Vehicle Detail

This is a 1965 English Ford Mk I Cortina GT. Designed as a humble family saloon car the Cortina has a tremendous sporting history and is iconic in vintage touring car racing. It's easy to see why after driving one especially a GT like this one. It's quick and nimble and a real pleasure to drive. It's also a perfect candidate for track days or vintage racing. The body and chassis are in great condition. Very solid with just a few rust bubbles on the lower rockers (see picture showing the worst one). The car appears to have been re-painted sometime ago but still looks very nice. There are quite a few small chips and touch ups, mostly on the passenger side door (see photo). There is some evidence of slight body damage to the front right corner. The bonnet and right front wing don't match up quite right. Someone cut a hole presumably for a fuel filler neck in between the boot lid and rear window, they also notched the trunk slightly to clear the filler cap (see picture) It looks like this modification was never finished and the hole has a plastic cap covering it. Overall the car looks great and isn't so perfect you would be afraid to drive or race it. The crossflow engine runs very strong and this car features a header exhaust and two Weber 40mm DCOE carburetors. It has great oil pressure. The cooling system works perfect and it has good heat and defrost. The 4 speed gearbox shifts great through all gears without any problems. The clutch works well and the car is quite drivable but it is just starting to slip and will need to be replaced soon. The brakes work excellent. The handbrake currently is not connected. It has a center mounted handbrake handle. It's missing one of the rods that connects the rear brakes to the hand lever. the 12v negative earth electrics are in good order. It has a modern alternator for charging. Wipers, lights, indicators even the horn all work. All the instruments work. The steering is excellent and tight and the suspension is comfortable but sporty and firm. The Interior is in nice condition. The headliner is very nice. The carpets look a bit home done but are decent. The door panels and rear seat are original and nice. It's missing the passenger side door pull / arm rest. The front seats are from a MK II Cortina and fit very well and are very comfortable they are quite nice but have just a bit of wear showing. There are some Simpson racing seat belts with the car but not installed. It has original vintage Lotus Cortina wheels. These are the 5.5 J's that are very rare and desirable and a full inch wider than stock Cortina wheels. The tyres are usable but quite old and should be replaced. There is a spare wheel and tyre in the trunk. There are no bumpers installed on the car but this auction does include a front and rear bumper in fair condition (see picture). The aluminum Vin/data plate is missing from under the bonnet, I scraped through a few layers of paint to find the VIN is stamped on the top right strut tower and does match the title. Please note that I scraped the paint off after I made the video so the shot of the engine bay does not show this. There are a few spare parts in the trunk, some of the handbrake parts. Some seat parts. The Cortina GT badges are included but not installed. It does come with a clear California title. Overall this car is an excellent driver quality true classic. Although it has a few needs you will be able to jump in and drive it straight away. Buyer is responsible for shipping costs and arrangements. The Ford can be viewed by appointment in Granite Falls, WA (near Seattle). I highly recommend and encourage a personal inspection if possible. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Must be picked up within 30 days. Feel free to ask any questions. Please watch the video of this Cortina in action: On May-21-14 at 06:55:25 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer a few commonly asked questions: It does have the radius arms on the rear suspension that are particular to the GT, if you look carefully you can see them in the picture of the under side. The floors and frame rails are in very good solid condition with just some light surface rust. The title shows the VIN as 77E62031.
