Vehicle Detail

OVERVIEW: Welcome. Up for sale is my 1988 Jeep Comanche pickup truck. These trucks are becoming quite desirable and hard-to-find, so do not miss out on a solid, original example being offered at NO RESERVE! This Comanche is TWO/REAR WHEEL DRIVE, NOT FOUR. It is a "bare bones" model with power nothing from the factory, including no air conditioning. It was as base as they came except for having the optional engine, the super dependable 4.0 six cylinder. What a relief over the garbage 2.5 four cylinder, or even worse GM V6's, which many Comanche's were plagued with. Engine wise, the 4.0 is the only choice for power and reliability. It has the manual 5 speed transmission, which is rarer to find, and the manual transmission makes it more enjoyable to drive. It accelerates quite swiftly with this powertrain, yet is not a gas hog like most full size trucks. I got 22 mpg with the bed loaded on the highway. It has been on two long trips the past month (5 hour round trip and 7 hour round trip), and it was reliable and economical. It was a noisy and bumpy ride though; I thought I'd mention this in case you are not accustomed to the rugged nature of Jeeps. Please see my description below for a detailed description of all pros and cons of my Jeep truck...and remember, NO RESERVE, SO BID TO WIN! THANK YOU! ***PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE BIDDING OR ASKING QUESTIONS AS MY LISTING IS VERY THOROUGH ABOUT ALL STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF THE TRUCK, AS WELL AS PAYMENT TERMS ETC. AS MY FEEDBACK ATTESTS TO, I AM AN HONEST SELLER AND SEEK A FAIR, SMOOTH SALE FOR BOTH PARTIES*** ***PLEASE NOTE THAT I WASHED THE TRUCK BEFORE TAKING THE PHOTOS SO YOU MAY SEE WET AREAS; THIS IS NOT AREAS OF RUST OR LEAKS, BUT RATHER WATER--- SUCH AS THE PHOTOS OF THE UNDERSIDE WHERE THE UNDERCOAT IS WET FROM BEING SPRAYED OFF. IN ADDITION, THE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN THIS PAST WEEKEND, SO THE TRUCK PICTURED IS THE ONE YOU WILL BE BUYING. NO TOUCHED UP OR YEAR(S) OLD PHOTOS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST *** BODY & FRAME: The frame is nice and solid in all areas WITH NO RUST OR ROT ANYWHERE. I have bought cars on eBay before when the seller said the frame was solid and when I got there to pick it up, I could put my hand through the frame because of rot. This is absurd and unethical! I have examined the frame myself and I found NO ROT OR RUST THROUGH. It does have minor surface rust and peeling of the factory undercoating from age, but this is normal and to be expected- the truck is 25 years old! The body is equally nice and amazingly solid. This is quite hard to find on older Jeeps. You will see that the door bottoms, rocker panels, cab corners, bedsides and other areas usually rotted away are solid and rust free! The truck's body does not have any bondo thrown in it either. This is just a solid truck, plain and simple. The fact that it didn't see any salt or winters surely helped as well. The only area that needed minor rust repair when I bought the truck was the centers of the floorpans and this was due to leaky windshield seals. My father welded in patches for the floors. This was the only areas of rust on the whole truck. I would recommend resealing the windshield to prevent rust again the years to come. The truck has only had one repaint in its 25 year life, which was in a maroon color. They did a decent, driver quality job. You can see the original bright red color in the door jambs. The clear coat is in poor condition on the repaint, so this tells me that it was painted many years ago. DRIVETRAIN: ENGINE: 4.0 six cylinder. AMC's famously durable engine. They run forever, but all leak and use some oil between changes. This one is no exception. My family has owned many Cherokees, all with the 4.0. They all leaked oil, but all were traded in with between 150-250K and running strong, so this engine does last! This engine would benefit greatly from a tune up. It has never stalled or let me down, but it does run a little rough at idle and at rest at times. I was planning to do so, but have not yet found the time. Just a recommendation for the winning bidder. TRANSMISSION: 5 speed manual. All gears function fine. Fifth gear is a highway crusing gear and the truck will lag if you try driving around in fourth or fifth at low speeds. The first three gears are fairly aggressive. Therefore, it is a wide range setup. The clutch engages and works fine also, but will grab at times if you start out too fast or keep the pedal part way in. This is a work truck, not a race car, so it will hold up fine as long as you do not slip the clutch, rev it up and dump it etc. I baby the truck to preserve the clutch, but a clutch replacement is not a bad DIY job and is much cheaper than replacing an automatic transmission, so repairs down the road will be less with a manual transmission model. REAR AXLE: 3.08 open rear. Helps get great gas mileage, but is not real aggressive off the line. Having a manual transmission helps offset the highway