Vehicle Detail
Up for Sale is my 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350H (Hertz Rent a Car) Replica. I have owned the car since 2001. I bought it as a driver with the black and gold Shelby paint scheme on it already. I have done a lot of work to it since. It started life in Indianapolis, IN as a 1965 Mustang "C" Code Fastback, Rangoon Red, C4 automatic, 289 2bbl car. Engine rebuilt in 2005 (less than 500 miles put on it since): Original 302 block that was bored .40 over and balanced.Estimated at 320HP.CompCam's Extreme Energy 268H hydraulic cam.CompCam's 1.6 Magnum rockers and hydraulic lifters.Powerheads 302 reworked 1968 heads with Hyperutectic pitons.Weiand Stealth aluminum intake.Edelbrock 600cfm carburetor.Mallory Unilite electronic distributor.Tri-y ceramic (inside and out) headers.Tall Cobra aluminum valve covers.Cobra T-Pan oil pan.100amp re-wired original looking alternator.4 core radiator.5 blade fan.Clutch was replaced.Powermaster Electric Starter.Headlight relays.4-speed wide ratio toploader (1967 model according to SN) - not rebuilt but linkage was replaced, it was painted and new Hurst shifter added.Starts up nicely and runs smooth with a nice lope (see video). Other upgrades:Carroll Shelby's signature on the glove box. It was there when I bought the car. The seller stated he sent it to Carroll along with a check for his charity and he signed it. That lines up with the way Carroll did some of his signatures so I assume it is true and real. It looks real.Shelby style seat belts2.5" dual exhaust (custom) with h-pipe, Flowmaster 40's and turn downs behind the rear valance.SSBC front disk brake kit added along with a dual master brake cylinder. 9" Ford rear end with 3.50 gears, Traction-Lock differential and new axles and drum brakes. Housing was powder coated black before installation.Shelby traction bars.TCP sub frame connectors (welded) with x-brace.Shelby monte carlo bar and export brace.5-leaf mid-eye rear springs.620lb front springs.1" Shelby drop.Koni shocks at all 4 corners.15x7 Magnum 500 wheels with almost new tires (less than 1000 miles on them).Front control arms replaced.I added a kit that makes the rear turn signals brighter but also sequential which is unique.New carpet was installed over "Dynomat" type material. The whole inside of the car floor was treated to a coat of POR-15 prior to installing the "Dynomat" material and new carpet and seats. No rust was found inside the car.I am including a replica of an original 1965-1966 Ford maintenance manual. I have referred to it a lot. It is a very helpful tool. The car sits relatively low and level compared to other Mustangs and Shelby's I've seen.Handles like a new car........but with a firm ride. What it needs:Paint is abut 15 years old now. Still shows very well but has a few chips in it. There's also a small bubble behind the back window, driver side and one small bubble on the driver side hood. Both are less than 1/8" in size. They have not gotten any bigger since I've had the car either. The Fresno area is a very dry climate which is good for cars and rust. I'd call it a 5 footer conservatively.Emergency brake does not work. It was not working when I got it. I have all of the parts to fix it and they will be included with the car.Passenger side driver door does not open with the push button on the handle. I took the door panel off and the rod system that activates it needs to be replaced. I have the rods and they will be included with the car.Reverse lights don't work. 1965 Mustangs didn't have reverse lights but the 66 models did. Someone replaced the rear valance and put the lights in and it looks like the wiring to connect are all there. I attempted to hook them up only to find that the switch needed on the reverse gear was missing. It is on there now but not connected. I never tried to re-hook them up. I am including a new setup of re-pro backup lights to the new owner just in case they're neededRear seat latch doesn't work. The handle broke off so I ordered a re-pro. Took the rear seat and side panel out to get to it. When I matched the old to the new the holes didn't line up. Drilled it out to match, put it back in, but the latch mechanism is too short to hold the eat in place when up. This will need to be fixed to be safe with passengers in the back. I never re-ordered the part for fear of it being wrong too.No rust found even when we had it up on a rack when we too the transmission out during the engine rebuild.Drivers side front panel was patched, not replaced, professionally before I got the car. No other rust was found when the carpet was out.Steering is a little loose. Probably could