Only 1,452 R-68s were built from 1952-54 making it the rarest of post war models. The V.I.N. is 651129 and it was one of the first of the 1954 models to be produced. The frame, engine, and data plate numbers all match. The bike was sent to Craig Vechorik of Bench Mark Works in Mississippi in 2005. He rebuilt the engine and performed a comprehensive restoration and it has been well maintained since. Though the odometer shows ~40k miles, there's less than 1000 miles since the rebuild. The auction includes a lot of original R68 and /2 parts (see last picture below)Includes original "Operating Instructions" booklet (English), "Handbook" (German) and "Spare Parts List" (German) Copper plated carbs are supposedly Schorsch Meier period aftermarket parts (though I've found no info to support that). Front fender and pillion seat are BMW Mobile Tradition reissue partsReproduction Albert headlight mirrors Reproduction Hella bar-end turn signalsEarly R-68 Swallowtail mufflers Period side-stand Please view the detailed photos below - they show the condition better than I can describe it here. The motorcycle is sold as is with no return accepted so please ask before you bid - I'm happy to answer any questions or post additional pictures. The bike is also available for inspection locally.
