Vehicle Detail

This is a really neat project for someone. Its a 1970 Cougar XR-7...its an H code 351 C 2V car..automatic trans, power steering and power disc brakes and factory AC. Has one cheap, thin, repaint over the original Medium Bright Blue paint and has blue leather interior. Overall its a very original car...some mechanical stuff was changed and the radio...that appears to be it. It has a definite low owner vibe to it...its a DSO 52 car..which means it was sold new in Los Angeles. Previous owner bought the car 20 years ago and spent a ton of money on it about 16 years ago...then it sat untouched after that. Engine was rebuilt..stock bore..so it had new rings and bearings. Heads are Aussie units bought from Jim Grubbs Motorsports to the tune of $1200...stainless valves in the heads. Has a Edelbrock Performer intake, small rv style Schneider cam and Holley 3310 carb. Also has a Ford Duraspark ignition, Hedman headers and a nice dual exhaust system. The suspension, power steering and radiator were all redone at the same time. Keep in mind all this new stuff was done 16 years ago..so take it with a grain of salt...you might have to redo some of it since its been sitting for so long. Body is in nice shape overall...only one cheap paintjob over the original paint. All the body panels appear to be from this car...its not a pieced together junker. Has a new windshield and a new Dennis Carpenter rear seal on the rear window. Dash pad (black) is also new...a quick internet search shows that they are about $900! Yikes. The previous owner was going to change the interior to black..so the dash pad is the only black piece so far..the rest is original blue stuff. Needs a headliner. The front and rear valance were also replaced back then..and I dont know if they had repro stuff back then or if its NOS stuff. Also has a new in the box vinyl top..have the mouldings too..also a new Auto Krafters Cougar trunk mat with underlayment and a NOS Ford turn signal switch. Some other stuff is in the trunk too. Instruments were rebuilt..the tach works! Overall interior is pretty nice for 45 years old but the seats are getting tired at the edges..top of the back seat is split from the sun. Carpet is original. Will need a little final body work on the passenger door and front fender.. Rust...has some spots in the door corners and behind the tires in the quarter panels. Look at the pictures...pretty much all the rust is visible except that it needs a driver side front floor pan...I think all this rust happened from it being stored outdoors for the last 16 years under a tarp. Besides the floor pan..the rust in the doors and quarter panels seems very localized..you can see original paint all over the place in the door jams, under the trunk lid..etc...trunk area is EXCELLENT. Still has the CA only smog stuff on the gas tank and the little board to protect the gas tank. The car runs..but runs poorly. Engine is quiet and supposed to be rebuilt like listed above but there is water in the oil. Car will run and drive for transportation purposes..so youre not dealing with a dead car..but it needs work. Trans shifts nice. Might be something stupid..like an incorrectly torqued head gasket or something. At first i thought it was condensation inside the motor from so many years..but it hasnt dissipated. Keep in mind that while it needs work..there are many new parts all around the car..so its not like trying to bring back a field car from the dead...but it will need work. It will be a quality piece when youre done with it. Headlights work..but the covers will open partially once the car isnt running so it might have a leak in the vacuum system somewhere. CAR IS FOR SALE LOCALLY TOO... The car is off the CA DMV computers...I have an application for duplicate title signed by the previous owner with a DMV vin number verification already done. If you are in CA that is all that you need to get it registered to you. If you are out of state and need a title..I can process the paperwork and get a title for $100. I didnt want to stand in line at the DMV if I didnt have to. The title will be processed if need be.. AFTER THE CAR IS PAID FOR IN FULL. The title normally takes about 10-14 days to receive so its really not a big deal. TERMS: Full payment is to be in my hands within 3 days of auction end. This auction is for serious people! Feel free to ask many questions and even come look at the car before the auction ends if you can..but once the auction is over...the high bidder will pay the bid price PERIOD. Your high bid doesnt give you the right to come over and inspect the car...you do that before the auction ends...if you do it after the auction ends..its a classified ad! Manner of payment is my choosing.