gears though. I easily get over 20 mpg highway loaded on trips. INTERIOR: The interior is in quite nice condition for a 1988 truck. It is by no means perfect or showroom, but it presents very well and has not been abused. The dash is almost crack free, with only one small crack noticed. The seat is not all torn up, but does show minor wear from use. The original headliner is still up except for some minor sagging on the passenger's side. The carpet has some small tears and areas of soiling. The previous owner did install a set of cheapo, silly-looking speakers, but these could easily be switched to oem or nice aftermarket units. The radio system does function fine, but is nothing to brag about. Again, this truck came from the factory without air conditioning. The windows, seat, locks and mirror are all manual. Power nothing! It does mean that you have less to break though... OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS: I did install a plastic bedliner to make it easier to slide items in the bed. The bed floor is solid, as the rest of the truck is, but it has scratching from use as a truck by previous owners. The same goes for the tailgate. You can see that the previous owners did use the bed as a bed. The alloy "Jeep" wheels are in extremely nice condition and all have their centers. The white letter tires have about a bit more than half tread, so they have plenty of life left. The rear bumper was dented and pushed in on the driver's side by a previous owner. A previous owner also put some dents in the bedsides and tailgate, as you can see in the pictures. Again, the clearcoat on the paint is worn and chipped. The truck is a 1988 and does have dings, dents, and scratches. Although I am confident in the mechanical and structural soundness of this truck, due to the age and mileage of this truck, it is being sold as-is, where-is with no warranties or guarantees expressed or implied. You are welcome to come inspect the truck for yourself BEFORE bidding if you'd like. However, it does have a current PA inspection good until January of 2015. PA title in hand and ready to transfer to the new owner. The PA title is marked EXEMPT for mileage. It had this designation on the title when I bought the truck. Therefore, although I believe the mileage of 113K to be correct, WHICH THE VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT CONFIRMS, it is being sold as mileage exempt. The lack of overall wear, only one repaint, and the fact that the truck only had 83K in 2002 confirms the low mileage today of 113K as well, but the title is marked EXEMPT. YOU ARE BIDDING ON THE TRUCK PICTURED AND DESCRIBED- A 1988 JEEP COMANCHE PICKUP. THE OTHER VEHICLES IN THE BACKGROUND ARE NOT INCLUDED NOR FOR SALE. I AM ALSO SELLING MY ALL-ORIGINAL, RUST-FREE 1984 CAMARO Z28 WITH 87K ORIGINAL MILES AND MY VERY RARE EXPRESSO BROWN 1969 GTO SURVIVIOR WITH 169K ORIGINAL MILES, ORIGINAL WINDOW STICKER AND BUILDSHEET AS WELL, SO PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER LISTINGS AND/OR EMAIL ME FOR DETAILS. I AM NOT A DEALER. THESE CARS ARE MY PERSONAL VEHICLES THAT I HAVE COLLECTED OVER THE YEARS. I DEVOTE ALL MY SPARE TIME AND MONEY TO MY CLASSIC MUSCLE CARS. IT IS MY HOBBY AND PASSION. I don't think I forgot anything, but if did, please just let me know! If you'd like more pictures, need additional information, or have any questions, please just send me an email. I DO NOT have the car listed elsewhere/for sale locally, so I plan to let the auction run its course. PLEASE ONLY BID IF YOU HAVE THE CASH AND ARE GOING TO COMPLETE THE SALE IN A TIMELY MANNER (2-3 WEEKS OR LESS). I WILL SELL TO THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES/48 STATES ONLY- NO EXCEPTIONS. I WILL NOT SHIP THE TRUCK NOR MEET YOUR SHIPPER. I LIVE IN THE COUNTRY AND A TRACTOR TRAILER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE IT UP MY ROAD. YOU MUST COME WITH A FRIEND TO DRIVE THE TRUCK HOME OR WITH A TRUCK AND TRAILER OR ROLLBACK TO GET THE TRUCK. AS IT IS INSPECTED AND FULLY DRIVEABLE, I WOULD SUGGEST JUST BRINGING A FRIEND AND DRIVING IT HOME. I WILL ALSO ASSIST WITH LOADING IF YOU CHOOSE TO TRAILER IT HOME. IN ADDITION, I WILL BE ACCOMODATING IN HOLDING THE VEHICLE AT MY PROPERTY (WITHIN REASON AT MY DISCRETION) IF YOU NEED TIME TO MAKE NEEDED PICKUP ARRANGEMENTS. YOUR $500 DEPOSIT (MADE THROUGH PAYPAL ONLY) WILL HOLD THE TRUCK FOR UP TO TWO WEEKS. IF LONGER TIME IS NEEDED, YOU MUST MAKE ARRANGEMENTS WITH ME IN ADVANCE/EARLY ON. THE DEPOSIT IS NON-REFUNDABLE UNLESS WE BOTH AGREE THAT I MISSED MENTIONING A MAJOR FLAW WITH THE TRUCK THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF. THE DEPOSIT WILL NOT BE REFUNDED BECAUSE YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND, CANNOT COME UP WITH THE MONEY ETC. SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY. PAYMENT WILL BE CASH ONLY UPON TRANSFER OF TITLE- NO EXCEPTIONS (NO PERSONAL OR BANK CHECKS). A SMOOTH, HASSLE-FREE TRANSACTION SHOULD BE THE GOAL FOR BOTH PARTIES! THANK YOU AGAIN FOR LOOKING, AND BEST OF LUCK BIDDING! NO RESERVE!
