Vehicle Detail
My wife and I bought this car in the late 80's from the owner in Kalamazoo Mi. It was not in running condition and partially apart. The owner had bought several other cars for parts and pieces but still didn't have enough to finish it. We still have a lot of those parts which we will include. Hard to believe that in Michigan, in the late 80's, there where 2 yards in the area that had 1957 Oldsmobiles that supplied the engine, windshield, and a few other parts. That and a lot of searching catalogs for new parts put the car in excellent condition. Now this is a very nice older body on restoration from the early 1990's professionally done by me at the shop not at home. We owned an autobody shop. Body was completely disassembled and small amount of rust on lower fenders and doors was metal patched and undercoated. The body was 3 tone painted Black/White/with Red accents with wet sanded and buffed old style Dupont Centari paint that looks better than any basecoat clearcoat of today. The front suspension was rebuilt and power steering added. New brakes and wheel bearings and new BF Goodrich Silver Crown Radial 15" tires where installed. The interior was completely redone in cloth and vinyl with new carpet and headliner. Most of the chrome was redone or purchased new. We don't attend car shows all the time but when we do it is a real crowd pleaser. It is unique in the 1957 GM car line up with the long 1/4 panels and three glass rear window along with 371 cubic inch engine. We get a ton of thumbs up and a quite a few trophies that I give to the grand kids. We got another first in class in July. Even though we have had it for a long time and the restoration was done a long time ago it is still very nice. It was not used much, maybe 500 to 1000 miles per year and we still can drive it anywhere. I don't want to see it sitting in my garage any more. Someone needs to use it. On Aug-16-14 at 12:16:39 PDT, seller added the following information: Rebuilt engine has hardened valve seats so it burns pump gas. On Aug-17-14 at 17:26:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Looks like I need to explain what common problems along the bottoms means. There is minor rust on the bottoms of the fenders and doors. It was restored in the early 1990's and garaged. I attempted to show it in the photos but it is minor enough that it doesn't show. Nobody notices at any of the car shows so it doesn't need attention at this time. Even if it was repaired, the whole car wouldn't need to be done. Just the lowers. Nice as is.
