Vehicle Detail

The best of both worlds. British class, lays rubber in third gear. A very careful, documented conversion, no cutting or welding, no expense spared ($32,153). The original 4.2L engine and 4 sp transmission come with the car should you ever want to return to original. The original engine was completely rebuilt and run for 15k miles before storing it. The second owner (a cable CEO) purchased the car at 40k miles and converted it. I’m the third owner. 76,378 total California miles on the car. Repainted once with great care, body and chrome an 8.5-9.0 overall. Body has never been hit. Zero rust, hasn’t been driven on a wet road since I bought it. New interior. Modern Dunlop wheels; tires very good (no visible wear, some light checking). What’s wrong with the car: Wipers don’t work. Speedometer needle wavers, should be rebuilt. A small (1/2”) ding in the bonnet. A short (1/2”) tear in the top repaired from the inside -- top is otherwise excellent, with a clear and unscratched backlight. School tuitions force sale. An immaculate, reliable and immensely enjoyable car. Unbelievable acceleration. You will not be disappointed. Cash or bank wire only. No dealers, please. If you look at the pictures you'll see how they're carefully threaded around frame members and steering column. I've taken pictures of the shallow 1/2" bonnet ding and the 1/2" top repair with a key next to them, so you can see the scale. They are not noticeable. Also, I assumed the wipers didn't work because I've never driven it in the rain (in fact, only on dry roads) -- but when asked during a test drive, I flipped the rocker switch on, and hey, they work fine! (Should anyone decide to drive the car in the wet, the rubber inserts could use replacing.) The push-button Motorola radio looks original, but I have no way of knowing whether it was. Please note it doesn't work -- and I don't know whether/how it could be fixed. An automotive journalist came to see the car yesterday (5/30) and was quite clear with me that the car is everything I've said it is and more. I doubt he'd be willing to be a reference since he's in the bidding, so I'd encourage anyone who's serious to come see the car in person, or send a friend in the SF Bay Area to see it. On May-31-14 at 14:09:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Also, given the number of questions about the reserve price, it is $56,000. Typical V8 converted E-types have gone for $40-$48k. Given the excellent, rust-free condition of this car, the $35k custom-built racing engine and the fact that the original (matching numbers) engine and transmission come with the car, I feel a premium of $8-$16k is not unreasonable. But that's up to you!
