Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am with the Y88 Special Edition. It has 77,800 original miles. It is all #'s matching 100% stock except for a custom stainless steel exhaust system from the heads back, AM/FM CD player with iPod, special high torque starter and custom speakers. The engine is all stock and has just been completely serviced and tuned up and runs great. The car has been documented by PHS which shows that it is a real Y88 Trans Am with the WS6 special performance package. The miles are documented by the previous owner who owned it for 16 years which I spoke to and also by the California title and also the condition of the car. The car has zero Rust and is one of the cleanest Trans Ams I have owned, and I have owned 12 Trans Ams Firebirds and Formulas. There is not even surface rust on the under side of this car, I have taken pictures to try to show that the subframes are clean and the floorpans are in excellent condition. This car from the factory did not come with undercoating and I left the car as I acquired it to show just how clean the underside of this car is. From the pictures, you can see how straight this car is the doors close correctly and the fenders lineup very nice, as far as GM 70s cars go. The trunk and rear quarter panels are straight and clean I believe the car has never been hit. The engine is all stock, retains all of its California smog equipment and even has the original carburetor. The only thing I see that might have been changed over the years is the chrome valve covers and the complete custom exhaust system which I mentioned earlier. I had the suspension checked out by my mechanic and he says that it is in excellent condition and the shocks have been recently replaced with Sense-A Track shocks. When I purchased this car I had the intention of making it into a Bandit Trans Am since it is black and gold but when I had PHS document it turns out that it is a real why Y88, 1 of 880 in this configuration I changed my mind and decided to sell it in order not to destroy a special Trans Am. When I spoke to the previous owner he told me that he purchased the car 16 years ago at a dealer auction with 50,000 miles and the car was black and gold. He told me he always kept it in the garage and replaced the weatherstripping, had the custom exhaust done, and serviced the rear differential completely with a new posi unit. The car restored will bring between $40,000 and $50,000 according to various car appraisers including Hagerty. The reason why I'm selling the car is because I want to build a Bandit Trans Am and it would be a shame to make this car a Bandit Trans Am since it is a Y88 special edition.Since I have owned it I have done the following:replace the grilles with Correct Y88 one($450)replace the Pontiac header Emblem with the correctY88(the one the car had was painted black, who knows why)Did full tune up which includes; AC Delco Spark Plugs, cap, rotor, ignition module, clean Carburetor, set timing(factory spec.)Had Heater Core replaced with full radiator flushreplaced the worn out Instrument Bezel with a correct Gold Y88 Bezel Check out the history on Y88 Trans Ams, they are worth a lot of money. Any questions or additional pics of the undercarriage just ask. Thanks for looking!JUST PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR THE RESERVE! SILLY QUESTIONS WILL BE TREATED AS SUCH!On Jun-23-14 at 06:11:37 PDT, seller added the following information: I AM GETTING ALOT OF EMAILS REGARDING THE TRANS AM, ESPECIALLY ABOUT THE PRICE. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO EMAIL ME TO ASK HOW MUCH TO END THE AUCTION EARLY I WILL NOT GIVE AN ANSWER CONSIDERING THE TREMENDOUS INTEREST IN THE CAR. I WILL HOWEVER LISTEN TO OFFERS. ALSO REGARDING THE CAR ITSELF, I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT EVERYTHING IN THE INTERIOR IS ORIGINAL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HEADLINER AND THE RADIO. I PURCHASED AN ORIGINAL RADIO THAT IS LIKE THE ONE THAT CAME WITH THE CAR THAT WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE SALE ALONG WITH BEIGE CARPET FLOOR MATS WITH THE FIREBIRD INSIGNIA STITCHED IN THAT ARE IN NICE CONDITION. LASTLY I WANTED TO MENTION THAT ALL GAUGES WORK INCLUDING THE CLOCK! THANKS AGAIN FOR LOOKING!On Jun-25-14 at 20:08:51 PDT, seller added the following information: ATTENTION EVERYONE! NOW THAT THE CAR HAS REACHED ITS RESERVE I WILL SWEETEN THE POT! IF THE PRICE GOES UP ANOTHER $500.00, I WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING;1) A BRAND NEW TAN STEERING WHEEL CORRECT FOR A Y882) NEW CORRECT SET OF GM RUBBER FLOOR MATS THAT THEY RECENTLY STARTED REPRODUCING3) CORRECT NOS BEIGE SIDE MOLDING THAT IS CORRECT FOR A Y88 THATS ABOUT $1000.00 IN PARTS FOR AN EXTRA $500.00!!!!!!!!!!
