In August 1947, this Oldsmobile’s original owner bought it in Cleveland, Ohio and drove it to Phoenix, Arizona three months later. This was not only the first car the owner ever owned, it was the only car he would ever own. During the 58 years he kept the car, it was always well maintained, oil changed at regular intervals, proper lubrication at all vital points, tune-ups using the best materials available, and for cosmetics, the wood was regularly sanded and re-varnished. Of course over the years nature started to take its toll on the original wood. Being somewhat of a craftsman, this original owner was able to find similar materials, matching not only the colors but also replicating the grain patterns. Only upon a close inspection of this car will you be able to spot several small repairs that have been applied to the car over the years. This car has been treated to a cosmetic and mechanical restoration shortly after it was acquired by the second owner at a cost of over $51,000. Today this sharp station wagon is finished in Havana Beige, a popular color at the time, with all three bench seats covered in durable dark brown Naugahyde with metal framing painted its original copper metallic finish. Looking at the interior ceiling you will see the wood slats forming the roof line covered by textured vinyl covering. The dashboard is fitted with an original AM radio, a clock and heater-defroster controls plus full instrumentation restored to its original clarity and brightness. Under the hood, the original engine retains its 6-volt electrical system and is detailed as it was when new, including its oil bath air cleaner, standing ready to take this wagon and a load of lucky passengers down the road. The front aftermarket turn signals have been removed since they were stick on with no current holes to the metal. Rather expensive when new due in part to the many hours of hand work involved with its construction, this is a rare opportunity to by a true piece of artwork that is sure to appreciate and be appreciated by all who see it. BiddingAs a bidder, if you do not intend to purchase the car, do not have financing in place, or you are simply playing around, DO NOT BID. Non-paying bidders greatly affect our profit margin, making it harder to effectively run our business and provide quality service. Please avoid bidding as a courtesy to others who intend to purchase the vehicleIf you are a meticulous buyer or inexperienced with classic automobiles, we recommend not buying a classic sight unseen. Spend the extra money to travel and see the vehicle, or invest $100 to have a 3rd party inspection done on the vehicle BEFORE you bid on the car. Call us ahead of time we will honestly tell you what we estimate the car will sell for on the auction and answer any questions you may have. With all do respect to all bidders, if you consider yourself a difficult buyer refrain from bidding on our vehicles and as we much rather sell a vehicle for less and have an enjoyable mutual transaction.Car qualityIt is one of the hardest jobs to convey the subjective condition of a classic vehicle through a computer. We see and inspect hundreds of potential collector cars each week and we try to convey our professional experience through our descriptions. We sell quality classics in different stages and conditions. We post numerous pictures and give a brief description of the vehicle. Please examine those closely before deciding to bid.We do our absolute best to describe our cars and to convey its condition to you our potential customers, but please understand classic vehicles are OLD vehicles and that they are SOLD AS-IS, WHERE-IS. It is true that our vehicles do sell for a good bargain and fantastic prices, but you are almost always going to pay for what you get. If a car sells for $5,000, you are buying a car within that range of price; in respect to value, collectability, and condition. In the unforeseen situation that there is a major description discrepancy (this is where the 3rd party inspection or a personal inspection is an essential tool), as a last resort a full refund, minus the cost of shipping, can be used to mutually resolve an honest possible misunderstanding. These situations are extremely rare, they are most certainly not intended and can easily be avoided.DepositWe require a $500 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit within 24 hours of winning the auction.
