ABSOLUTE SALE! NO RESERVE!! 3 DAYS ONLY AUCTION! So....when I got the call on a found "R" model I was excited!!! But when I actually picked up son of Frankenstein I wasn't so optimistic. But then I thrashed on it for about 3 days to get it back toward it's glory days. Happy days are here again for this toy!! The car is an awesome "10 footer"...looks great from 10 feet away. It clearly had been sitting for quite some time and turned into someone's mild project car. The rear wing was in the trunk. It had steel wheels and junk tires (for the winter?). Amazingly the front AND rear bumper covers have been decently repainted. I know in 96-97 the front cover was R only with the exaggerated lower spoiler aka begs to get torn off and damaged. This cover is T5 spec for sure. I prefer it over the damage prone R anyway. Altho there are signs of coverups on the chips and scratches, they are all one color and make the car look great! Don't expect this car to be a show queen. Not even close. Not garage kept. Not a barn find (3 owner from my research). What it IS, is a nice one of a kind driver (from a reputable seller of Volvos) that you will enjoy being in every day. Below you can see the nice rims and nearly new tires fresh off of my personal 98 V70R!! The rims have a few cleanable stains on them but they look great on the car as you can see. Tires are all matching with nearly new tread saving you money! Not to mention the one of a kind updated look for this car. You can ONLY get these rims on an R model car and I've seen em on a few C70s. NEVER came on the 850R. Believe it or not, the car is covered in dust. It was very windy the day I snapped pics. Above is a shot of the hood. Altho is dent and ding free, it's lightly paint checked. Many many chips also. The roof, again, dent and ding free, is very dry. BOTH could use a professional wetsanding after a jar of touchup paint is applied. In fact I would touchup all the spots, wetsand and buff the car. It would look amazing then as there are many many light scratches and chip and stains that would easily come out. All signs of the car being parked outside unfortunately. Sunroof pops up and down but struggles to slide back. Will need some lubrication. All the glass looks good. Nice straight body lines. Only a handfull of dings to be seen. All fixable via dentbuster if desired. No major rust to be found on the car. Maybe in a few minor corners but nothing I can show on camera. Nothing on the surface. DO NOT show up here to buy being an "R" purist and pick the car apart. I am doing that for you. Show up because you can't wait to own a cool rare historical car for a FRACTION of it's original pricetag ($40k) and you will be a very happy person! Note the bumper cover is all one color even tho you can catch the angle right on the dimples and cuts. No holes at least. Wing is mounted and won't come off but I would suggest ordering the proper sticky pads kit to install it permanently. 3rd brake light lens is also gone leaving the interior warning light to pop on during a brake push. It is a factory Volvo wing at least. No damages or cracks. Power antenna motor works but mast needs to be replaced. $14 from your local dealership. Proper 850R badging is intact which is a good thing. Note the lens corner chip. Still looks and functions properly. Also the trunk key works, but has a little damages around the tumbler as if someone were trying to pop it out. Again, I am nitpicking!! Who does that on eBay, besides me ;-) Biggest eyesores on the car are these 2 dents. The 3rd is a fixable ding by the gas door. The final is the next pic showing the edge of the fender lip. The interior is 100% correct for the R model only options. Half normal leather and half nubuck/suede. Including the lower steering wheel cover, door panel inserts, leather wrapped shifter stalk, center console armrest and headrests. ALL in great condition with the exception of some upper steering wheel wear and a nickel sized hole in the driver's bolster. From what I can tell ALL power items work as they should: heated power seats, sunroof (cept slideback), windows, ICE COLD AIR CONDITIONING (blows super cold, but will need minor recharge as pump cycles), transmission modes, info panel, dual climate control, cruise, AM/FM/Tape/CD Changer, etc. The power mirrors do not work but usually is the joysticks. I hate smoke and I don't see or smell any signs of a former smoker. Sorry no floormats or books and only one key. Also note the R only darker woodgrain option. NICE! Here are the pics to show that there are NO dummy lights on during run and ALL come on during startup as they should. The Odometer is showing 94k. Some jackass at the emissions place or an auction logged in the car as having 194k on the Carfax. The Carfax shows blanks since a "99,000" entry at an...you guessed it...an Emissions Facility. These clowns are known for glancing and entering approx numbers even after being told EXACT. How do I know? Because I've argued with them before on my personal vehicles. Being a 21 year old car, the miles are exempt. The title doesn't show mileage. My eyes and experience (I've been selling cars on eBay for over a decade and have sold HUNDREDS of Volvos alone, rehabbing and selling myself only) tell me the exterior could be that age. The interior and mechanicals?? No way its old as 194k. It was traded in at a BMW/Mini dealership. These odometers are also notorious for failing due to a tiny plastic gear breaking. I'd have to think it was repaired at some point since this one works perfectly. All I can think of is due to its age, someone along the line assumed it had to be 194k. It is what it is. Bid accordingly. Altho the seats look great there still is a small amount of detailing to be done on a few marks and stains for removal. Note the suede centers on the rear seating. Below the trunk is clean and moisture free. I installed a spare but it doesn't have the jack setup. If I can find one in my stash, it's yours. Note the factory CD Changer. I found a cartridge in my parts bin so it comes complete. Note the "850" badging on the Stainless door sill trim. This is R only as well. Below you can see the typical age related plastic crack and trim curl on the dash airbag. Engine compartment looks great. Clean but no too clean. Upper motor mount is the Poly Eurethane type. Spark plugs are NGK replacements properly cleaned, gapped and reinstalled by yours truly. Spark plugs wires aren't old or dry. Timing belt tag below shows replacement at 50k (which was a bit premature). I've inspected it and it looks EXACTLY 40-50k old. Do the math....if it were 194k that makes the belt 144k old which is nearly impossible because it would have broke. Not to mention be so badly cracked and stretched. Signs point to the ODO being correct. Note the overflow tank: sticker is worn but the tank is clear and stain free. Clean coolant even. A 194k tank would be tan and crusty or replaced with new which would have a new sticker on it. There's my 2 cents. No signs of any major oil or coolant leaks. No spots on my shop floor overnight. No overheating. Trans fluid is red and clean. Shifts properly in all gears and modes. NEW AC Delco battery fires the engine right up and runs smooth. Turbo pulls strong and smooth. Oil is clean. Suspension is noise free with no squeaks or rattles or pops altho the steering is a bit stiff, probably from sitting. Power steering fluid is clean and no signs of rack leakage or binding. Brakes are firm and noise free with no unusual pulsing. Rims and tires are noise and vibration free. Exhaust is a little puffy in the rear but not loud by any means. If you want to finish restoring this car, knock yourself out! Otherwise buy it and drive it! I have logged over 100 miles on the car and I love it. You can't even tell you are in a 95 model as tight as this car feels. Inspect my excellent feedbacks. Title in hand. BID, BUY, and DRIVE ANYWHERE with 100% CONFIDENCE!! ABSOLUTE SALE!
