Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Beat bent and sunburned! However, not as bad as it sounds…or looks. The story goes, this has not been operated for over 10 years. The woman whom I bought it from said it was her mothers car and it is parked in front of her mothers old house. Now, a flame paint job looks like it may have been a teenagers car, but I was told mom dated a hot rod mechanic who made repairs and painted the car. The flames are rattle can over the original paint. Mom moved out of state and the daughter moved into the house. When mom came to visit the car was there for her use. Over the years mom visited less and less and then never so the car just sat all these years. So…it ran when parked but now will need a thorough going through. According to the daughter mom had the motor replaced at some point. Looks proper but I’m not up on my rotary engine models from Mazda so you may need to direct me to what to look for. 84578 miles seems correct for this model as they where never known to be high mileage cars The rust situation isn’t bad since we are living in a very dry environment. The worst rust is in the rear wheel arches and the rockers just behind the front wheels. The floors are dry and pristine as well as the strut/shock towers. Frame members look straight and solid. The rear trunk has minor surface rust at the rear from some rain getting past the seals but no holes or serious rot. The car was rear ended at one point and the rear bumper is smashed and the cam tail portion of the body will need some dents pulled. The previous owner simply slapped bondo in these areas and you can see the crack in the bondo in the picture. No evidence of bondo anywhere else on the car. The engine bay is perhaps the nicest portion of the car with no rodent damage to wires or obvious leaks or stains. Lots of spider webs. Missing the fuel door. Speaking of doors, underside of doors are solid - there is just one picture shown but all are similar. Front grill, nose, and headlights in great shape. Small ding on front bumper center - about 3 inches wide no creases. rear bumper will probably need replacing but front can be restored. The interior is intact but very brittle from the New Mexico sunshine and will need upholstery. The headliner is decent. The dash has cracks. It’s an automatic but these days many seem to be swapping out later model Rx engines with 5 speeds but that’s your deal. What is there may work perfectly fine. The glass is good all the way around the car. These cars don’t come up often and I just had to rescue it and get it into the right hands. I don’t think it would take much to get it road worthy. I believe cosmetics are going to be the bulk of the cost of restoration. It has a clear New Mexico title in the previous owners name and I am happy to assist in shipping any way I can. If it is going overseas I can assist but as soon as it becomes a burden then I will have to charge for my time. I have basically shipped cars domestically to various ports and let the exporters take it from there. It is sold as-is with zero promise that it will run but based on what I was told by a very nice woman I have no reason to doubt her story. I will post more pictures and provide additional detail shots on request. It was a tough decision to sell as-is or get running attracting more interest but I do believe this car is a runner with little work. Cosmetically, you will be pulling the rear dents, fixing the rear wheel arches, and patching the forward rockers. Interior will need going through. On Aug-07-14 at 14:25:52 PDT, seller added the following information: With regard to inquiries about trades - I'm looking for a cash sale, however being a vintage euro car and motorcycle person may consider partial or full trade for something interesting but no promises and must be cleared prior to bidding. On Aug-07-14 at 15:27:58 PDT, seller added the following information: ATTENTION: just talked to the mom who owned the car! Engine should be original to the car - it was the transmission that either was rebuilt or replaced. It all worked when parked. Original manual and a copy of a shop manual included! Was originally from Everett, Washington state up until 1985 when it came to New Mexico - a copy of that registration is included. On Aug-07-14 at 15:33:04 PDT, seller added the following information: Three of the tires won't hold air anymore. If you purchase this vehicle I can offer to go to Discount tire or you can buy tires of your choice and have them shipped here to make transporting easier (in order to make an easier rolling car) The spare tire looks new so the car might only need two tires for transport. I guess what I am offering is to have tires of your choice installed for transport at your expense. I might even be able to source used tires for less cost. On Aug-08-14 at 09:22:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Now that the weather is better I managed to get out and look at the car in more detail. I put a jack under it and inspected the underside carefully. The underside of the car and it's wheel wells are rust free. Very nice pans and frame that still have original silver paint on them. The rust is limited to the arches, some small areas just on the forward rockers only - the rest of the rockers are rust free. The car has dings and dents but nothing that can be skillfully pulled. The windshield does have a crack from a stone so please make note of that. I have taken more photos of the underside and trunk area and if you wish to see them just ask since I am limited to how many pictures I can post here.On Aug-08-14 at 09:38:21 PDT, seller added the following information:
