Vehicle Detail

This 1976 911S coupe has been parked in a dry, heated garage for the last decade or so. Odometer shows 114,170 km. The engine appears to be a 2.2 liter from an earlier 911. The engine ran before going into storage, and the transmission worked but had an issue with 3rd gear. The car rolls, brakes and steers easily. The current paint is in rough condition and looks like a fairly poor quality respray, and it appears that the car was originally Guards Red. Some of the black plastic and rubber parts were painted over when the car was repainted, but most if not all of the parts are probably salvageable as the paint flakes off fairly easily (see photos). There is some surface rust visible at various locations on the body, but it does not look to have penetrated deeply at any of the areas and has certainly not rusted through (see photos). The brown marks seen on the front hood is not rust, it is just something that dripped on the car – it will wash off easily (the car is exactly as it was when it was pulled out of storage). I have not had the car up on a lift, but the underbody looks very solid. The car came from Arizona and was never driven in New York before it was stored, so that definitely helped the preservation of the metal. Also, 1976 was the first year that the 911 bodies were galvanized. The body is in pretty good shape overall but not perfect. There is one sizeable dent in the left rear quarter panel, the valence below the front bumper is dented, there are a few small holes drilled in the rear decklid where they had fastened the turbo rear spoiler, etc. The interior is mostly complete. The front seats are definitely from a 911 but I do not believe they are original. The car has a clean Arizona title. I found this car and bought it as a project but unfortunately I don’t have the time to work on it or the space to keep it since I already have two other BMW project cars. I hate to sell it but it should make an excellent project for someone, whether it is restored to original or done as a resto-mod / replica turbo, slantnose, RS, RSR, ST, etc. *This is a project car that is being sold completely as-is. I have tried to describe the vehicle as accurately as possible - please contact me before bidding with any further questions you may have. Buyers with zero feedback please contact me before bidding. On Jun-13-14 at 20:51:52 PDT, seller added the following information: Updates - I have noticed a couple other things worth mentioning about the condition of the car: - It looks like there was some body filler used along the metal strip that runs between the windshield and the front hood. I asked someone who knows a lot about 911's from this era and he said that this was a common rust area, so it may have been used there for that reason before the respray. - I closed the passenger side door after checking on something today and now it is stuck shut. It is probably an issue with the latch or the locking mechanism. It opened fine last week. - The body panel fits aren't perfect. The two most noticeable are the passenger door and the front hood. The passenger door has a gap along the bottom that can be seen in one of the photos. The front hood has a gap on one side that is slightly larger than the other. *Please note that the front hood was not completely closed/latched in the photos; that is not the gap I am referring to. I have verified that it does close completely and latch as requested by a bidder. (eBay won't let me add any more photos) Again, I am doing my best to disclose everything I can about the condition of the car without knowing much about it's history - please bid accordingly. Please feel free to contact me with any questions - I will reply promptly.
