Vehicle Detail
1969 Pontiac Tempest Le Mans LeMans 2 Door Hardtop GTO Clone THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION. SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY!!!! I am the owner of this car. This awesome ride is REAL and sold by REAL people. PLEASE, come by and see her for yourself! The car is located in Saint Johns, AZ 85936. Call me at 602-402-8989 or 480-861-2375 with any questions or email me through the eBay system. I reserve the right to cancel bids from members with ZERO feedback or less unless you contact me first. After 4 years and hundreds of hours of work and much enjoyment I have decided to let her go. I bought the car in February of 2010 in Phoenix, AZ. I wanted a project to work on and this car was a running driving example so I jumped on it. The car was not purchased simply to flip for a profit, but to restore. She is a 1969 Pontiac Lemans. I have around $14,000 invested at this stage with receipts: I paid $3900 for the car; more than $4500 in parts; $5000 for professional labor at Jones Auto in Saint Johns, AZ and welding by Jake Richardson. At least 300 hours of my own time has also been invested. BIDDING IS STARTING LOW WITH NO RESERVE. I collected all receipts throughout the restoration process and they will go with the car. At this stage I have the satisfaction of knowing that this Pontiac will still be on the road many years from now and enjoyed by the next generation of drivers! That is why I did it! The car won “Favorite Project” in the Saint Johns Car Show May 19, 2012. Many pictures and a full cost breakdown of money spent to date can be seen at www.dropbox.com/sh/f65e4xaohi5fiay/8TeeJ960kE The car also has its own restoration webpage at: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3852605 where you can see 182 pictures detailing the restoration work since I got the car. The car is located in Saint Johns, Arizona. Saint Johns is a 4 hour drive from Phoenix and/or a 4 hour drive from Albuquerque, NM. Las Vegas is a 6-7 hour drive. Shipping/ pick-up of the car is the buyer’s responsibility. I will work with the shipper of buyer’s choosing to arrange pick-up of the car in downtown Saint Johns, AZ. This Pontiac Le Mans would make a perfect and easy GTO/ GTO Judge clone. It only needs the GTO hood, front bumper, grills, and a few other misc. parts. All Le Mans emblems were removed and holes closed. Only the large "Pontiac" emblems on the rear and on the grill remain. The taillights are correct for the GTO, not Le Mans. The rear spoiler is also correct for GTO/ Judge! All original Le Mans emblems are included in case the new owner wishes to restore it to the original Le Mans configuration! This car de-coded as I found it according to VIN, Data Plate, and other identifying marks: · 69 Pontiac Lemans 2 Door Hard Top · Mfd. in Arlington, TX · Black Interior · Original Exterior Color: Champagne · Built 2nd week of January, 1969 · Engine: Original-to-car XS Code '69 350 c.i. · Intake Manifold: From 1970 GTO 400 c.i. (replaced with Edelbrock all aluminum intake manifold but original is included) · Transmission: 400 Turbo-Hydramatic (Automatic) · Carburetor: 4 barrel Quadrajet (replaced with Edelbrock aluminum carburetor but original is included) Original a/c car (compressor is not currently installed but is included) The Great: The car runs, drives, handles, and stops very well and is currently registered. Mechanically she needs nothing and I have the receipts to prove it. This beauty is a reliable driver and is ready for your next road trip as she sits. No maintenance item or mechanical detail has been overlooked. The Pontiac has never failed to start whatever the temp or weather. The temperature gauge in the cab has always held steady and it has never overheated even in stop and go traffic in the Arizona sun. Windows and doors seal well and it does not leak even in a driving rain (I have driven this car in a monsoon deluge). I currently drive the car approximately once every 2 weeks and have over the course of her 4 year restoration. I have not raced this car or done burn-outs and have broken her in nice and gentle since the engine was totally rebuilt and lovingly gone through. I have driven the car approximately 1000 miles since the engine was rebuilt. There are no nasty surprises lurking for you to discover, as my mechanic (John of Jones Auto Saint Johns, AZ) and I have discovered and fixed them all for you. The car and I recently attended the 2014 “Chrome in the Dome” Car Show in Springervile AZ. It really likes to cruise at 70 mph and handles oh so well at all speeds. Lights (high and low beams), turn-signals, brake lights, horn, gauges, etc. all work great. The body is nice and straight. There is no rust on the car to speak of any more (see exterior heading below). The frame is solid and rust free, as is the floor, body, engine bay, and trunk. All good and solid metal! The engine idles well, is very responsive, and sounds amazing. The all new suspension front and rear cushions the ride well even on a bumpy road. Rear air suspension is adjustable and can be tailored to suit any preference. The car stops well with disc brakes on the front and drum on the rear. Steering is tight and effortless thanks to the totally rebuilt front end and power steering. In short the car runs and drives as well as it did back in 1969! Original seat belts are present and still functional! Clear Arizona Title. The Not-So-Great: The car needs a good paint job which is why I am starting the bidding so low! All exterior body surfaces were primed with dark grey sand-able automotive primer. Windshield wiper system needs going through and needs new wiper arms; Hazard switch not working; gas evaporates from carburetor in about 1-2 days so after sitting for 2 days onward it will take 3 tries to start the car since gas takes a bit to reach the carb (if driven every day this car starts first time every time); heat works and blows strong but knobs are stiff and need new cable and part of the under-dash plastic vent is missing so when heat is on it just blows out under dash into cab; no radio; trunk stop mechanism damaged/ missing so trunk will not stay open without being held open; odometer not turning; missing a few interior trim pieces for headliner at rear quarter windows and rear window (headliner itself is in fair-good condition and is original); rear speakers are hooked up but not installed they currently sit on the floor in the back seat; there is a hole in the front driver side wheel-well NOT due to rust, in the rear of the wheel well, not visible unless you look for it- easily patched if desired. Finally, the car could use a new exhaust system (everything except manifolds and tips) which will run the new owner around $500 (the quote I received includes labor and all parts). There is an exhaust system on the car now and it is functional and secure, but there are no mufflers and there are a few holes and its rather rusty especially near the front. The exhaust is the last thing that actually has some rust on it left on the car. The exhaust manifolds are good and the tips are fine and are probably from a Mustang and could be used in the new exhaust system. I purposely did not get the exhaust system done as I figured the new owner will want to put on something to his/ her liking. PLEASE STUDY PICTURES CAREFULLY AS THEY ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF MY DESCRIPTION. Most of the parts on the car are driver quality not show quality! Many of the parts not replaced nor mentioned in the auction have some flaws as the car is more than 40 years old. All window trim appears original and has some dings and scratches as one might expect. The bumpers are good used bumpers but they also have some scratches here and there and a gouge or 2 that goes deeper than the chrome. Mirrors show some age and wear but are perfectly useable. PLEASE NOTE THE BATMAN SYMBOL THAT APPEARS IN A FEW OF MY PICTURES IS JUST A MAGNET AND IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE AUCTION. I PUT IT ON THE CAR SOMETIMES BECAUSE IT LOOKS COOL!
