Vehicle Detail

1963 AMC Classic 770 Cross Country Rambler Station Wagon, NO RESERVE So you have kept up with your tetanus shots without a reason, or soccer parents in gadget laden space age looking automobiles are looking at you like you fit in and it makes you uneasy, or your car's maintenance is performed by a computer technician leaving your weekend schedule vulnerable to craft fairs, wine tasting...book clubs? Instead of in the garage soaking your latest wounds in gasoline and 50 year old grease with a cold beer in your hand and friends that aren't really allowed in the house. As I'm selling probably the coolest car on EBAY right now, I can help you. Let me tell you about it, it is a 1963 AMC Classic 770 Cross Country Rambler Station Wagon. It's an L6, so you get instant cool points and it has an auto trans. It starts, stops and works almost like it did in 1963. This car has been my daily driver for the last couple of years, so I'm very familiar with it. The title is clean clear and in my wife's name, it is also current on registration and insured. We are moving out of town, or we wouldn't be selling it! As I'd like you to have a very clear picture of the exact condition of the car, I will describe it to the best of my ability. If, after reading this you have a question, want to see photos of a specific area, want to coordinate a time to view it, please let me know. This car runs great, shifts great, and stops as well as a car with drum brakes can be expected to. It has been mechanically maintained (see below for details). The odometer reads 65,296, but I really have no way to confirm that it has not rolled over. The Odometer and speedometer work, as do the headlights, turn signals, wipers (well, as well as vacuum actuated wipes do at any rate, I suggest Rain-X) and most of the knobs and buttons. The temperature gauge is not working, and the fuel gauge, although it moves and reads that there is fuel, is hardly accurate. No big deal, just go to the gas station once a week and if you drive to far use the complimentary gas can included in the sale. Doors and windows all work as they are supposed to with the exception of the passenger side wind wing as it is missing the glass. All the locks: doors, tailgate, ignition work. I just replaced the tail gate lock and spring. I have not checked the glove box lock or the secret storage compartment in the cargo area. I would describe the paint as at least presentable, there are some rust areas that I have not done anything to correct as I think it looks cool, and I really like the patina on the interior paint. The upholstery is worn out, more so in the front than in the back. So, we recently added some army surplus wool-blend blankets (not itchy) and now the car has that new army blanket smell. Fantastic! The car has 3 seatbelts, two in the front and one in the center of the back bench. I added this one for my son's car seat, as like I said it has been my daily driver. The most significant rust damage on the car fell into three areas: The Tailgate which was just repaired, The front Floorpans, which I never repaired because in addition to liking the breeze on my leg it gives whoever happens to be driving the car a chance to ditch anything illicit should they be getting pulled over. Finally there is a rust through hole somewhere in the cowl section, which I noticed when it started pouring water in while driving in the rain. My plan, and the most simple way to fix this would be to use a block off plate for the vents. There are a few other rust spots (see photos) but nothing structural. All the trim is present. And the interior handles (removed because they have deteriorated) as well as the dash pad (same story; deteriorated) are also included. History I have the original sales receipt for this car. It was originally sold to Albert and Hannah Kehnast in Illinois on the 15th of November 1963. Mr. Kehnast traded in a 1959 Ford Falcon to Waverly Garage in East St Louis Illinois as a down payment for this car. We found it in DeMotte Indiana. Where the previous owner Claimed he had it shipped out from Oregon, (I don't have any documents to prove/disprove this) for hunting and claimed that his dogs never really liked the car, so he was selling it to buy a different one. He owned/operated a auto shop and completed the following work which I have no receipts for: Before I got it New Distributor Electric fuel pump Rebuilt carburetor Brake Master cylinder Cleaned out gas tank Exhaust from the manifold back Since having it we have repaired: Tailgate, removed rust and re welded to correct operation. Rear lock replaced and window handle mechanism repaired and greased. Re-Upholstery, new ARMY surplus blanket smell! Mechanical Repairs. Motor Mounts replaced Front Brakes Drums turned and shoes replaced Neutral Safety Switch replaced Shifter/throttle linkage adjusted Starter replaced Battery replaced (Still under warranty, receipt included) Battery Cables replaced Battery J Bolts replaced Maintenance items. Light Bulbs Oil Changes Just put in a new air filter Tune up parts: Cap, Rotor, Plugs, Points and wires Parts included in the sale that have not yet been installed: Generator to alternator conversion kit mechanical fuel pump radiator hoses Other parts the car comes with Arm rests Dash pad cap spare carburetor spare hubcapsIllinois License plate which appears to be the originaland some other stuff I'm probably forgetting. What it needs This question is subjective, and based on the photos and description it is a question that you will have to answer for yourself. I say nothing, my wife has a laundry list... which is how it turned into my daily driver even though she picked it out for herself. It is certainly not a show car or a trailer queen. It is an incredibly affordable, fun to drive classic car that incidentally gets more attention than any car I have ever owned. I have let it sit when I have been out of town and it starts right up upon return, and with the roof rack and trailer hitch makes bringing anything/anyone home possible. And fair warning; apparently AMC marketed this car as being able to fold into a bed, so as you are pumping gas you may hear more "I went to prom and became a woman stories" than you imagined that you would... Amusing or uncomfortable? I'll let you decide. Payment Is due within 7 days. Cash, cashier's check or money orders are my preference. However I will except Paypal if you are willing to cover the fees (Currently 2.9% + 0.30 for domestic transactions, international is 3.9% + a fixed fee). Terms The car will not be released until payment is received in full Shipping If required is the buyers responsibility. I encourage you to get quotes before bidding so that you are not disappointed. Refunds No refunds. Please ask questions, ask for photos, come see the car or have it inspected so that you are not disappointed. Ending Auction Early I'm trying to sell a car and have listed it for sale elsewhere. I will certainly entertain reasonable offers or end the auction early should an agreement be reached, so if you are interested don't be afraid to get in touch with me.
