Vehicle Detail

1965 Mustang GT Convertible Factory built GT Mustang equipped as follows: 289 4V, 225HP V8. 4 Speed toploader Manual transmission, 3.00 open rear. Manual Steering, Front Disc brakes, power top & fog lights. I purchased the car 7+ years ago for a family member. The paint and body was as is now and we simply freshened the mechanicals and inside cosmetics. I did go through the car back then to make it reliable and comfortable while we planned the body restoration, but now family member decided to sell & move on. I have my own projects & don't have time or money this year to keep it for myself. Driver quality car needing paint & body work to be show quality. Solid floorpans, rocker panels & frame rails. Rear 1/4 panels were repaired with full patch panels but fit is not perfect and will require adjustment or replacement to be perfect. Solid doors, front fenders, hood, trunk lid and trunk filler. Paint is Wimbledon white and ok from 50 feet but has many chips & blemishes up close. No door tag but I did find some of the original paint by top well when we replaced the top. (originally highland green with black standard interior) Interior front seats were re-covered with black pony upholstery, dash bezels and door panels replaced along with carpet & convertible top. Rear seat was reupholstered but has some cat scratches in spots (wanted to hang that cat), but still looks presentable. From all the evidence I have, this car is a factory GT. The A is in the vin, has proper disc brakes and larger master cylinder, fog lights are wired through the factory wire harness with proper function, proper hccax steering box, dual exhaust hanger supports are evident and although I preferred them, I personally removed the original GT type non wood grain 5 dial dash cluster and glove box door (black camera case type original that is not a repo). At the time, the standard interior GT glove box door and cluster was not reproduced and the ones I have are original ford pieces with vintage patinas. It does not nor ever did have a body buck tag with a PIO so unless you have proper paperwork which we don't, one has to make an educated guess based on the evidence. There is no evidence to me of tampering with the wire harness to butcher it as a fake GT and there are too many GT options here that would not be on a Non-GT A code mustang. I will let you decide... Car was involved in a left front collision years before I owned it & there is evidence in the wrinkled left front apron. It was straightened and retained by the previous owner probably due to vin numbers. They did replace the front core support so you will not find the tell tale GT Fog Light holes, the only other corroborating GT detail. I myself installed many new parts & performed repairs including: New black top, BF Goodrich tires(215x60x15 front & 235x60x15 rear), 15x7 styled steel wheels, 2 1/4 Dual exhaust with Hedman headers & Thrush turbo mufflers, Edelbrock 600 cfm carburetor with electric choke, pertronix ignitioin, high output alternator, 3 core radiator, battery, reupholstered front seats, Grant steering wheel, kick panel speakers, carpet, dash bezels etc. Engine was rebuilt some years ago, is clean inside with good oil pressure and displays no evidence of smoke. Has an occasional random very light lifter tap 1-2x then goes away. I think this is due to sitting and not given regular since it never made any noise before it sat. Toploader transmission shifts well through all the gears with a new hurst shifter. Clutch is stock type and holds strong. We have not driven the car with regularity for the past 2 years. It was warmed up and driven 1-2 miles every month to help keep functional. That said, the fuel gauge stopped working & I did notice some gear noise when recently driven down the block. Will probably need rebuilt 3rd member but could simply need pinion seal & oil as this winter, it leaked from the yolk seal. I checked the brakes a few years ago with good life left and normal operation. I did add brake fluid this year and noticed right rear may have leaked a bit over time, but so far holding fine during my quick cruises. Suspension was not touched but car tracked straight with no noise or pulling. Consider giving brakes and suspension a look through as it has been 2 years since its last NYS inspection. If it does not sell, I will perform routine service and inspection & have the car re-registered & inspected to work out the cobwebs. I will publish more pictures as I get some & will email any you any photos you desire. Call with questions as I want you to be happy with your purchase. Shipping will be the buyers responsibility. NYS is a non title state for classic cars and uses registration as ownership (no title for pre 72 cars). Car is registered in family members name ready for x-fer. I will assist with shipping company upon their arrival. No warrantee or guarantee expressed or implied. Sold AS-IS condition. Mike 631-921-3433
