Vehicle Detail
This Corvette is not absolutely stock, although its not far from it. Normal maintenance parts aside, an Edelbrock carburetor and Pertronix Ignitor are the only non-Corvette items we've noted. The knock-off wheels are reproductions appropriate to the model year, and it still retains the factory shifter and full ignition shielding. If you're looking for a trailer queen NCRS Corvette, this car probably won't satisfy you. However, if you wish to enjoy the visceral, barely civilized motoring experience that only a mid-60's muscle car can provide, then stay tuned. An older restoration now relaxing into a comfortable patina, this Corvette lives to eat up the road! We don't know the complete history of the car, but "the proof is in the pudding"... The 327 engine has undoubtedly been rebuilt, as it runs strong and smooth with good oil pressure. This would be the 300-horse block with top dress from a 365 HP motor. There is no VIN on the engine pad, but the casting number and date code are correct for the car. I'm guessing the block was decked years ago, before anyone realized the VIN might be important to collectors. The clutch engages easily with no fuss, and the tranny is solid. Second gear synchro is a wee bit slow when cold, but it shifts through all the gears like a hot knife through butter once it warms up. The entire drivetrain performs as it should. The car is nicely optioned for comfortable cruising with power steering and power-assisted drum brakes. No struggling to throw it around the curves, and the brakes stop the car easily with no side pull. For really spirited driving, a good set of radial tires would tighten up the handling--these tires have the period-correct look, but they're not the best choice for wildly enthusiastic use. The body has held up quite well, with bonding strips intact. No discernible nose droop, just a little stress starting at the front hood corners. This is a lacquer repaint in the original color, now showing the typical paint crazing and a few chips. It still has miles-deep gloss, and it looks fabulous until you're right up on it. The interior is excellent except for the tired (original??) seat upholstery. There is abundant insulation under the carpet, so your feet don't fry. The older white soft top is clean and weatherproof, with slight cloudiness to the back window. (You'll probably keep it stowed anyway!) This was a 2-top Corvette, but the original hardtop is long gone. Headlight motors and lighting are operational. The original radio gives static and may need antenna ground. The odometer is stuck, actual mileage unknown. Some gauges don't work, although the most important ones do. This is pure Corvette essence--raw power and bare necessities. What more do you actually NEED?! The imperfections are more than offset by the car's undeniable integrity. Its never been significantly altered, hot-rodded, or crashed and pieced back together. Much time and money have been invested to ensure that this is a solid reliable machine. With any classic car that's actually driven there will always be room for improvement, but the patina gives you permission to "drive it like you mean it"! This is a no reserve auction, which means I lose my shirt and you gain a great car. THIS IS NOT A GAME--YOUR BID IS A LEGAL CONTRACT. If we have to relist this car, there WILL be a reserve next time. Please have the good sense to consult your spouse, banker, or whoever before bidding, and the common decency not to waste everyone's time. Bidders with fewer than 10 feedbacks must contact me first or your bids will be cancelled. $2000 Paypal deposit required within 48 hours of auction end, and balance due within a week. On Apr-29-14 at 08:37:52 PDT, seller added the following information: Folks--I'm getting questions about the wheels, so let me lay this out for all of you. These are 5-lug bolt-on wheels that mount just like a common steel wheel. The knock-off spinner is essentially a screw-on hubcap that hides the lug nuts. There are no hub adapters involved here! Its ingenious, really...These wheels are far safer than the true knock-offs, which had a reputation for unscheduled departures from the vehicle. If my description doesn't give you clarity, I'm sure you could find a photo of the component parts on the website of any major Corvette parts supplier. Thanks, everyone, for your interest and your bids...much appreciated!
