I've said for years that I wouldn't ever sell my FJ but I have the opportunity to buy a nice rental property so I have to sell her and my 1990 Toyota truck. I found this FJ on eBay about 9 years ago and drove to Dalton Georgia to buy it. It was silver and had aftermarket rims on it. I trailered it back to Virginia and started to get it right. I found out that it was Freeborn Red (71999) from the factory so we had it painted back to the proper factory color. We painted the hard top red and white, wheels white, and left interior silver. The guy that I bought it from had ordered an aluminum body (tub) for about $4,000 and I was very please to see the install was a good one. When we painted it I took a bunch of parts over to my powder coater. At this time I ordered a carb from Toyota and had the tank cleaned and dipped. Its probably easier to mention what I haven't replaced rather than what I replaced. Here are a few things that we replaced, rear brake drums, front bumper, tires, wheels, Toyota caps, alternator, battery, carb, motor mounts, plugs, wires, fuel filter, shocks, starter, and tons of small items such as stainless steel hardware and probably $500 in misc nuts and bolts from Toyota. With all the new parts and tune it starts every single time. It needs a rebuild on the steering box and it wanders on the road and even though we have done a lot with the brakes you still have to pump it once before you apply the brakes. It also has a few oil leaks but its mainly the steering box. Lastly, when reversing up a hill reverse chatters at low rpms. Full disclosure! I don't drive it off road or in the snow and I don't think it has been out of the garage during rain in the last 10 years. I have perfect feedback on ebay and want to keep it that way so please look at the videos that I will give you links to and see the condition for yourself . Its not showroom ready but close!
