but this work is not nearly nice as the rest of the car. He installed a Nova rear. The car rolls and can be easily loaded on a trailer. I live in Va Beach, Virginia and I stumbled on to him/car and since I am a 38 Chevy guy when I heard how nice it was I had to have it so my wife and I traveled to Hill City, SD to buy it. It is not possible to find anything in this condition that was originally from the east coast. A long way to go but finding a virtual rust free car was worth it. Now my age has increased and my energy has dwindled and I think some other young guy should make a premium street rod from a great body. I have a clear Virginia title in my name and the original VIN number is still on the cowl. I have many pictures, send me your regular email address and I will forward to you. This is a project car, can not be driven and it is a great body, parts and pieces but it will take an experienced builder to make it into a complete car.
