Vehicle Detail
For sale is my 1993 BMW 740iL. Note that this is the 740iL, the "L" standing for long wheelbase. The backseat space in this car is huge. I'm 6'4" and I have ample room in the rear seat even with the front seats adjusted as far back as possible. This is the best BMW could do in 1993. Even though the car is 20 years old, the car is packed with features that are just now becoming standard (power everything, traction control/antilock brakes, helpful computer things like MPG and range estimation, aluminum engine block, etc). The star of the show is the award-winning 4-liter all-aluminum V8. This thing can move. It runs great with a deep 8-cylinder sound- quiet and refined, with just enough note to let you know it means business. An economist would say the fundamentals are sound: as stated, the engine runs and idles with no issues. The transmission was rebuilt in 2007 by AAMCO along with the driveshaft center bearing. The water pump and serpentine belt were replaced in November 2011- no coolant leakage since then. The mass airflow sensor and engine control module were replaced in spring 2008. If driven with a gentle foot, the car will get you 25MPG on the highway. The stereo is not original- my brother borrowed the car one time and blew out two of the factory speakers unfortunately, so I used the opportunity to modernize in February 2008. The car now has a Sony head unit with CD/MP3 powering four MTX 5.25 inch speakers. However, this specimen isn't perfect, and there is some work to do to get it there. Known issues include:-Crack across the lower third of the windshield-Rust around the rear wheel arches-A bit of play in the steering-Some small issues with trim pieces (all are present but may need some work)-A small chip out of the rear-left turn signal lens-Interior is in good condition except for a few small stains in the backseat area from transporting a bicycle I purchased the car in Maine in July 2006, then went to college in Iowa. I moved back here to Maine a year ago and got a different car. This car has sat mostly disused for about a year, with occasional drives to keep things moving. The car did pass the Maine state inspection in 2006 but has not been inspected since- it is currently unregistered. This is a great opportunity for someone with a bit of mechanical skill to get a low-cost entry into German luxury. Or for the opportunists out there- there are tons of great parts here to pull off and sell.
