Vehicle Detail

Extremely nice Honda CL 450 Scrambler. Out of my personal collection. The odometer reads 807 miles. It most likely has 1,500- 2,500 actual miles. When I purchased it, the speedo cable was pinched and inoperable. The previous owner estimated he drove fewer than 1,000 miles while he owned it. He never replaced the cable. I believe this as true. I have an old work order from 1999 that has 786 written as the mileage at that time. My experience of collecting bikes tells me the mileage is very low. Based on a few important obvious factors such as overall condition, originality throughout, wear on sprockets/chain, footpeg rubbers, twist grips, etc, etc. Also, the historical sequence as told to me. The original owner passed away shortly after purchase. His widow left the bike in her garage untouched until selling it to a coworker or church member in 1999. That person had it serviced, (hence the receipt) and quickly sold it for a quick buck to the person whom eventually sold it to me in 2006. Absolutely gorgeous, real head turner, and very desirable. From the dry Southwest states of NM and CO. No rust anywhere. Original seat. All chrome is clean and void of the typical "speckling that most older bikes seem to be plagued with. All systems work as new. Tires were replaced by previous owner in 2006, (DOT code also confirms), and the tread is nearly 100%. All cables are original and in good shape with the exception of the replaced speedo cable. New battery. The bike is original with the exception of the following; both tank badges are replaced with new old stock, (I have one original, both were warped as the typical early plastic badges would do), dyno cover is from a 1969-70 CL, don't know the reason. I had the fuel tank and side covers repainted. The shop matched the paint to the original protected underside color. The tank had a small scrape on the left side, not a dent, and the guy who paints for me insisted on a complete repaint rather than try and do an unacceptable partial fix. A few minor issues to point out; seat foam is original and is degraded and should be replaced unless you keep the bike as a static display, as I did. A few paint scuffs on the left cover headlight support, light scuffing on the right side aluminum cover near brake pedal, minor, a few nicks on the oil filter cover (near brake pedal). This cover is readily available on ebay and was an item I was going to eventually replace. I repainted an area on the center swing arm directly under the battery box. This was likely a result of a 30 year old battery. No corrosion or pitting, just paint missing and surface rust. Also affected the battery box and I painted it as well. Original tool bag and tools were unaffected. Lastly, the fuel tank was Kreme coated at some point. I would guess their was fuel left in the tank while being stored by the widow, and would require the tank to be sealed. I personally don't have much faith in that process and wouldn't expect it to last indefinitely. I would suggest having the tank professionally cleaned if your intent is to do much riding. Otherwise, no need. Original owners manual included and few misc receipts. This bike is a sound investment and worthy of any collection. Clean, original, high condition bikes are a real exception and seldom come around. I try to be thorough in my descriptions and submit detailed outdoor pictures to aid in the description, etc. Email with any questions, concerns or detailed photos..