use a rebuild at some point. It was never an issue when driving. There are two small, less than 1/2" wear marks on the driver's side seat. THIS CAR IS a DRIVER, a nice driver, but a driver. Buy it and drive it. I have done my best to describe the car's pluses and minuses. I have had a lot of enjoyment with this car but it sits in the garage now and it needs to go to a new home where it will be driven and enjoyed. I want to iterate that most of the work on the car, some by me and some by other professionals, was done mostly between 2002 and 2007. I don't drive the car more than 10 miles a month if that much so the parts and work done still look and feel brand new. The car is garaged always with a car cover on it. It has never seen rain since I owned it. Check out the video and pictures for more detail. I tried to make it look and feel as much like a 1966 GT350H Shelby as I could. I love Shelbys but could never afford a real one. There is a reserve on the car that is reasonable. Should it not meet the reserve but get close, I'll contact the high bidder to see if we can work something out. The winner, if the reserve is met, will need to send via PayPal, $1,000 in non-refundable money within 48 hours of the close of the bid. No warranties are included or implied I will not be responsible for shipping the car. The winner will need to make their own arrangements for shipping, From experience, I recommend an enclosed trailer to protect the car. I will, however, drive it to a hub, if needed, for pickup if it is within 50 miles of Reedley, CA 93654. If you live locally (Fresno, CA area) and want to see the car, please call me at 559-679-9848 to make arrangements to see it. If you have less than 5 positive feedbacks or more than 2 negative feedbacks, please contact me before placing a bid. The car is for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time if the car sells. A short video of the car taken this week can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljomolvXGOg On May-10-14 at 07:41:07 PDT, seller added the following information: Added 3/10/14 - picture of the bottom of the car with sub frames (welded) and TCP x-Brace. Picture is about 8 years old but as I've said above the car has almost no miles on it since I bought it. Also, after showing the car to a prospective buyer yesterday I also remembered that I added new roller spring perches to the car. I can't post any more pictures or I would include other under car shots. If you want to see the, email me and I'll send them to you. I also remembered that the original cardboard heater box is in the car but not attached to the vent below the front windshield. I have both a replacement plastic vent box and the vent hoses to reattach the heater for the defrost. It works and blows out heat just not to the window. Here in this area, heat is not needed much so I never connected it up. The original, or what I assume is the original AM radio, is in the car, but all of the wires have been cut to it so it does not work. Most of the wiring is original or I assume original. I did add aftermarket autometer guages and moutned them under the dash below the radio for oil, coolant temp and voltage. All work. Oil pressure has always been right around 50-60 and temps, even on the hottest days here (+ 100 degrees) car stays below 200. It currenlty has full synthtic oil in it that was done around 6 months ago. It has almost a full tank of 91 octane gas. Some of the questions I have been asked revolve around the body. The car came to me with all body work done and painted. I don't know if all of the panels are original to the car or not. It is a 49 year old car and is a DRIVER, not concourse restoration. Car is straight, the paint is good for 15 years old and there are some chips that have been filled inas wellas tow bubbles I have already mentioned. I really can't say much more than that about the body. It shows well at local car shows and I even won at the Pismo Beach car show in my categoy in 2004. Pismo generally has 800-1000 cars at their annual car show. I hope that answers any pending questions you might have. If not, feel free to contact me. The car has met it's reserve as of this morning so it will sell. You can email me or call me at 559-679-9848 if you do have any more questions. On May-10-14 at 07:49:51 PDT, seller added the following information: ** I forgot to mention the new picture I added is prior to the engine rebuild so the painted transmission, new transmission bracket as well as the switch for the back-up lights is not in the picture. It was simply to show the sub frame connectors and x-brace. I apologize for any confusion. **
