Vehicle Detail

I am shedding some of my projects that I know I will not get to anytime soon and this is one of those...but man I hate to let it go. Although very common overseas you don't see many of these in the U.S. - this is a 1951 DKW RT 200 (Auto-Union, which is now Audi). A really cool bike that was pulled out of a barn in North Carolina. Story being it was brought back to the U.S. by a service member stationed in Germany. A true barn-find bike! Look at the details in the photos and you can see how intact it is - a total time capsule! I have not attempted to start this bike or do anything with it other than purchase it and put it in a dry building. It looks exactly as it did when I got it. It DOES have compression, so this would be a great project for a classic enthusiast or a nice father/son project. Remember, this is a 1951 motorcycle and it will require a complete rebuild to do it justice. But it looks like it is all there, although some of the "all there" will definitely need replacement. Sorry, there is NO TITLE for this bike. I put "rebuild" in the title field because something was required there. Parts are scarce in the U.S., but you can find some stuff. However, if you go to eBay Germany (where these bikes are common) you will find tons of parts and sellers who are typically very willing to ship to the US. Most of the parts I get for my bikes come from Europe and even with shipping are typically cheaper than buying domestically. As you can see in the picture, the tank toolkit compartment is very rusty. But you can find 10-20 different tanks on eBay Germany at any given time in various price ranges and conditions (with the compartment lid intact). It will be a fun bike to put back together! A little history - the 125CC version of this bike was much used in pre-war/WWII Germany. As part of Germany's war reparations to Allied countries, they had to give up the specs to their wonderful little 125. So a lot of lightweight motorcycles that you see out there are based directly on the earlier 125CC version of this bike (including the Harley Hummer and the BSA Bantam). They were rock solid little bikes known for their reliability. I have set what I consider a reasonable reserve for this bike based on the condition but taking into account the rarity. I will accept cash at pickup or a cashier's check before hand and the bike won't leave until paid for in full based on the final auction price. Don't show up and try and "negotiate" the price after winning it in auction. Thanks for bidding and I will answer any questions I can about the motorcycle. I have a couple more bikes I will be auctioning this week so be sure and check back!
