For sale is my used 1977 BMW R100RS with 127,000 miles. Serial number is 6180076, which means it was the 76th RS brought into the country in 1977. Manufacture date is 9/'76. I bought this bike in 1978 from a private seller who put 7,000 miles on it before selling it to me. 18 years ago I parked it when our first born came along, and there it sat in my dry garage until two years ago when I decided to rebuild it back to the condition it is in now. It was running when I parked it. There was no damage done to it while parked, but because of the mileage on the bike I decided to do extensive work on it. It is not a pristine show bike. I rebuilt it to ride , not show it. The following are some of the new parts installed: Air filter, right side mirror w/ foot base, clutch switch wire, 2 fork seals, fork oil, fork felts, fork gaskets and rings, right side combination thumb switch, windshield w/ edging, speedo cable, tach cable, 2 Bing carb rebuild kits, carb floats, 1 throttle slide assembly, 2 slide nozzle needles, 2 carb butterfly shafts w/ gaskets and screws, 2 float needles, all fuel lines, 2 inline fuel filters, 2 front brake pads, stainless steel front brake lines covered in black to look original, rebuilt both front brake calipers, steering head bearings and races, piston rings, 4 piston pin snap rings, 4 cylinder stud O rings, 2 head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, 4 pushrod seals, 2 intake valves, 2 exhaust valves, 2 exhaust valve seats for unleaded fuel, 4 valve guides, 4 valve springs, 4 rubber intake manifold sleeves, oil pan gasket, 1 muffler clamp, top battery bracket, 3 rubber battery mounts, Conti Twins, front and rear, 2 tubes, starter and solenoid rebuilt by Motoradd Elektric, solid metal diode board mounts, diode board w/ 3 wire harness, 2 blue Bosch coils, 2 spark plug wires and plugs, timing chain, tensioner, spring and cover gasket, crankcase seal, camshaft seal, crankshaft bearing, double sprocket for timing chain, rotor bolt, 2 aftermarket exhaust pipes, points, condenser, 4, 13mm driveshaft bolts, clutch throw out bearing, clutch rod piston w/ seals, 2 throttle cables, clutch cable, 2 complete petcock rebuilds, starter relay, VDO aftermarket clock and voltmeter, complete paint job using all BMW specific products from Holt BMW, pistons, cylinders and heads bead blasted, cylinders just slightly honed, wheel and swing arm bearings greased, clutch spline lubed. Between parts and engine work, I spent $3500. I did the paint job, so it's not professional, you judge for yourself. The bike runs very well as is. It does need some fine adjusting I believe on the carbs and timing to get it to run as good as it's capable. I am not qualified for the fine tuning. This bike has only been down once, 29 years ago, a very slow speed tip over and short slide, resulting only in minor scratches to a valve cover. Dual seat has two very small holes at rear edge. Cosmetically, the bodywork is great, the frame shows some rub throughs from boots etc. No real rust anywhere. This bike has never been stored outdoors. THE SIDECASES & SIDECASE RACKS, THE SOLO SEAT PICTURED, AND THE TANK BAG ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE BIKE PRICE. THEY ARE SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS SO YOU KNOW THEY ARE AVAILABLE, BUT AT AN ADDITIONAL COST. I WILL SELL THEM SEPERATELY IF THE BUYER OF THE BIKE DOES NOT WANT THEM. AGAIN, THE SIDECASES & SIDECASE RACKS, SOLO SEAT, AND TANK BAG ARE AVAILABLE AT AN ADDITIONAL COST, ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT THE BIKE SELLS FOR. March 1, 2014 update. I have just paid Motor Werks BMW in Barrington, IL $457 to go over the bike for a final fine tuning. I have yet to pick it up from them, but they have told me the bike runs strong, just as it should.
