1969 CHEVROLET C-60 Series 8,600 Miles – 427 ENGINE - RETIRED FIRE TRUCK - ALL EQUIPMENT Seller’s note: EBAY CANCELED MY PREVIOUS OFFER TO SELL THIS TRUCK AT AUCTION BECAUSE THEIR COMPUTERS TOLD THEM THIS WAS “POLICE-RELATED” EQUIPMENT. Such is not the case, but there was no argument, even though 31 or more people had been following the auction! Seller bought this newly retired fire engine truck from the local municipality that purchased it new in 1969 – it had been in service until last summer when we bought it for our Old General Store display. It had been well maintained by the City. The truck is not available for fire emergencies - it is retired from service. Retired fire engines are often converted to mobile food service uses, water transfer units, machinery fleet service trucks, and one even to a party wagon with hot tub! The truck has 8,600 miles on the odometer – the engine would have a few more hours because it runs the pumps. Burns no oil, no defects, 2 best-grade brand new batteries cost $360 in May –2014. Manual transmission. John Bean body and equipment, including Hi-Pressure Fog. Has two excellent Hannay top mount hose reels with roll-over metal covers, (protects then from the sun) electric hose take-up motors, all excellent. Original pike pole on top. 800 gallon tank in good condition – the engine was kept inside. Has all hoses – high pressure rubber hoses with nozzles, high pressure cloth hoses with nozzles, two drafting hoses. Cab is excellent – no rips or tears, all good. Has battery trickle maintenance charger under seat. 2 spot lights on cab, four on body corners. Slatted wooden deck cover on top. Tires are in excellent condition, no leaks. Engine starts and runs fine. All the instructional and dealer paperwork goes with it, including the original municipal purchase invoices, etc. All compartments are just fine. All controls just fine. The truck has had no collisions and body is fine. Original 3-section ladder is “on the rack”. Truck is in drive-away condition. Truck is Illinois titled and Antique-Vehicle plated. No warranties are given nor implied – here it is, as-is – but it is an excellent vehicle in every way. Our Fire Chief came down to run me through all the pumping systems and functions -- unbelievable pressures and performances. The only problem we have had was with the batteries – turns out they were pretty old and would not hold charge – thus the new ones installed last month!
